Thanks Becky for the support. Good luck with your cleanup. Ticks only have to feed every 2 years to stay alive... that is part of the reason they are so hard to kill. Low humidity is their weakness, though, so yard cleanup is a must to get rid of those damp places where they hide.

I started this after pulling a tick off me that had Lyme. It was too small to identify so I had to send it to UMASS to get tested and it came back positive. I luckily got it off in time but wanted to make sure it never happened again. I had been working in my yard when it got on me. Good luck

Thanks a lot, I rally appreciate it. The ticks in this area are a close time with the long winters as being the biggest draw back. I let the kids be kids and they roam the woods (to an extent) but I have them tell me when they leave the perimeter because they have to get a full body search for ticks. They are that bad up here.

Put a couple.drops of rose geranimum on dogs in.ADDITION TO VET PILLS.
I use permethrin on my boots and jeans . If I work outdoors, I take 1 of my dogs pills, ticks fall off. Also, when u go inside and take a shower, use soap all over. Water doesn't rinse them off, irish spring does. They don't bite immediately, they crawl on your body for hrs to find the perfect spot.
I always find them in the worst spots. Getting pretty good with a mirror these days.

I walked 30 steps from one house on our property to the other and had a tick crawling on my shoe while I was about to enter second place. I was so upset and raging!! Like WTF. No tall grass, clear open path, no shrubs. I do think they fall from trees but maybe can blame it on a strong breeze or whatever and their luck they land on us. I am on a mission to destroy these fuckers. Appreciate this video and demonstration. I will get to work next time I am up there ( have property in NH).
Moon, they are becoming an epidemic... they can live so long without eating.... something like 2 years. I think what got me was that most creepy crawley things don't want anything to do with you.... but these guys hunt you down AND can give you a terrible disease! Best of luck to you man. 👍
@JackofAllTrades1 thanks, man!! Omg!! I didn't know that! 😬 I couldn't agree more!! They seek you out! What also freaks me out is that most bugs that land on skin, you flick off-- done. Not these fuckers- they grip. I once scratched my skin bad from freaking out when one was on my upper arm and trying to get it off in panic mode. I have an irrational fear of these things. We have had a few on us either from yard work or one will hitch a ride with us back home into our house. I am now DEET'ng myself up without fail and when time permits, the pemethrin on clothes thing ,however that is only a small fix. Again, excellent info and demonstration on this product!! I never realized how bad it was (being from the midwest) until I left the area, and it's not so common in other parts of the US. Folks would look at me sideways when I would say to a group of ladies, "Hey guys, check this out..." 😀

little correction. ticks tend to be 2 to 3 ft up if deer are in the area. generally look what critters you got around and treat to that height. saves alot of chemical.

Fort Sill, Oklahoma. 2003. While in basic training, a tick absolutely dropped on the back of my neck from a tree. Thing was massive and I'll never forget it. That most certainly is not a "myth".
The odds of them finding their food up in a tree is very rare. They have to be closer to ground level, where they have a much better chance of something large brushing up against it and picking them up.
I had one drop on me from a tree today as I was cutting grass. I saw it land on my arm. It definitely dropped from the tree.
The ticks in Kentucky are God awful now. I can't even go walking in the woods anymore. I've had em fall from the air and land on my neck and they are crawling everywhere.
@@JackofAllTrades1You keep saying that over and over and you’re not getting that you are incorrect. Many people have told you they will fall out of trees and get on you. Also happened to me, one fell out of the overhead trees onto my hat and I heard and felt it hit. Removed my hat and sure enough a tick was on top of it. It’s NOT a myth LEARN and stop spreading false information.
Ticks love the military training areas. Redstone Arsenal, training soldiers, thick woods, swampy, littered with wildlife, limited space so we used the same trails all the time. I saw a "ball" of ticks at the end of a branch at my height (6'6"). I placed a ziplock bag over the ball and collected them. There was 12 in the bag. It was a common path and I think they had been gathering for a little while as each patrol walked past. I don't care if they jump, fall, or just reach out to grab you. We were not allowed to treat the area but from then on I kept homemade bug killer with me and had the soldiers spray their wrists, necks, and ankles and check each other at every stop.

What is your opinion for using this and how to use it for small children playing in the yard to stop exposure from toxic properties of this stuff?
@angrybadgerminis3077 don't let them play in the areas treated until a full 24 hours after the granuals have been watered in. Personally I waited longer if it was damp out. I wanted to make sure the yard had time to dry.

