Even though this is a comedy, Grouty is one of the most sinister villains ever. Absolutely brilliant 👍
He should have a wing named after him in the hardest jails in the UK .
Rest in Peace Peter Vaughan. You may have left us but Grouty will live on forever.
Peter Vaughn said that wherever he went people would call out to him as Grouty, something he found interesting seeing as he only ever appeared in 3 episodes.
Even now we've had Only Fools and Horses, Porridge remains my favourite sitcom. Ronnie Barker was just so good as Fletcher, and McKay. Barrowclough, Grouty etc etc were all superbly cast and acted
Grouty is such a great character - and I do love it when I get to learn new words. In this case 'fortissimo'
Ronnie Barker was a brilliant character actor..... his attention to detail , was extraordinary and meticulous....he had this an incredible ability to evolve himself and almost morph into the character he was performing...from the mannerisms,..voice and accent to walking mechanics and demeanor....he was a genius of comedy,...both as an actor and as a writer....one of a kind
Chris Evans...you nailed it well said...Talent we probably took for granted...back in the day with 3 channels so you had to be good (well most of the time)just to get on tv...Ronnie Barker was in the dna of our culture ...porridge was as near perfect as it's possible to get ...the writing the cast the acting the characters ....just perfect...
I absolutely love Ronnie Barker especially in Porridge and The Two Ronnies it brings back so many happy memories of watching these shows with my grandad when I was kid my grandad used to crack up laughing and I never got why until I watched the re-runs on UK Gold when I was an adult and I was creasing up because I finally got the jokes and innuendo's 🤣🤣

Wonderfully said , thank you. But Grouty could even put the frighteners on the Govenour of Slade prison !
I've always said, you could stand Arkwright next to Fletcher and think there were two totally different people.
Grouty is the epitome of sinister. Even being nice he is full of menace. Brilliantly acted.
Peter Vaughan was one of our finest actors. RIP
No doubt about it, tremendously versatile. Fantastic he was in GoT later in life.
+vordman yes. the British always put excellent top notch actors comedians back then. 👍
@@jacksugden8190 He was excellent in 'Straw Dogs' with Dustin Hoffman (1972?). Scary man in that as well.
I never tire of that show and the characters. A comedy 🎭 great.
Ronnie Barker was absolutely amazing - the characters he played, all different. He must have had a tremendous memory too, some of the tongue twister things he said in the the Two Ronnies. You don't see anyone as talented these days.
@@halfdayofthejackal9372 I think both he and Ronnie Corbett would have been. They both had a great sense of humour; quite often RC has to stifle a laugh. 'Four candles' was about the funniest sketch you could see.
'I need a bicycle.' 'What colour?' Brilliant!
Grouty and Fletcher are awesome sketches.
Greatest sitcom villain ever RIP
Porridge was a briliant show - and still funny.
One of my favourite lines was Fletcher being asked 'who was that?' Response 'That's Harry Grout, he runs this Nick!'. Response 'thought that was the guvnors job!' Answer 'only officially sonny, only officially!'...... Bril! 🤣
Peter Vaughan was an excellent presence on the screen. Little expressed or said but delivered effortless menace. His not too insignificant role as the last Targaryen alive with the Black on the wall was a great way to end his career on a high. Even then , this old age and presence lent his part a wonderful sense of a history within the Game of Thrones series.
Superb acting by the late Peter Vaughan RIP menacing and so real playing the prison daddy wonderful comedy alongside the equally talented Mr Ronnie Barker RIP they don't make em like this anymore godbless to you all involved
worth finding the Blue Peter, Porridge video on here, where John Noakes visits the set and talks to RB. Great insight into the Porridge set up, don't watch if you thought HMP Slade actually exists though. It's interesting how RB changes his voice to become Fletch, great actor.
Grouty in the 1960s...."Kray twins? I've shit 'em...'
Ronnie Barker was a genius. It didn't matter what he played. Loved him as Fletch.
Peter Vaughan terrific actor. "Remains Of The Day". RIP Cheers from the USA.
So many remember him as Grouty or Maester Aemon but not enough praise is given to him as Sir Anthony Hopkins father in that, felt so bad for him, so proud yet makes us so aware that times robs us all.
R,I,P, Peter Vaughan. A fine acter in all genres, one of my favourites.
RIP Peter Vaughan (April 4, 1923- December 6, 2016). #PeterVaughan #RIPPeterVaughan #porridge
RIP Peter - thanks for some great characters 👍
Rest in peace peter! you will be missed very greatly from porridge - game of thrones, an amazing character actor
peter vaughan was such a good actor i love how he conveyed grouty as a villain just by his mannerisms
He was fantastic as Denethor in the BBC Radio adaptation of Lord of the Rings
Grouty has escaped the surly bonds of the scrubs. RIP.Now lets sing ..' we plough the fields and scatter...' lol.
