2023 and this pedal is still my go to. It's versatile and does everything I ask and more, it competes with pedals 3X it's value and has opened up many possibilities with both my synths , guitar and bass, update to latest firmware and learn how to hack it so you can add effects from other multistomps to have a variety other than the stock offerings
This pedal might very be the best $130 I've spent on an effect. Super versatile. Not cold at all. Works extremely well in my effects loop as well. Nice job by Zoom!
As a fellow guitar player I am deeply impressed with your ability to play something appropriate for each of the sounds on command - it's as if there's an algorithm running in your head that is triggered by each new sound - very nice :)
For $75 off CL - this was the single best purchase of gear I have ever made. It's a no brainer for a budget, swiss army knife of mod's and time effects.
I bought one of these in early 2017, It provides some amazing stacked delays, ambient reverbs, and modulations. When you add in the setlist capability, it stands head and shoulders above most other pedals, with the exception of the really expensive competition , like Strymon. But those pedals will cost you $500, whereas you can get one of these for a little north of $100.
This is one of your coolest demos, great playing! That pedal looks like tons of fun. I'm at work now, but I'll have to listen to this again at home, when I'm more relaxed!
Yes. Just think of it as a normal delay/reverb/chorus pedal albeit with far more capacity than most. If you want to hear it with other distortions, fuzzes, etc., just check out my last four or five videos as I've been using it for delay, etc.
Hi, Brett! Thanks for the great demos on these Zoom Multi-stomp Pedals! I just order the MS-100BT, and I am super excited to add it to my pedal board! I don't think I will be using the amp sims much, but I plan to use some of the overdrives, and all of the delay, reverb and modulation effects in the effects loop of my amp! I was a little skeptical that something so small could do so much, but your demos proofed these pedals for me! Thanks again!
Plenty of for and against with those two: Mobius has a before and after loop function (very cool), it also has a dedicated tap switch and plenty of controllers. Its rotary and vibe are A+ in my opinion and so are its chorus and phase algorithms. But it won't do two effects at once. The MS-70CDR will, including killer twin delays, mod delays, blackhole reverbs, vibe, phase, lo-fi... the list is daunting. No loop routing, though. Oh yeah, it has a tuner too. :) How much? Not much.
If you want tons and tons of options: yes. If you want more than what most other people have anyway, you could go for the first. Me; I like two or three reverbs, one or two delays and a nice chorus. I would never use 60 or 70 different effects. Think about it. ;)
Absolutely love his facial reactions to some of the wackier presets towards the end. *reaches down and immediately goes to the next one* This guy is what I aspire to be as a UA-camr. Very professional and musical ability like crazy. Only critique is I wish he'd talk more.
Yep, you can stack up to six effects in a chain, depending on their CPU draw. You want 4 choruses, a delay and a reverb? No problem. 3 delays and a chorus? No problem. Etc., etc...
Your playing as always is awesome, so much so that for years I have never hit the subscribe button as they are too entertaining! Great work (and now subscribed).
Man, when that trempan came through my headphones, I was jigging my foot at the perfect tempo and I momentarily became the most insane person on planet earth.
Needed to build a small board for gigs where I’am travelling by train and can’t carry my large board. The sound quality of the cdr is impressive for the price, I’ve been able to recreate a lot of sounds from my main board and the inbuilt tuner means I can travel even lighter. I paid £70 brand new, total bargain!!!
I put an always on EP Booster at 18v AFTER this to add color and tame some of the "digitalness" off. I imagine putting it in a single loop pedal so that you have a wet-dry might be even better.
Heeey! Well thats no fair! It has all those cool spacey sounds that took me forever to dial in right at the push of a button. =) This is one multi fx box that is necessary for some of the music Ive been wanting to create. Ill be buying this one. Thank you!
I think in the past there was a huge gap between high-end and low-end audio equipment. It seems to me this gap has reduced considerably. Nowadays it's possible to buy great equipment at such an affordable price!
hi i have a buy ms70 cdr and used with my synths ( yamaha dx7,roland d50,korg m1,alesis micron,microkorg mk1) It's a fantastic multistomp effects :) ciao
Zoom is making now an amazing job.......really. Thanks brother Brett, for all this years helping the music community. Congrats, Peace and Grace !!!!!!!!!!! :)