@angrybadgerminis3077 depends on what you are treating it for. Treat at least every 6 months for ticks. If you are in an area that gets a lot of snow, treat just before first accumulating snow hits. If you still have issues 4 months in, then treat again immediately and so on every 4 months.
I have ticks coming from behind my fence where there is tall grass (the HOA is suppose to maintain that but they don’t) and they are coming through my back landscape which is mulched. I had 3 on me yesterday from weeding that landscape bed, so they do cross mulch.

I just treated my backyard with 2 20lbs bags of granules. Not that big of a yard for 2 ticks in 1 week on my dog was enough for me to do something about it. But I wasn't sure how much water I was suppose to use. I applied enough to cover the lawn but felt it wasn't enough? Like a quick rain shower that passed by wet. I will be applying the bottle and spray the perimeter and trees and brushes next. Thanks for the vid!
I think it just needs to be in contact with moisture to activate so I'd guess the more you put the more water you'd need. I would just walk around with the sprayer and make sure it was hit... or I did do it one year before it stormed and that was easy.... I def didn't soak the area.
A friend of mine once asserted that the ticks in his canopy covered yard near the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge would drop out of the trees. I was doubtful about that thinking that they might prefer lower accomodations, but then I went to a backyard dinner party on the lawn and was seated beneath a huge Live Oak canopy. I had just finished eating when something told me to look up. In that instant I saw an illuminated dot from 25' above, smaller than a leaf, doing a zigzag spiral in the late afternoon sunlight ... It was a big tick that landed in the hair on top of my head. So, they do climb and dive if the trail in the perpetual motion of their daily walk leads them there.
I guess maybe they were after the birds or squirrels? Ticks main food source will be mammals that are much lower to the ground. The smaller ones rely on birds and rodents for their first meal but the bigger ones need a much slower host.
Actually, ticks do NOT drop from trees on people. They hold their arms out on low level foliage, and grab mammals that walk by.
Your anecdote is scientifically nonsensical. Can ticks fall from foliage, yes. This is not how they hunt food. I have lived and interacted with ticks for years, what you're saying is a myth

Great video. They don't jump but the smaller ones (2-3mm) can actually haul ass. Grabbed for one on my dog that had not yet attached and missed, that thing put wheels on I almost lost it

Use the same product in Rhode Island the ticks in New England are brutal my beagle has had 30+ ticks in a year and a half this product works
They seem to get worse every year. I feel like something eventually needs to be done to keep them from reproducing. I know there had been some talk of releasing some genetically modified ticks that would pass on traits that keep them from doing so. I just dont know if that will ever happen.
If they can modify bees than I’m sure they can with the ticks too. We’ve had some milder winters than normal it must be below 10 degrees Fahrenheit for 7+ days to actually kill them. I’ve gotten them in February in RI and some local elderly have passed away from infections other than Lyme, which actually originated in Lyme Connecticut. I think we need opossums breeders and to release thousands of them to keep the population down.

Yes, kill them all...they're getting worse and worse. I grew up playing in the woods that borders my back yard. Never seen or had a tick on me or any of my friends, and we spent hours and hours in the woods everyday. Now at 44 yrs old, I've had them in my yard, on me, on my dog, my kids. I've been woken up or disturbed from sleeping a couple times to find them on me, or on my blanket. I cannot stand them, I HATE THEM. Kill them all. Apparently, western Pennsylvania has a heavy tick problem, so I'm sure they've spread to here from there.
How do I know when spraying ,when the insecticide in the bottle is all gone and i can stop please ?
The bottle will be empty. The water from the hose does not go into the bottle... rather the passing of the water through the nossle creates suction (venturi effect) to pull out the chemical that is in it.

I'm gonna give this stuff a try I bought the two Bags on Amazon for only $13.00 Dollars we have a major problem Year after Year with Moles we've tried everything from Traps to Poison to Sonic Spikes to Juicy Fruit Gum and we still see lots of Mole Hills. We used Milky Spore Grub Control in the past and that worked for getting rid of the Moles but Milky Spore is around $50.00 Dollars a Bag and I'm not really one to spend a lot on Lawn Care so I hope this stuff works just as good as Milky Spore did.
When I lived in the Midwest we actually had a local guy who was the "mole hunter" ... he would set a bounty on the moles in your yard and get paid per dead mole he got. You may have something like that in your area. There's nothing more reassuring than having proof.
I have a new house with no grass yet and I have ticks on my garage and house siding mid day in direct sun. This is an odd tick season.

