Well, since you mentioned the costumes a gadzillion times: Fun Fact, Angie made the sailor costume herself and once in a blue moon she revives it for their perfomances of Mindset!
They had color codes til 2019, when they changed their lineup from 4 musicians + 1 or 2 perfomers to 6 musicians. But don't get me wrong, they are still colorful. Check out their MV for Kachi kachi yama to get your treat LOL
If you like crazy, the check out their costumes from their 2018 live tour, Oreo (keys) even dressed as a hamburger for a year back then :D
Regarding her pink hair color, Angie is getting asked a lot about her following this trend, but she's actually done it since 2018 when she joined the band.
Love me some Myavi btw, always have ;) Wouldn't liken them to each other though, cause except the funkyness they are too different imho
    Cheers !!

Great reaction! The members of the band are indeed colourcoded. Koga (yellow), Hana (blue), Tomozo (pink), Oreo (purple). It was very clear in the second period, although not so much today. The lineup changes of the band are confusing, it happened because of unfortunate events they had to deal with. Basically, the history of the band can be divided into three periods:
2009-2012 Koga (bass), Hana (drums), Tomozo (guitar), Armmy (vocals)
2013-2018 Koga (bass), Hana (drums, vocals), Tomozo (guitar), Oreo (keyboard, vocals), Mai (performer), Arisa (performer), Nenne (performer)
2019-2024 Koga (bass), Hana (guitar, vocals), Tomozo (guitar), Oreo (keyboards, vocals), Yuri (drums), Angie (vocals)
Gacharic Spin is a band of many styles: pop, rock, metal, jazz, funk, disco, electro, punk, prog, soul - - - . The essence of their music is not the style but the energy: always intensive, very dynamic, sometimes chaotic, and super groovy. Some say their style has developed over time, but I don’t really see it. Their first album (Virgin-A) was already very diverse, and the essential energy is all there in their first single (Lock on!). Recommendations: Lock On!, Naked Liar, Generation Gap, Replica.

Hana almost removed all blue from her outfit/hair nowadays. I think they somewhat got rid of the colours since Angie and yuri joined. But yes, they certainly took influences from the idol scene when they started including the colours. The crowd also had coloured light sticks and things like that. I personally would put them in 5 periods as the dancers have been mixed (and Oreo was with the band before the dancers as Doll$boxx formed in 2012), but I guess this works for a rough estimation for sure. It would certainly make it way more complicated to name all the changes.

    • @FourBleats

@@MaartenT The colours might have been due to pressure from their label at the time. I've always assumed the Oreoburger was a bit of an FU at the end of their time with Victor, but maybe I'm reading too much into it.
      ----
Just to add the colours for the performers: Performer #1 (Mai) = light blue; Performer #2 (Arisa) = green; Performer #3 (Nenne) = orange. I think Nenne really added to the band by being able to cover on keyboards and free Oreo to front the show. Ganbanba Dancer works so much better with her on the stage. Shame she's taken her solo music offline - she was pretty good.
I kinda liked the colour coding - it certainly helps to get a grip on who's who. These days, they seem to be going for the explosion in a paint factory look. 😄

I am pretty sure they were self-produced in the beginning of their career. There might have been a label or management behind it, but the "label" they were on seems to be self-produced (like so many small Japanese bands). I know Victor (their first label when they went "major") tried to put them all in similar outfits (the red ones), you can see it on their 7th anniversary concert and the album that released around that time. I personally don't like that look.
As far as Nenne goes, I agree that it's a shame as Nenne was my favourite of the old dancers, but I can imagine that when you love music and get hearing damage on a young age because you are a dancer for a pop/rock band, it's possible you might want nothing to do with music after that. It's speculation on my part, but the hearing issues might have been permanent or maybe they keep coming back. It is what it is, she might return after a couple of years, you never know.

    • @FourBleats
      @FourBleats 5 місяців тому

@@MaartenT As far as I can tell, Nenne is still in the music industry, just on the production side rather than performing. Much more business focused, so perhaps wants some distance to her past.
Victor were definitely behind some of their styling choices from the MUSIC BATTLER album onward. The red uniforms were for KAKUHEN, then it went a bit wild for G-litter and Go Luck! EP. They seem to have much more freedom now with Crown Stones.

