This is Vinny and I want to say something since I am getting roasted and only one side of the story is being told. For one I never said that I don't believe in power, I use to have one! If u remember the argument it was about pro cyclist, all I was saying was that if pros didn't have power meters they would still be good. Guys back in the day were going just as fast as they are now. Power meters are a great training tool, but they are for achieving the last 1% of potential. I didn't use to just ride aimlessly, my coach was Mike Neel who was the director for 7-11 and Chris Carmichael's coach. As for you stealing my KOM congrats on a good ride I didn't even know that I had it, I haven't posted on Strava for over 3 years. But when I got that time it was 45 miles into an 80 mile ride 6 years ago. There is a big difference driving to the area and warming up and treating it like a time trial. For all the minions saying I suck or that I'm pissed that you took the KOM couldn't be farther from the truth. I have been a cat 1 for over a decade and done all the big stage races on the west coast including Tour of Utah, Redlands, Cascade, Mt. Hood, Bisbee (RIP a great race) Tour of Gila and 80% of all the regional races in California. I have won 15-20 Pro 1/2 races over the years in arguably one of the toughest districts in the country. I guess the "Drama" makes to get alot of UA-cam hits but I dont even race anymore and am 37 years old and washed up and haven't owned a road bike since the fall of last year. I had to give my road bike back to the team I was on. I prefer to ride MTN bikes and use my cross bike for the few road rides that I do. I'm not here to argue on the internet, or tell you how good I was. In reality at the pro level I was mediocre and wasn't gifted. I rode my bike 25 hours a week when I was serious and worked harder then anybody. I don't appreciate guys on here who know nothing about me, treating me like a hack from a couple sound bites on the internet. Peace out
VINNY! I pinned your comment to the top so that everyone has a chance to hear your side. Couple things, 1: I didnt drive and treat it like a time trial, I road from home and kept riding into town. 2: I fully get that you have won races and that I have not, I really did try to give you praise and always have. You are the closest thing I have to a local pro, so getting KOMS in my backyard held by no body is not fun. Your time on this was FAST and was done when you were still fit AF. So its a legit benchmark to try to take down. 3: The internet is full of trolls dude, one being your boy who roasted me and talked hella shit. So thats kinda what prompted me to add in a little drama to this. Which to be honest, is a bit doochey of me. It does make for good entertainment but its kinda a bit of a sucker punch to you because you cant really defend yourself. Its hard to balance the local vibe and the UA-cam vibe, which I really dont want to ruin my my name locally since I have to see and ride with everyone. 4: I will never be a pro, its not my goal nor could I be even be if it was. But when I started cycling you were like a god among men, your fitness was unreachable. So to be able to even get a glimpse at it, makes me super happy for the gains I have made. I feel that others want to see and hear about those gains. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and I didnt mean any disrespect. But please take this more as a joke then an actual jab at you. Its just Strava, its not that serious, maybe one day I can win something.
I don't know man. It's kinda like vinny was just content to be out of the game just enjoying the beach after such a hard time getting to where he was once and all the sudden gets put on blast for a random convo he had about power meters and then to drive it home further gets a kom taken (which he said he didn't even compete at) while a blogger makes it seem like there was an actual competition. I'm pretty sure by the sound of it if vinny would have taken that segment seriously there would have been no touching it by vc. Which also backs up his claim about power meters
My perspective of you - painted by VC - was some old school badass who rips peoples legs off on the bike. With that rhetoric, my opinion is that you are an egotistical cry baby who can't handle a few internet trolls.
Favorite VC video ever. So excited to see your recent success. I'm 180 lb, 48 yo, carnivore, riding for 1 year. Never going to race or train for your kind of power, but you are inspiring and you help me push myself. I can see my improvement and I'm regularly ticking off my own goals. Keep it up!
Ron Moulton All I can say is keep riding! Push yourself just that much further each time you go out. Extra couple beats per minute here, couple extra watts there, couple extra miles more than you planned originally, etc... I found intermittent fasting to be a great weight loss tool, and after the ride I break my fast with a protein shake and that’s it. Stretch, shower, then eat. Keep doin’ good work!