I have a bus in a field in the woods. I find them often on the back of my bus. I'm planting lots of herbs this year hoping for some kind of natural long term protection along w the granuals etc.. theres a sht ton . Every time I'm there I get one on me. Grass is cut etc etc etc..
How do the granules work? They get watered into the soil so how does it kill ticks for 3 months?
They dissolve with the water into the soil and the ticks come into contact with that dissolved product as they walk around, and it kills them.
I know that was a pretty generic answer. I researched this when I first started using it, and I can tell you that it attacks their nervous system. Specifically something only ticks and also fish have. This is why it warns against using it near bodies of water.
Hello from Georgia, I've been using the same product the past couple of years in our new property this product is affordable enough where I can get pretty decent coverage in our 2-acre lot, but i only use it around perimeter. After watching your informative video I'm going to have to do a lot of work to work around the perimeter to clean up all the pine straw and leaves!! I have also incorporated another affordable product using Diatomaceous tacious Earth and using my blower to blow some of that further around our property where deer like to walkthrough not sure if you had any experience using that? Thanks again for sharing
I do not have any experience with diatomaceous earth, but the perimeter is key... along with trying to keep deer out, that's the hardest. Thanks for commenting, and I wish you luck with the ticks.
@@JackofAllTrades1 luckily I haven't seen any ticks in my lawn space in the backyard or since we've lived here but we have deer roaming and my dogs have never had any ticks thankfully. Thanks for the tip about mulch, going to try doing that to create another barrier I wonder why ticks can't crawl over mulch?
@@patriot-hz1dy I don't think it's the lack of ability. It's undesirable to them...possibly the feel or not wanting to be exposed and maybe eaten. If you have the ability to have hens, they are great for ticks. It seems like the ticks get worse every year.
@@JackofAllTrades1 it's funny you suggested hens, I have in fact been thinking about it. I've been thinking about being a little more self sufficient for quite some time and having chickens for eggs to eat is far better than nothing. I'm a huge animal lover but if push came to shove I guess I would have to kill a chicken to feed my family. When I was a kid I saw my grandmother do it in her small farm and Mexico she prayed about it and even had tears in her eyes while she was doing it but we were fed. I know nothing about raising chickens, sound like a good UA-cam video project
@patriot-hz1dy Chickens were a huge part of surviving during the great depression. People were making si many different food items and using eggs to replace proteins for those foods. Chickens are valuable especially from a self sustained and off grid perspective.
I have ticks in my pool every day and a tree right above it. Are they hitching on birds? I find about 10 a day from big to small.
They like moisture, I would think its more likely they are crawling in from the sides or possibly from smaller animals visiting the pool area.
Lol I did research and I think they may be baby stink bugs....makes way more sense
@@leafyfeatherz6975 in the area I lived the stink bugs had an odd way of finding their way into the house and also into the wood stove through the vent.

I woke up and saw a tick on my deck screen (don’t know if it’s possible but I am pretty sure it’s a tick). My neighbors been finding a lot too…. Would I spray my singles too since it looks like you sprayed trees…
You could certainly spray the shingles on your house if you felt the need. Remember, you have to sit down or brush up against something they are on for them to get on you.
@@JackofAllTrades1 ya there’s grass all the way to the wall… our deck post is wood.. I don’t know if they crawled up or not to the second floor so I was surprised to see them or it could have been on the tomato plant I just carried. I avoided being outside for this reason but really excited to have a deck where I thought it was safe and now I’m just nervous. I have a weak immune system already, don’t need Lyme :(
@@ilovehandmadestuff treat the deck posts and the house around the deck... heck, the deck itself if you want. Don't treat any vegetable plants though. Let it dry for a whole day and then use it and enjoy it.

my problem is I live in the city and can't control my neighbors cats and dogs in my yard I rent. you have to keep animals out of the yard when the chemical is wet and when it rains you have to keep the pets out of the yard while the granules are wet because they are dangerous until dry again.
Yea that would be a problem. When I lived in the suburbs I used this one year and put a few stakes in the yard with yarn between them and signs that said "fresh pesticide" that kept the dog walkers out but there is no way to keep the cats out... they do what they want.

The only warning I know about is using it around fish, it's not good for them and there are warnings on the label about using it near their water sources. As for me, I have a well on this property and wasn't concerned about it. I would make extra sure not to get any of it in water troughs or bowls though.
Every winter here in Florida the ticks get bad. My pups are in treatment and I check them and myself before they come indoors. I woke up with a damn tick between my fingers this morning. It was hurting. And the tick was dead. So it must’ve fell off my dog. Jeesh. Gross
You must be in the interior part of FL, I've luckily not had any issues here on the west coast of FL.

It needs to be watered in to activate. I typically would wait just before rain was in the forecast and then let the rain do it... then I would stay off the lawn for a whole day.
Are ticks a problem even in the NH suburbs?
It really depends on how much land you have... trees, brush, etc. The deer also bring them in. I can imagine if you live in a cleared area, like the typical suburban subdivision it wouldn't be so bad. Most neighborhoods in my area are wooded though... so higher concentration.