Hi Brett Kingman. I really enjoyed this demo, and the other videos you made with this pedal. So i ordered one. Hope its a great pedal for my practise amp. Regards, Magnus. Norway.
This is quite an amazing pedal! I'd love to try that strings preset out with a synthesizer, and some of these presets sound like something from Yes' "The Gates of Delirium"
+nicholas peter gagg Not at all on my rig.. but i have a dual amp rig, 100 watts of tube power each. So i have plenty of headroom. Ive tried every config - straight into amp, with buffer, without, with analog effects, without, with digital, without. Honestly, some of my more expensive pedals cut more attack. Luckily they have settings to compensate. With good pickups and an eq it's negligible. And if you are a plug in direct and play type then really this really isn't for you anyways but if a tone purist wants to try it - like i said it's cleaner than my handwired and analog pedals. Would I say its the best digital pedal? No but for it's price, sound and it's dsp being used solely for mod and time based effects - it can find a home on even the tone purists board.
The first chords you played with the first preset C-D-R sounded amazing. While not getting the zoom pedal, would like to get the same sound out of my new boss chorus and delay pedals combined with amp provided reverb...
People do that because they bought another equipment and regret, or don't like this one, or are in a bad mood, have nothing better to do, those sort of things. Unfortunately when you get 2k+ views the chances of those kind of viewers appear are bigger =/ Btw, nice review (like all the others of yours). I like the dynamism of your videos, nice improvisations, nice sound comparisons. Congrats! I don't play guitar but I've subscribed to your channel because the quality of your work! =)
Great video Brett. If I set it on my Mesa JP2C in the loop can I run a chorus and a delay at the same time? Also is it quiet. Seems like great value for the money.
Hey, the reverbs are pretty good considering the price. REALLY close. The Zoom office in Japan is elusive at best. I don't have any dialogue with them so I can't help you with the effects list, sorry. They are pretty good at posting white papers on their stuff, though, so you should dive into their website and have a look. Never know what you'll find! :)
Is there an online college course available for this? All kidding aside, although the learning curve is a bit to take on at first, once you get the hang of it, the MS70CDR is actually a pretty fantastic pedal. Certainly for the money, there's nothing in the ballpark that compares to it. Just hang in there and keep experimenting with it and you will fall in love with it.
my only beef with this is the changing between sets (chains) of effects, it's gonna be awkward at a concert to go down there and press the middle dial, change the set AND then confirm... oof
Some of those effects are amazing for what I've experienced with Zoom, and unlike all their other multi effects you don't seem to lose the high end from your tone! Only thing for me is can you use a tap tempo on it?
I really like the delay and verb stuff. Not so keen on the mod stuff. Sounds a bit too perfect and clean maybe. I like the analog grit I guess. Would be great for a travel rig though
Hi Brett. First, thanks for your good job, honestly, all your reviews are nice to listen. I'm hesitating between this zoom 70cdr and the Source Audio orbital. Can't find them near my location. My problem is "not much place on the pedal board" and i prefer "few but good". The cdr70 seems to offer "plenty and good". How do you compare them if you have ever tried the orbital ? Idem between the soundblox reverb (i've seen your video) and the zoom ? In advance, thanks for the answer. Best regards.
Great demo and sweet playing as always. Brett, I still don't understand what the line selector function is for. How and why would you use it? Re: the how, can you use the foot switch to turn it on and off? Re: what the line selector is used for, are you inferring at the 1:30 mark that the unit is not normally true bypass, but using the line selector function first in the fx chain does, effectively, give you true bypass? Also, would one use this as a way to say, omit the distortion in a patch while keeping the delay and such after it in the effect chain (the same as the pedal board switching mode on larger multi-fx floor units)? I asked a customer service guy from Zoom about the line selector function and he said, "Some effects might have a line setting for connecting to an amp/ cabinet/ fx loop/ etc... Not all effects have this but if they do set it to what is most similar to your setup." Honestly, the above reply from the Zoom guy confused me even more!!!! Any help would be appreciated (my MS-70CDR should be arriving in the mail tomorrow - can't wait!!!!).