Ronnie Barker was always superb in every TV show he did. Much missed by all.
The following scene where Mr Barraclough tries to find out from Fletcher and Bunny where his bike has gone is equally classic - “are you saying that you arrived here this morning as a cyclist, but will be leaving as a pedestrian?”.
It took great talent to be as funny as Ronnie Barker, but Peter Vaughan managed it.
Just brilliant.British comedy TV at its finest.RIP Ronnie and Peter.
'What colour?' Stop it I can't take any more, giggling and laughing watching these clips 🤣👍
Classic and timeless comedy. A work of genius
"Genial" Harry Grout lol
I was watching Zulu Dawn recently, and Peter Vaughan played a quarter-master, both roles very convincing!
RIP Grouty... A kind of more threatening version of Mr Bridger from "The Italian Job".
Brilliant timing and chemistry.
Ronnie Barker . One of the greatest actors .
Rest In Peace Harry Grout
They really do not make 'em like this anymore. Wonderful comedy.
RIP Grouty.
2016 strikes again.
Grouty could even put the frighteners on the Governor !
R.I.P Peter Vaughn ❤
Wonderful Actor and the greatest screen villain ever portrayed.
Well done my son, to each and every one
5 ⭐ pure class 👍
The thing that I love is that I don't look at Fletch and think of Arkwright, they seem like two different people altogether, there are some actors who seem to play the same bloke in a different costume, but Ronnie Barker was a chameleon!
When I was a kid in the 70s I thought there were two Ronnie Barkers, the one in Open All Hours and the one in Porridge
A ferret I ain't brilliant line brilliant script awesome show
I can’t think of any role Peter played when he didn’t display the finest acting and create a key character
Peter Vaughan was so underrated. Phenomenally good actor.
he was only in three episodes apparently - RIP Grouty
Yes but shows how good both the actor and writing was as everyone remembers genial Harry Grout
@@dlamiss Dead right, I amazed to learn Grouty was only in 3 episodes . All the acting in porridge was first class, completely believable characters.
Grouty actually thinks he’d be doing Fletch a favour by smashing up his knee!
"Oh, certainly. What colour?" HAHAHA.
Certainly! What colour?
We plough the fields and scatter . Nymphs and sheperds gone away !
Frank Sinatra liked Peter Vaughan and had him co-star with him in a film he made in the UK.
Grouty could put the frighteners on any body .
Brilliant comedy 👏.
GROUTY COULD EVEN PUT THE FRIGHTENERS ON THE GOVERNOR :
Great acting .
"Where's your loins Fletch?"
peter vaughan what an actor sad loss
Good ol Grouty, to this day i consider the episode of the Prison boxing match as the funniest thing I have ever watched. Godber was in training for it, Grouty had the winners already picked, and Fletch had to sort it out.
It bothered me for years that genial Harry Grout and mister McKay couldn't really exist in the same prison.
It occurred to me last night, that Grouty must have done a 'deal'.
He was going down, but grassed someone up, a big character, in exchange for some domestic comforts.
Don’t let me catch you. I won’t.
Grouty :(
Grouty reminds me so much of Keir Starmer.
RIP Grouty
Just doing a ten in that big cell in the sky . Reduced to three months on appeal !
It's the eyes
Egg? Is that you
The perfect Sir Harry King has gone and died.. What a shame, he would have been brilliant!
Peter Vaugh also played a very sinister Long John Silver in a TV series. Like Grouty, he came across as so "genial" but there was evil just under the skin.
Also RB . The rhyming slang sermon .
Beyond medical dispute.
I remember watching all Porridge episodes on UA-cam for free. Now you've got to pay for it 😡
Peter Vaughan: the only actor capable of stealing scenes from Ronnie Barker 💪👏👏👏
classic stuff
Harris what did Mackay just do to you
Grouty is terrifying ngl.
Check out RB . Drunk wedding speech !
Genial
Porridge , only fools and horses and open all hours
That’s Gregor Fisher’s Father in law
Carol Hawkins
One problem I’ve always had with Porridge is whenever Harry Grout forces Fletcher to do something that could get him in trouble, why doesn’t he just report Grout to Mr MacKay?
Because Grouty is really the defacto ruler of the prison, and could bring it to his knees if he chose to. Even the governor is fine with leaving him alone and letting him get on with what he wants to.
Did Peter Vaughan ever look young?
Always looked sinister , but must of been different in real life .
Harry Grout wing ?
Grouty for PM
Farewell big man, sort them out in heaven.
Aemond
Shirt and tie in prison.. brits lol
I’ve got my 28 year old son onto Porridge. When I showed him a clip of The Two Ronnies, he was amazed that Fletch wasn’t Ronnie Barker’s real accent. Goes to show how great he was.