I just used the granules today and set my Scott mini to 2 1/2 like the bag suggests but the granules were barely coming out so I changed it to a higher level. That should be fine right like it’s not gonna kill grass if too much granules go into the yard? Idk why it suggests 2 1/2 because it barely dispersed
Yea, it won’t kill the grass... you are just wasting product by overdoing it which I feel in most cases... I would rather do too much than not enough. Each little pellet covers a certain small area around it once it’s watered in and you just have more coverage.... nbd. No bugs for you this year. 😁

I might run it one more time tomorrow on a higher setting like 3 1/2 since that setting worked well afterwards when I used the grass starter new lawn fertilizer and will get the liquid stuff for the hose tomorrow. Started finding deer ticks on my dogs so gotta make sure it’s done good since there’s woods behind my house!!
@@Jaredxstp man deer ticks are no joke. Lyme disease is no joke, that was my biggest concern living in NH with my kids running around in the woods every day. I ran my spreader on 6 lol.

@@Jaredxstp I had a pretty big wooded lot around the house which always makes it worse. I know people who keep hens just for the ticks! Good luck with the dogs, I never had outside pets but I feel they will just help bring them into the house. Luckily they get lethargic and die pretty fast in dry air so in the summer AC helps.
Whats the best way to apply if you own dogs
I would limit the dogs to one part of the yard and treat the other. Then, wait a full 24 hours and switch sides. Like take them on a leash in the front yard when they need out and treat the back yard then switch the next day.

Once you water it in, you need to wait 24 hours before letting kids or animals walk on that grass.
I can tell the north is hitting spring and the ticks are showing their ugly faces because of the number of views this video is getting recently. Hang in there, treating your property like I show you here twice a year, is all you need for the piece of mind.

@@JackofAllTrades1 It was a pretty cold winter however I also had a bunch of leaves that I neglected to pick up. I just finished trimming my hedges, when I came in I found 2 ticks crawling on me about 30 minutes apart. 🙃 Here I am. Can the spray be used on the same day that it's supposed to rain?
@@KINGTERIK it can be but you wanna let it dry. I think the bottle said 30 min to an hour drying time depending on conditions. So just as long as you get a decent break in the rain.

Is that product safe for well and septic?
I researched the same thing when I started using this back in 2017 because I had the same concerns with my well. The only thing I could find was that it shouldn't be used in open water sources like ponds or lakes because it could be harmful to certain fish. Because I didn't get a direct answer on this issue I didn't use it right above my well which was behind my house and uphill from the section I normally treated for ticks. I did use it right above my septic drain field though with no issues that I know of.
what is I have free ranch chickens? would the pesticide hurt the chickens?
I would think if they ate a tick that had been poisoned that it wouldn't be good for them.
Research the product . It attacks the nervous system. Any animal or human coming into contact can be affected . I be concerned about consuming meat chickens or even eggs that’s been in contact .
I hate ticks, I pulled a deer tick off me yesterday and then one off my dog. We get deer ticks and lone star ticks where I live and yes, it is a war against them.
They are the worst... snakes and spiders and most animals people are scared of generally want nothing to do with you... but ticks, they are hunting you out.
My sister lost a dog because of lawn treatment of some kind...dont.recall and i would not.ask her because of her.guilt. problem...im.worried.about dogs with that.stuff

Hey, sorry to hear that. No pets on the lawn after you have watered it in until it has had a chance to dry. I would never let my kids out after I treated the lawn until the next day to play it safe.
So as long as it dries its ok for pets to go outside? My lawn gets waterd often so im not sure if its unsafe every time the lawn is wet?

I personally do not have outdoor pets but I do have little kids. Use the amount as directed on the package for your size lawn and spread it in the afternoon after the animals are in for the night. Water it in after (or rain) and then it will likely be a good 10 to 12 hours before the next day and it should be dry. If it's actively raining the whole time I wouldn't trust it. It needs time to dry. I hope this helps.
Currently having a battle with dog ticks here in Leominster MA! Been trying to go the natural route with Wondercie, Vets Best, and D.E., and doesn't seem to be doing anything! Going to try Triazicide.

