  • Located just a quick, 30 minute boat ride away, Chacachacare is the furthest island in the chain of islands off the north western peninsula of Trinidad. On the island there is lush flora and many scenic coves and bays. One of the main attractions on the island is the Salt Pond, which features hypersaline water that has potential health benefits making it a popular attraction for those who visit the island.
The island was also historically known for its leper colony which was established by the British government in the 1860s and was run by French Dominican nuns. There are still remnants of the now abandoned colony such as the nun's quarters and the hospital where patients were held.