Dude love how opening honest you are...dig it. Great effort. Hope Vinny tries to take it back, having that Strava competition makes us better athletes...keep em rolling. Also big ups on the Phills videos too...digging them, that dudes funny as hell
Love the excitement. Your love of the sport is contagious. Great power to weight numbers! Thanks for sharing the numbers. I’m only around 4.5 w/kg but always interested to see real #’s from other amateurs. A KOM is a KOM. The only answer is to go get it back if you feel jilted. Great channel. Keep it going and continued luck on your great season thus far.
Well done Tyler! I can't relate to that feeling! I always feel like, "Oh wait is my power meter not working properly??" Haha I always felt like that when I first started sitting on 350w. I just did my first FTP of the season. Broke 4.1w/kg but can't wait to stomp it later on in the season! Keep up the momentum! You're destroying!
Haha, this has happened to me a few times recently, somehow beat my 4 minute power by 30w (from 340 to 370w) and now my 2 minute power by 40w (400w to 440w) and my first thought was whether my power meter was still working correctly. It is quite hard to tell as both were on climbs and the times did improve, but I had lost 3kg of weight as well :S!
We are all the same, but with different journeys. I’m older now. I no longer can pump my heart at 185 BPM. But the fight is the same, be the best we can be, where we are at! And eating plants only make me better at it, on Alpe D’Zwift nailed 2.88 w/kg.
YAY! You did it! Even by like 10 seconds it's still a PR! Great work. Oh, btw filming with the baby, totally cool. Haha! I have 4 kids and that was adorable. Dada! Lol!
Awesome video! Keep it up dude. I’ve been using Tony Wolf for a year now and I’ve seen huge improvements. When you showed his page, that was my podium pic in the top left of his page!
Ive been doing intermittent fasting for 6 months, and have been doing some cycling during it and have felt fine, but i keep hearing from people like durainer that high carb is the only way to get your best performance for cycling so I cant wait for this fasting vid that you have planned :D
Super proud of you. Way to go, feels awesome when you reach a goal and end up landing past the goal! Puff out your chest and be super awesome, you deserve it! Keep on pedalin
Great numbers . But consider one thing: Watts Uphill are always higher than on the flat and on the indoor trainer. To make it really comparable I do ihe test on the trainer. I have 342 indoor, 353 outdoor flat and 367 uphill,
Than you are the exception. But we are a pretty large training group and it is the same for everybode: read that one for start: blog.trainerroad.com/ftp-testing-outdoors-vs-indoors/
roland H Honestly, if you have a solid bike fit, you should be able to reproduce your 20min power on both flat and climbs. As for trainer riding, I agree it can be tough. Like a TT bike, your muscles adapt to trainer riding and learn to function as efficiently as outdoors. Definitely controlling your environment with fans makes an extremely huge difference. Also, hydration is so key to indoor riding. If you can keep hydrated and your core temp down, no reason why you can’t nail your 20min power indoors as well. Today I hit my best 90min power of the year indoors during a zwift race. I used my quarq which is what I use outdoors. So it’s possible to reproduce outdoor numbers inside.
roland H I get that. But at the same time, you could get to the point where they’re all level. I’ve found a number of people can reproduce the same numbers regardless of where they’re riding.
I feel your happiness bruh. I have increased 25 points and I’m jumping in one leg. Still in the mid 200’s but I know I will improve... what you said is super encouraging
thanks for making such an awesome channel. Inspired me to go buy a road bike, looking forward to my first ride this weekend. Really good content and well filmed, and love the race breakdowns and fitness pointers. Nice one.
Sweet! Your crushing it this year. I also feel the best when fasted and it really helps with weight management. I recently did an FTP test and my FTP W/kg is 3.94. Nowhere near what you can do, but for 1 year of training so far and it still being early season I'll take that.
Awesome video Tyler...can't wait to hear more about your fasting. I've been doing 16:8 IF for 2 months now and feet great...but I've only done a few zone 2 rides on Zwift and I think 2-3 HIIT workouts where I was suffering. The weight keeps coming off though....there's a lot of it to lose still. :(
,loving this channel. i hope to get back to the yosemite area someday(i stayed in a small town on the south side of the park, close to bass lake...i didn't know your channel @ that time). the next time i'm in your area, i'm bringing my bike too. i missed out on some epic riding
I was just wondering, "what is this dude's FTP" and bam, UA-cam mind-reading kicked in and I just saw this video. Although you did it a while back, awesome job and killer effort.