Should you use this before or after you've cut your grass?
After and try to keep your grass low if you can.
@@JackofAllTrades1 Unfortunately my grass has gotten a little high in the back and I was just about to take a 60v weed whacker to it when I noticed some those evil critters crawling on the siding. Welp I guess I'll have to spray down my paint suit with some Sawyers and pray for the best. Thanks

We are so infested with ticks it's unbelievable. They are all over the yard, I had to give my mom the dog and the kids are staying over there because of them. I hope this one can work, everything we keep trying isn't working.
I tried the all natural stuff our first year in NH and it just didn't cut it. This stuff works wonders, use the two step process I use to get the yard and the surrounding bushes/trees and you should be fine. Do this at least every 5 to 6 months. I'd typically apply after the snow melted and then again before we set back into winter. Good luck

I dont know eu why wont let use stuffs like these, because ticks everywhere and lyme disease very significant at human population. I was sick with lyme disease trough 6 year when i was teen. It was hell. Headache, memory problem, depersonalisation, panic, depression, sleep issue and weakness. I should protect my family, and if only way to do that is illegal, i dont care.

Lambda cihalotrin is very similar than permithrin. Should be get the same result. The seller told me this one litre will be enought with 10 times to my 5000 square meter gardren with 1dl of this stuff to 100litre of water spray out.
Is this safe for indoor , outdoor cats?
You just have to make sure it's dry before letting them out. I would typically apply it to my lawn in the afternoon and then not let anything on the lawn until the next day to be safe.
This was very helpful! I'm buying 1/2 acre lakefront lot in China, Maine, with an old travel trailer on it. The lot is infested with ticks from being unused for several years. Lots of oak leaves and low growth to eliminate! Thanks for the tips to get this nice lake lot under control!
Yes. Definitely clean up the area and set a perimeter and keep them on the outside.
Can you use this as well as having Guinea hen?
Guinea hens are supposed to be the best thing to fight against ticks. Honestly I wouldn't combine them... they eat bugs, this kills bugs. I think chances are high that they would eat poisoned bugs.

Is it ok to use the spray on my porch?
I sprayed it on the side of my house with no issues to the siding. If you have concerns about discoloration I would test a small spot out of the way and see how it dries.
@@JackofAllTrades1 ok not worried about discoloration just want to make sure it’s safe for us inside if using on the porch. I won’t be going out onto the porch for a few days after anyway.

Does this stuff kill/poison bees?
The side of the bag has a list of about 100 different bugs that it kills. I don't think bees are on that list. This is a granuel that falls to the ground and is then watered into the soil. I would probably think though if it was harmful to bees then the manufacturer wouldn't openly advertise that as that would be a negative. You might need to look further into that and look into maybe a third party for info.

Sadly ticks have become terrible from Minnesota all the way east. Anywhere with hardwood the numbers are worse.
I was shocked moving up here from the Midwest. Only had one tick ever and I roamed the woods as a kid constantly ...3 years up here and I find one every other time I go into the brush.

@Braden the history buff I agree with you on that. I hear that from my buddies who hunt just west of St. Charles, and they have an issue with it. I spent 25 years in Semo and then another 10 in St Charles, so a lot of my memories are from Semo. It seems to have gotten way worse too.

They can't be on the lawn for 24 hours after you water it in. I would typically spread the granuals just before a storm and let the rain water it in and then I would keep my kids and pets off the lawn the next day.
juvenile tics have 6 legs. Adult tics have 8.

@richman117 I get nothing from this company but had delt with an infestation of ticks my first two years in NH and wanted to dhare my experience. This method almost completely got rid of them.
I've had ticks fall out of oak trees onto my shoulders/arms before. Not as common, but it does happen.
Lol...I have a few ppl say that every year. Science seems to believe they do not hunt like that. I've never had one fall on me but who's to say one can't accidently fall on you? Thanks for chiming in.

On a windy day we had ticks falling from a cedar tree adjacent to the patio . They definitely do climb trees.
@ctb2814 they climb trees but only high enough to reach their food. People think that ticks climb several feet above their pray and drop down onto them, and that's a debunked myth.

Have you given this stuff a try? I went a year trying other methods with no luck and my kids were constantly bringing in ticks. The next year I switched to Triazicide and never had a problem.

Safe around honey bees?
I had to do some deep reading to find this. The bag does not list bees as a bug it is intended to kill, however, further research shows that if bees come into direct contact with it or flowers that have bloomed while treated... Will die. Furthermore, it appears as though it is safe for bees who visit flowers that had not yet bloomed at the time of treatment. Hope that makes sense.

@@badasskombucha2193 if you wanna be super safe and don’t mind pets.... hens and especially guinea fowl are the best for ticks. I tried the environmentally safe pesticide from Lowe’s but didn’t have much luck my first year. You could just keep your grass low and spray only the parameter to set up a boundary. I’ve also heard ticks won’t cross gravel or mulch so a parameter of mulch may also work.