    Thanks for the nice reactions.
I am a 64-year-old Japanese, now retired, but used to work in the Japanese music industry. I would like to share a few words from that experience.
You mentioned that you felt the influence of MIYABI in Gacharic Spin's bassist F. Chopper Koga, but I don't think that is an accurate statement in terms of the lineage of Japanese bassists. Maybe you have recently started listening to Japanese music, but I don't think you should easily assume that whoever it is was influenced by a musician you happen to know, based on superficial technique or impressions. Funky bass like Koga's must trace its roots back to the funk music and funk fusion craze of the 1970s. There have been many excellent bassists in Japan since that time who are the originators of Koga's style, and it must be said that their traditions have been passed on to the current Koga and MIYABI style and put on a new robe.
If you are interested, why not learn about the history of Japanese rock, metal, and funk fusion?
Not only Koga, but I would like you to realize the importance of the fact that each musician's style is the result of the accumulation of various genres and long histories of instrumental music.

Fun reaction, especially the counter 😆
Based on enjoying this one I’d suggest Let it Beat MV from their current EP, however to keep experiencing different elements of Gachapin I’d most recommend -Lonely Mart, live.
P.s. keyboard player Oreo is in charge of costumes, and also wrote music and lyrics for Lonely Mart.

There are 2 live versions of this song on their channel. One with this line up, the second with Yuri their drummer who was out on maternity leave when this and the other live were recorded.
I think you enjoy both of the live videos due to their performance.
And the "Sailor Uniform" is still used at many schools in Japan. In addition to other types.
The ladies of GS like other bands, incorporate multiple other genres into their music. But they seem to incorporate a lot of funk jazz, in particular.
Angie has changed her shade a few times, I seem to recall her hair being bright orange once but I might be thinking of a different group.
A few other groups you may want to look into are Band-Maid, Nemophila, Fate Gear, Scandal, Bridear, Unlucky Morpheus and many many other bands and groups.

I like miyavi, mostly the early stuff with the Kabuki boys. What’s my name? One of my favourite album of all time.
But the post 2012 stuff, not really my cup of tea.

Mindset is a funk/punk/progressive masterpiece - one of my favourites of any band coming out Japan... so, all these Japanese bands on your journey so far and no Band-Maid yet?? Try their recent live version of "HATE?" to get a taste of one of the greatest hard rock bands of the past decade

@@easyfunkycrazy There's a particularly unhinged version of Ben-Jan-Dan from that show. There's also a good 10 minute medley of tracks that have MVs. A bit of fast run through of some very good material, but well done. Find it by searching for Gachanomix. It includes the Gatchadan track (the hype girls got their own single) and some TOMO-ZO vocals.
Edit: They opened with Dangan Beat - that's a banger. There's also Winner, a real classic, but they'd done a costume change by that point.

It'd take far too long to discover GS via reactions, so I don't blame you for checking out stuff in your own time. There are plenty of things worth a reaction though, so here's my cherry picked list of highlights. Kachi-Kachi Yama is another recent track. Fun MV and a lot of folklore that you might understand better than the average western reaction channel. You'll need to see their previous line-ups too, with their original vocalist and when they had two hype girls fronting the band (and really went all in on the colour coding). Try the MV for Lock On!! to see Armmy and then maybe the Sekira Liar MV? The other thing you'll want to see is a bit of live stuff. I'd put the 2015 version of Hunting Summer top of the list because it is so unique - there are more recent versions, but they're not quite as good, IMO. Tamashii from 2019 is great for pure energy and I'd also recommend the instrumental track Commuter Rush on Planet Nicrin from 2018 - a great showcase for guitarist TOMO-ZO and some of their wildest costumes. Finally, their acoustic material is very underrated - fantastic compositions and vocal performances. Alive ~Ganbare! Nippon~ is a good pick, but anything marked acoustic will likely be impressive.
    Whatever you choose, enjoy it.

There are bands that do metal, rock, jazz or fusion. Gacharic Spin can do all those stiles sometimes in just one song. That's very hard to do! And to move around und change rhythem at the same time needs a lot of hard training too. To make a show look that easy as Gacharic Spin is one of the hardest things to do in showbusiness!
