Super honest assessment from a talented, emotionally stable thinker. They BOTH sound GREAT! Though for me, after decades of listening to Ludwig snare drums, it's the sound that I expect to hear. The nature/quality of its 'voice' is unmistakable and SO familiar. What's not to love? I love Ludwig Snare Drums. Thank You for your sane words and GREAT SHOWCASE!
Wow, thanks for that comparison and analysis! First, I bought a Tama 50th reissue 14" x 5" rosewood snare and my Tama extended wires were "pre mangled." It sounds like you had a similar experience with the bell brass drum. I cut one wire out to try to fix the buzz and ended up ordering a slightly better replacement from a Tama dealer, but it was still not a well made set of wires on a fantastic sounding and expensive drum. Second, I also own a Black Beauty 14"x5" snare that I bought in 1994 and I put a die cast hoop on the batter side around 2002 when I discovered that I had warped the original triple flanged batter hoop from years of hitting rimshot backbeats. I love it with die cast on top! Third, I've always wanted a Tama bell brass because of the mystique and the unmistakably real character it has on a lot of commercial recordings, but I could buy FOUR other really awesome and expensive snares for that price (the rosewood snare was literally 1/4 of the bell brass cost!). And when I pull out my old Black Beauty and play it after a long hiatus, I remember what a great sounding all around snare it is. Thanks for your video, it made me realize that I don't have to spend $4,000 on a Tama bell brass to get "that" snare sound. Really enjoyed your demo too! Rock on.
@drumPhil42 that makes me really happy to hear! 😍 now, weeks later, I must say that the black beauty is more of an allrounder with a more balanced and more "normal" sound that other people would consider how a snare should sound like. the bell brass is a little more special in a way a mum describe her autistic child. its less of an allrounder and more of a dark rock horse from my point of view. at least with the medium tunings that I like most.
both of these beauties sonically sound and look fantastic I would definitely say so I would say it comes down to a choice of personal preference ....🙂❤️

thanks for putting out this comparison demonstration I really appreciated checking it out 🙂🙂❤️
This video is killer!, I’ve actually both snares and planning to keep them, I see them as complements rather than competitors.

Very close it turns out! One of the rare times where you can say "save some money and get the Black Beauty"
they DO sound different, but you cannot really say one is better than the other, just different!
Tama bell brass for the win
TAMA !!!!!!😍🔥
Ludwig BB all the way 😍
bb = black beauty = bell brass 😁
Ludwig more open and bright and is the winner
ludwig sounds brighter because I got a 24strand steel puresound installed. 24 is awesome imo, cooler attack, but not total wire domination!
Die cast hoops on both.
yes!