Your w/kg for your FTP and 20 min power are approaching domestic pro level, according to the Coggan Chart. Time to sign dat contract and turn pro!! 😁😁 Love how the opening music is synced with your cadence 0:02
Well done! I did my first ftp test at 175. I rexently started cycling & am not light whatsoever haha. It would be interesting to see some numbers from when you just started cyling. If you have any data from then
I dont, rode for 2 years without strava and only really got power 3 years ago. But I came it with a little bit of fitness from BJJ so I wasnt terrible, but not strong.
If it helps Chris (and I am WAY slower than Tyler) I started training in December 2016 and my first test had me at 177W. I reached 277W by Sep 2017 using TrainerRoad’s structured training programs. Dropped to 250 after an enforced break til Jan 2018 (2 crashes, 1 ride!) and now up to 280W
Thanks Bob that is very helpful. 10W/ month will be my goal for now .Being new to the sport I should make some good noob gains. How many hours per week were you training on average?
Nice one VC, I love your inspirational real life videos.. makes me believe maybe I can get fast enough to actually race! You've got no excuses now lol!
Great effort!!! I just did a ~20min test 2 days ago (5.1w/kg darn!) and used a segment just like you! Just a suggestion, what you can do is just ride the 17min segment all out then use the Monod Critical Power Curve (P=CP+AWC/T) to calculate out to 20mins. Obviously it's more accurate to use a segment as close to 20mins as possible. A 2min segment wouldn't be very representative. You can find your CP and AWC values on the cycling power lab website, or calculate your own values in a spreadsheet. This method will get you within a watt or two of your 20min power.
Well done, this is amazing! I've been following you for a while and your progression is truly inspiring. I don't see any reason it should stop there either! Wanna reach these heights too :)
A good video telling how did you achieve this huge ftp would be really nice (maybe I didnt search well in your videos and you´ve already done that.. but congrats for that you´ve worked for and deserve it
Always a fun watch, Tyler. Thank you and congrats on both the KOM and FTP accomplishments - Awesome! Hoping you'll shed some light on your recent nutrition changes in an upcoming video. Being plant-based, that part is always of interest, especially given the overlay with your big jump in fitness. Also, can you sometime talk a little bit about structured training programs? I've never done one but hearing you say you doubled your fitness in ~3mo is quite appealing. What does that look like, involve, etc? I just have zero idea, not trying to get you to unload all the deets of yours, specifically, but want to understand how it happens, pros/cons of that training period, and which aspects of your fitness are being measured. I did my first few races ever in the past 2mo and got lit up each time, so you've made me curious. As always, thank you for sharing!
Maybe I missed that part somehow but estimating one's FTP by taking the max 20 min effort minus 5% (that is open to discussion as well) in most models requires a period of "pre-exhaustion" of riding above one's presumed FTP effort. Usually something like max 5 min effort with 10 mins of recovery in between. Not looking for a quarrel, just thought that it may require some explanation. Anyhow, good riding up that hill and I am really looking forward to your thoughts on fasted riding.
for some reason, that important bit has been forgotten. still it works if you are comparing your results. it probably why anybody who is 5w/k isnt pro. also seated on a trainer will lower the test for most as well.
Just checked his Strava link and he did fair bit of riding, even if at moderate wattage, before the featured trial. Still not meeting requirements for a standardized FTP test but getting closer, possibly close enough for any of us, amateurs.
I am in the middle of watching your Tony Wolf Video and I just have the urge to remind you of a question I just heard you ask, Tony's response is priceless! Vegan Cyclist "So do I learn more when I listen to podcasts while riding or am I too hypoxic to remember anything? Tony Wolf "You have a smaller percentage of blood going to your brain during exercise." I feel like I should of done a hard ride before watching that video so I could retain more of the information. Words like "hyperchriphy" that I will have to Google.
Mark, hate to tell you.... but you are, right now, a grown up. I know, its hard to hear. And dude you are on track to being a MONSTER, I mean you already are but in like a year or two you will be a cat 1.
hey vegan cyclist, your videos are great, you are very interesting and entertaining, your kids are beautifuland your wife is cool to go along with all your trips and vids, keep up the great work.
Great job dude! Awesome beats and graphic overlays too!! Just wondering when your next triathlon is? Would be cool to see you do a half ironman where the bike is 90km long so plenty of time to catch up from the swim haha