Basically the line selector allows you to make two "lines of effects" (split signal) and switch between them but you can set it up to have one empty "line" and one with the effects you're using to enable a complete bypass by flipping to an empty "line" . Otherwise it only bypasses the current effect and leaves the others on. (Eg. If you want to leave just one of the effects in the "chain" on or off but leave a reverb or something on.
Hey, here’s a good idea! £75 a piece? Buy 2! Oh, you were looking to spend around £300? Ah, ok then, buy 4! Ha Ha! I can just hear someone about to ask, does that give me 12 seconds of delay? Oh me oh my! For the money? Very good! Does it compare to the high end effects like Eventide, TC etc? To my ears, No! Very clinical and digital! Horses for courses! Did anyone else notice the noise kick in in different places? Cheers for the Demo! Good Job!
Do you really have to hack it to add other effects? If yes, then how?
This thing sounds amazing at any price- amazing pedal more than a decade old but still relevant in 2024 and beyond!
This pedal might very be the best $130 I've spent on an effect. Super versatile. Not cold at all. Works extremely well in my effects loop as well. Nice job by Zoom!
All these years later do you still use it? If so how do you like it compared to all the new stuff out?
As a fellow guitar player I am deeply impressed with your ability to play something appropriate for each of the sounds on command - it's as if there's an algorithm running in your head that is triggered by each new sound - very nice :)
Exactly my thought by SOS by police hahaha
For $75 off CL - this was the single best purchase of gear I have ever made. It's a no brainer for a budget, swiss army knife of mod's and time effects.
All pedal reviews should have been made with this musicality!!! Cheers and great pedal!!!
Iván Tamez part of the musicality is that he's a great musician
Thank you for taking the time to do a thorough demonstration in stereo. It really does make a lot of difference to the audio experience.
I bought one of these in early 2017, It provides some amazing stacked delays, ambient reverbs, and modulations. I just love the intro of "Let it loose" and the way you smile while you're playing this. Great song.
wow! each of the bits you played seemed to fit the effect chosen perfectly! nice job!
That’s an amazing stump box. And the demonstration was absolutely perfect. Thank you.
The spring reverb on this sounds really nice.
This is one of your coolest demos, great playing! That pedal looks like tons of fun. I'm at work now, but I'll have to listen to this again at home, when I'm more relaxed!
Yes. Just think of it as a normal delay/reverb/chorus pedal albeit with far more capacity than most. If you want to hear it with other distortions, fuzzes, etc., just check out my last four or five videos as I've been using it for delay, etc.
i sold my tc flashback delay, i sold my tc stereo chorus, and i sold my wampler reverb. And i bought a used ms-70cdr and i have alot of money left.
Instrumentalists Jade How do you compare the zoom to what you sold?
I sold my Lambo for a toyota and I have a lot of money left over. What's your point?
Can you now do all those effects simultaneously?
+Andrew Chernysh. you can do 6 effects at once.
Robert Tomkinson dont compare tc and wampler pedals with a lambo please.
The new line of Zoom pedals are pretty impressive. Considering the price they are amazing. Thanks for the run through.
One of the best reviews on UA-cam I have seen and heard in some time. Nice pedal and very, very tasty licks! Thanks!!
You are a very solid player, and I really like the way you present the information. I just subbed, thank you.
As a guitar player for many years I need to say that you're a Badass !!!!!!!
If you want tons and tons of options: yes. If you want more than what most other people have anyway, you could go for the first. Me; I like two or three reverbs, one or two delays and a nice chorus. I would never use 60 or 70 different effects. Think about it. ;)
You are correct, there is no Autowah in the available FX on the MS-70CDR. However, the MS-50G has one, amongst many other fun things. :)
My local store offered this unit today new at US$96. The reason I'm here for a review and I think it's awesome, gonna buy one now
I like the chords you used. Good review.
Absolutely love his facial reactions to some of the wackier presets towards the end. *reaches down and immediately goes to the next one* This guy is what I aspire to be as a UA-camr. Very professional and musical ability like crazy. Only critique is I wish he'd talk more.
Wow, the best demo I've seen him do. Usually its the Angus Young, pinched harmonic BS on every single dirt pedal..........
Best product demo I’ve seen ever. Brilliant
Yep, you can stack up to six effects in a chain, depending on their CPU draw. You want 4 choruses, a delay and a reverb? No problem. 3 delays and a chorus? No problem. Etc., etc...

