Douglas Coupland - A manifesto

Artist and writer Douglas Coupland presents a reading of ‘A Manifesto’, which discusses the changing nature of selfhood in the early 21st century. The reading was inspired by his research for his forthcoming book, ‘The Extreme Self’, the title of the much-anticipated follow-up to Coupland’s ‘The Age of Earthquakes’ (2015), which he co-wrote and co-produced with Shumon Basar and Hans-Ulrich Obrist. This presentation was part of March Meeting 2019: ‘Create Dangerously’, convened by Omar Kholeif. An edited version of this talk will appear in a forthcoming volume titled ‘Creating Dangerously’, edited by Omar Kholeif and published by Sharjah Art Foundation.
Organised by Sharjah Art Foundation, March Meeting is an annual convening of artists and art practitioners from around the world who come together to discuss vital issues in contemporary art. The 2019 edition of March Meeting was part of the opening programme for Sharjah Biennial 14: ‘Leaving the Echo Chamber’, curated by Zoe Butt, Omar Kholeif and Claire Tancons.

يقدم الفنان والكاتب دوغلاس كوبلاند قراءة من "مانفيستو"، ويناقش فيها الطبيعة المتغيرة للأنانية في أوائل القرن الحادي والعشرين. استلهمت القراءة من بحثه المتصل "الذات المتطرفة"، وهو كتاب مرتقب يستكمل فيه ما بدأه في "عصر الزلازل: دليل إلى الواقع المتطرف" (2015)، الذي شارك كوبلاند في تأليفه مع شومون باسار وهانز أولريش أوبريست. هذه الجلسة القرائية جزء من "لقاء مارس 2019: أبدع بخطورة" من تنسيق عمر خليف. ستظهر نسخة معدلة من هذه الجلسة في كتاب بعنوان "أبدع بخطورة" من تحرير عمر خليف، سيصدر قريباً ضمن منشورات مؤسسة الشارقة للفنون.
"لقاء مارس"، الذي تنظمه مؤسسة الشارقة للفنون، هو لقاء سنوي يجمع الفنانين وممارسي الفنون من جميع أنحاء العالم لمناقشة القضايا الحيوية في الفن المعاصر. شكّلت دورة 2019 من "لقاء مارس" جزءاً من البرنامج الافتتاحي لـ"بينالي الشارقة 14: خارج السياق"، من تقييم زوي بُت وعمر خليف وكلير تانكونس.
