we are catholic and our families Alsatian hats are black - you see more colors now but many had black - after WWII was over people in my mothers village-grand parents - many put on their Alsatian costumes to celebrate w the village

Yes, Catholic women in Alsace wear black headbows after they are married but traditionally before marriage they would wear brightly colored or patterned bows.