Whom you can recommend else?

“Sooo Ima go steal Vinny’s KOM” 😂😂🤣🤣🤟 that’s so dang funny!!! Good shit dude!
First of all, that baby is crazy cute and loves her daddy. Second, congrats on putting in the work and reaping the rewards.
"It was at this moment that Vinny knew, he fucked up" lol
Thumbs up for the person who recorded this video! The images were amazing! And congrats for the FTP. 👏🏻
*WIFE CHEERS FROM THE KITCHEN WHILE HOLDING THE BABY*
Wife power. I mean your cycling is cool but your wife is pure magician!

AWSOME!, i did my first ftp test today got 2.3w/k even tho its low i still relate to that insane high after smashing your goals
swish|fx start of a journey, have fun!

Good on you - I'm 45 and just did my 20 min ftp = about 2.3 w/kg as well!
Nice job man! Now all you need to do is win a road race
Its coming bro! Its coming.
YAY! You did it! Even by like 10 seconds it's still a PR! Great work. Oh, btw filming with the baby, totally cool. Haha! I have 4 kids and that was adorable. Dada! Lol!
Most of the time the momma is filming while holding the baby while cooking dinner LOL
The Vegan Cyclist of course! Mom's equal queens of multitasking. 😊
Awesome video! Keep it up dude. I’ve been using Tony Wolf for a year now and I’ve seen huge improvements. When you showed his page, that was my podium pic in the top left of his page!
WHAAAA! Awesome bro!
Can't wait to hear about the fasting.
Anthony pecoreno same
Anthony pecoreno +1, I too want to hear more about how intermittent fasting my help performance.
Me 3
Me 4
Ive been doing intermittent fasting for 6 months, and have been doing some cycling during it and have felt fine, but i keep hearing from people like durainer that high carb is the only way to get your best performance for cycling so I cant wait for this fasting vid that you have planned :D
Great video! Hopefully I can reach your level someday soon! I'm only cycling a year but Im loving the races! Love watching your races especially.
CONGRATS DUDE!! so awesome to see you on a high
Proud of you man! Well done!
I have 342 indoor, 353 outdoor flat and 367 uphill,
roland H Eh...not really. I’ve been able to reproduce the same watts across all three that you laid out above.

roland H I get that.
Loving how much success you’ve had lately, very well deserved!
Dude I love you vids. I look for them every week. Keep up the great work and you definitely inspire me to get better at cycling.
I’m not vegan at all. But I’m loving your vibe dude. Thanks for all the good vids.
Hahaha, lightning bolts coming from the fingers. love it!
Proud of ya bruh!! Killer to see your progression.
achieving that with two kids is extremely hard.
Glad to see all the hard work paying off; congrats!!
Congrats bruh, you deserve all the fitness!!
well done mate and thanks for the honesty!!
thanks for making such an awesome channel. Inspired me to go buy a road bike, looking forward to my first ride this weekend. Really good content and well filmed, and love the race breakdowns and fitness pointers. Nice one.

Dude wtf those are some crazy gains i mean the noob gainz are far behind you and gaining 20W ftp is huge. Congrats! Respect
Inspirational. Nice going. At 156 lbs and 328 ftp I’m trying to hit that 5.0 too. And you killed it!!
You man have so good content in your videos! NO bullshit, just good information!
Just bought a PowerTap p1 pedals after watching all your videos. Can’t wait to get started with training power.
,loving this channel. i hope to get back to the yosemite area someday(i stayed in a small town on the south side of the park, close to bass lake...i didn't know your channel @ that time). the next time i'm in your area, i'm bringing my bike too. i missed out on some epic riding
Congrats. Vinny had that KOM way too long. Kudos to the videographer. Love your vids keep them coming.
Good job Bro! what a source of motivation! keep delivering great vids! cheers from Sweden
So fun to watch!!! Congrats.
Getting a pb in anything in life is reassurance you're making progress. You just took one step for man, one giant leap for...
Smashed it dude! Sky’s the limit from here!!
Is it possible to train like that without a power meter? On a poor family man’s budget....great job my man, makes me crazy motivated
Imagine what would this man do with free time, no stress and all the regeneration like pros.. Big respect and hats off.
I was just wondering, "what is this dude's FTP" and bam, UA-cam mind-reading kicked in and I just saw this video. Although you did it a while back, awesome job and killer effort.
Awesome bruh! Can you comment on how your training has changed in the last few months as opposed to previous? Congrats on the digits!
Congrats Bruh 👍 So motivating to watch your journey to this point. So excited for u 😀🚴
Congrats! Can’t wait for your next vid. Can you do a vid about your training and fasting, you got me hooked.
I am looking forward to seeing the vid about fasting etc. Awesome work bro.
Killed it bro. Great ad for Tony.
Your w/kg for your FTP and 20 min power are approaching domestic pro level, according to the Coggan Chart. Time to sign dat contract and turn pro!! 😁😁 Love how the opening music is synced with your cadence 0:02

