FOTN - all the music was written by Wright, Wright, Petit and Yates. McCoy left and started Nefilim with different musicians, BUT he was in control of the musical direction, which he wasn't when in FOTN. He actually joined an existing band (named The Mission) in 1984 - so an existing band dynamic. Zoon is great, but it was never going to be a FOTN album, so I'm not sure its a case of an artist changing their sound. More a case of an artist changing his entire band and direction at the same time. Interesting video though. Thanks for posting.
Although saw FOTN many, many times in the past (and in the recent years too of course... saw them in Manchester, England back on the 16 Dec) I only ever saw Nefilim the once at a club in Bradford, England in the 90's. As the vid states the album wasn't out so we had NO idea what to expect... wrongly assuming a Nephs Part 2 kind if sound. So we're down the front as always and we are totally curve balled as a 'standard' looking McCoy with hat n boot n flour proceeds to blast us with his hired guns with full on death metal. To say the - mainly - goth crowd were stunned is an understatement. However, my mate after maybe the third song heckles McCoy in his his best Beavis & Butthead impression (he did an uncanny Butthead to be fair) yelling "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS CRAP???" causing McCoy and the two guitarists to laugh! It made the crowd laugh too and the ice was broken a little and the frosty stand off eased and a few down the front started to get into it and bounce more. Classic "you had to be there" moment! Still love Zoon just as much now, superb album.
I watched this like review of new stuff, Zoon was one of my two (second) favorites albums with Carl McCoy, first was Elizium. what can i say after all these years? Its like a wine, its getting better and better by the time. Really good material, You made my evening.
How can you get your facts wrong within 20 seconds, making me pause and hesitate, puzzling if this is gonna be worth his 14 minutes...? Debut album Dawnrazor was in 1987 (not 1988) and before that they had a Burning the Fields EP (1985), followed by some singles (like the non-album single Preacher man you are opening with), already laying down their sound and image... Let's get through with this, but please... I hope you get the facts right...
Zoon is a Superb album as are the Rest of F O T N albums .. love there Music .. Along with Joy Division & Sisters of Mercy they're the Cream of Music . Superb music that won't be Equalled !!
You can tell that this video was made by a dolt (me) who didn’t know what he was doing. No, I didn’t know that when I initially made this video. I do appreciate actual fans to fill in these blanks I imbecilely didn’t know at the time. Might as well state after almost two years that I don’t look back at this video fondly. Both from a research and a presentation stance. It’s motivated me to do better with future videos.
To be fair it's retroactively considered a FOTN album. Fields has really always been Carl, as good as Petit is aside. They play Nefilim songs live as Fields.
@@Nephilim2001 I agree, the more I think about it it’s not really. Maybe thrashy and groove ladened. Honestly this video has a lot of issues looking back at it.
@@boneheadedtunes5419 Brother, what this band is like, or was like for you is yours alone to interpret. I'm not here to correct you. I stand with you. As a companion along a music journey that can never be wrong. Keep your video. Unedited and raw. As a testament to your ever changing self.
I have some problems with your argument that Carl changed "his" sound. FotN's sound is very very very much due to the unique individual style of each member, including but nowhere near limited to Carl. The Nefilim is really another separate band from FotN Also, Zoon is far from being dethmetal, it's more akin to trash really. Gothrockers might think it's the same shit, but their difference is big as if I would say that glam rock and goth rock is the same, or comparing Duran Duran to The Cure. Anyway, it's an amazingly great album, better than anything the new FotN has done since and I'd personally say it's better than Dawnrazor too. Only The Nephilim and Elizium surpass this one in my worthless opinion.
Type O Neg and Nefilim videos... I gotta subscribe based on that alone. Awesome channel.
Absolutely one of the finest evolutions in music. Carl is a legend.

You do realize Dawnrazor was released in 1987 and was preceded by the Burning the Fields EP?
Also Chaocracy was released on Deafening Divinities….

Wouldn't call it death metal though.