Man, when that trempan came through my headphones, I was jigging my foot at the perfect tempo and I momentarily became the most insane person on planet earth.
THANK YOU BRETT !!! YOU ARE SIMPLY GREAT !!! I LIKE THE MS 70 CDR BUT FROM YOUR REVIEW I GOT ENOUGH TO RUN FOR IT... THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN & CHEERS :)
Best ambient machine on a budget. So much value in these pedals!

I like using analog modulation delay after it on left or right.
Ha I love the palate-cleansing E at the end. Wonderful demo!

what you played during effect 13 the "Eric" was beautiful, you're a great player!
Absolute Amazing Effects ! Thx for this nice Demo !
A rare recording of a stereo pedal in stereo. Thanks.
I like your demos, Kingman. Tasteful playing and your style is great. Also you dont talk on and on like in so many other demos out there.
Very nice Brett - thanks for that brilliant demo - Red House P5 Tstyle - nice
Love some of the delays, and choruses nicely presented mate.
Another great video from Brett Kingman ;)
Great riffs, with a very pretty stompbox... Thanks!
Can we appreciate the incredible quality of this video from 7 years ago!
up to 6 effects based on how much processing power it requires. so any combination as long as you don't exceed the power
EXCELLENT playing. Very musical!
I think in the past there was a huge gap between high-end and low-end audio equipment. It seems to me this gap has reduced considerably. Nowadays it's possible to buy great equipment at such an affordable price!
hi i have a buy ms70 cdr and used with my synths ( yamaha dx7,roland d50,korg m1,alesis micron,microkorg mk1) It's a fantastic multistomp effects :) ciao
wow so you convinced me ordering it shortly .. thanks pal 👍
Zoom is making now an amazing job.......really.
Thanks brother Brett, for all this years helping the music community.
Congrats, Peace and Grace !!!!!!!!!!! :)
I was considering buying a Zoom multistomp to cover my modulation effects needs. This answers my problems.
phenomenal pink floyd-ish playing , man. would love to hear if u have any complete recorded songs based on the licks u played
just picked up one used for 75. excited to mess around with it.
Superb demonstration my friend!!!!
Oh mate you're a real good guitar player with great sound !!
It changes the tone drastically.
it cuts bass and attack of the notes to much
+nicholas peter gagg Not at all on my rig.. but i have a dual amp rig, 100 watts of tube power each. So i have plenty of headroom. Brett, ever the best. ! Great demo.
Nice little pedal.
At 7.13 ..The sound of Bread to a T
Great demo Brett!
I have the MS-50G to fill in the gaps for effects I don't very often, but this looks like it would fit the bill better...
Cheers
I might need at least 5 of these.... An additional patch switch outboard would be amazing!
The first chords you played with the first preset C-D-R sounded amazing. While not getting the zoom pedal, would like to get the same sound out of my new boss chorus and delay pedals combined with amp provided reverb...
3:08. 5:14 6:05 Amazing songs!

sound 39 : LOVE IT.
The chorus on 3:12 sounded very nice. Are you playing something from the pretenders?
What a great demo
Very nice review. Thanks alot
Thanks for the proper demo. The pedal speaks for itself.
so much niceness
Great video Brett. If I set it on my Mesa JP2C in the loop can I run a chorus and a delay at the same time? Also is it quiet. Seems like great value for the
money.
So impressive played that my wife came to my studio just to know who is playing... She didn't do that for my music... 🥴
Ordered the Zoom yesterday...
36 Monument was my favorite.
Love the "Let It Loose" quote!!!!
I just got this and i love it!!
nice demo man!
love how he smirks at the camera lol

Can somebody please tell me what song 5:14 is referencing ?? 6:08 Message In a Bottle by The Police ?

What's the little riff you were playing at 3:11? I really liked it, haha. Thanks so much!

I want one! Beautiful!
Great guitarist! Amazing
would love to see you do a video on the line 6 m5

I like the sound of the CDR, but when I hear demos of the G3 and G5 It just does not seem to sound as good.
Great demo and sweet playing as always. Brett, I still don't understand what the line selector function is for. How and why would you use it?

The bit from 06.20 makes my ears go funny!!
Merci beaucoup du partage, excellente video! ;-)
Blimy Brett, do you ever play a wrong note? Cracking review, thankyou!
Gee....I might buy some shares in Zoom!!! They will sell gazillions of these I dare say....
Sounds great. Thanks for the great review.