Great Job VC!! I only wish to get to that level of fitness, maybe next year.
Amazing results dude! This video is really motivating :) Really digging training at the moment, love these sorts of videos
Awesome job dude! I cannot wait for the day I get to see you upgrade to cat 1.
Amazing stuff! Great job and congrats on the amazing improvements. I'd like to see a video with some info on your training plan and what it entailed.
Nice one VC, I love your inspirational real life videos.. makes me believe maybe I can get fast enough to actually race! You've got no excuses now lol!
Love the videos keep them coming
Great effort!!! I just did a ~20min test 2 days ago (5.1w/kg darn!) and used a segment just like you! Just a suggestion, what you can do is just ride the 17min segment all out then use the Monod Critical Power Curve (P=CP+AWC/T) to calculate out to 20mins. Awesome dude! So freakin strong!!!
Well done, this is amazing! I've been following you for a while and your progression is truly inspiring. I don't see any reason it should stop there either! Wanna reach these heights too :)
Awesome content dude 👊👌
Awesome dude. I been around 320-330 ftp for a few years. I guess I need to get on that program!
Unbelievable! Congrats!
SMASHED IT MATE!!!! you have every right to feel smug and awesome

I feel pumped just watching this...think like it's made my ftp go UP! VC......YEUP!

Greetings from Iceland
Hell yea dude! Crushin' in!
Lightning bolt finger gainz! Nice work vc
Kyle Hall if only he shot lightning bolts out of his finger tips. 😂
The expression on your kid's face @ 2:08 is priceless - looks like he is very surprised by your current weight :)
nice vid bruh! I've also been fasting. I've lost 20lbs and gained 30 watts on my ftp.
Congrats! Very interested in your approach to fasting.
never stop killing it BRO-malone
Top work bro!!
Congrats mate
Awesome numbers,,,
More of these vids please
Freaking crushing it man!!!!💪🏽
Maybe I missed that part somehow but estimating one's FTP by taking the max 20 min effort minus 5% (that is open to discussion as well) in most models requires a period of "pre-exhaustion" of riding above one's presumed FTP effort.
Congrats!!! Hope you post your 3 week training that brought you here!
You killin it. Nice job.
congratulations!!!
Congratulations on hitting 5W/kilo 👍!
I recently started doing HIIT fasted! It’ll be great if you share your thoughts on this!!!
I am in the middle of watching your Tony Wolf Video and I just have the urge to remind you of a question I just heard you ask, Tony's response is priceless! Vegan Cyclist "So do I learn more when I listen to podcasts while riding or am I too hypoxic to remember anything? Tony Wolf "You have a smaller percentage of blood going to your brain during exercise."
I feel like I should of done a hard ride before watching that video so I could retain more of the information. Words like "hyperchriphy" that I will have to Google.
Congrats on a solid result / achievement. I am curious how your FTP grew over the years based on training stress and dietary changes.
Haha so funny to watch your videos!!! So i am gonna go steal his KOM hahaha
Great film be interested to hear about the fasting.
Awesome Champ ... please share you training you did for the 3 months before this ? That would be just awesome to hear that part of the journey...
Dude, VERY nice power man! ....I wanna be like the VC when I grow up.
Mark, hate to tell you.... but you are, right now, a grown up. I know, its hard to hear. And dude you are on track to being a MONSTER, I mean you already are but in like a year or two you will be a cat 1.
The Vegan Cyclist man that would be sweet if you right about me! I’m not sure I can go much lower on the kg so I guess just keep upping the watts?
Urgh man, i have to rip my face off to hit 4.0, can't imagine reaching 5.0+ anytime soon. Well done, hard work pays off.
Hey VC awesome video and congrats! Can you share what you have done differently in the past few months, that got you this boost?
hey vegan cyclist, your videos are great, you are very interesting and entertaining, your kids are beautifuland your wife is cool to go along with all your trips and vids, keep up the great work.
Thank you very much Paul, appreciate you taking the time spread some love bro.
1:52 « Shut up and ride dude ! » 😂
Congratulations! You worked hard for it man. Now prepare yourself for the trolls who will accuse you of doping. ;)
Your green socks and shoes are on point.
I think he was wearing Velotoze.
Great job dude! Awesome beats and graphic overlays too!! Just wondering when your next triathlon is? Would be cool to see you do a half ironman where the bike is 90km long so plenty of time to catch up from the swim haha
