I am listening to the audiobook. Interesting so far. My hope is as literature evolves more stories of being out in the field becomes about seeing how people learn to mask their own demons and horrors carry-on in such chaos and trauma.
I am glad you mentioned the memorial of the WOMEN'S US Army Medical Corps. As there still are very few tributes to women - Molly Pitcher, Florence Nigthengale, Clara Barton are barely mentioned.
The women is such an amazing book. I am so happy I found this mytalk book review. I'll share the beginning with my bookclub this week so they can here from Kristin Hannah. Thank you Lori and Julia for all the good book suggestions and author interviews over the years; I'm really going to miss your show! I've listened from the beginning and was at one of your 1st live shows in St. Paul in a hallway...maybe it was the Grand Garage, I can't remember but I think it was Donnie Love who's wife had a shop there.
Can’t wait to read this book; so curious and wondering if this may be similar to the show in the late 80’s “China Beach.” My mom LOOOVED that show and unfortunately she’s passed so I can’t share this with her. I think she’d love this book; I agree it’s a story LONG overdue to be told.
I just finished it last week! Kristin Hannah is my favorite female author.

China Beach is loosely based on DaNang the R&R center.
I can see Dana Delaney, who was the lead in CHINA BEACH, as the CO to whom Frankie first reports.
