I remember when that Route 80 exit was added and flooded the area with traffic . Glover Ave was never the same.

Up until a few years ago, I did not know West Paterson changed its name to Woodland Park. The name Woodland Park would come up now and then in my readings and I assumed it was in South Jersey. In fact it was from browsing real estate listings when I became aware of the name. So I thought it was in Bergen County.
Finally one day I did a google search on Woodland Park and was surprised it really was West Paterson. I was disappointed by that because it made me recall when East Paterson changed their name to Elmwood Park. At that time the justification was based upon trying to make themselves distinct from Paterson. I always felt it was due to Paterson's demographics. I can't help but feel West Paterson changed their name for the same reason. I lived in Paterson at one time, had family in Paterson etc. and felt offended.
Another instance of a town with a movement to change its name was West Long Branch, NJ where I lived for many years. This is back in the late 60's before I moved there. They wanted to call it Shadow Lawn. To me that sounded like a cemetery. Again I believed the motivation was due to Long Branch's demographics. Cooler heads prevailed and they maintained the name.
As for me, West Paterson will always be West Paterson and East Paterson, East Paterson. A rose by any other name still smells the same.
