I had already had the issues repaired the mechanic was trying to scare the customer with. Basic common issues stuff. Love your videos I have to come see you some day.
As a small business owner I always like seeing how other people deal with the bullshit side of things. You did what anyone should do and went above and beyond to take care of the customer. No matter what industry you're in, going above and beyond for the noisy clients pays off in dividends because of how hard negative reviews can hit. 100 positive(or normal/average) experiences will yield a handful of reviews(at best) but pretty much any negative experience will yield a negative review which hits so hard in the Google age. I think we're all guilty of being quick to hate a place but slow to love it.
Thus is the bad thing about this day in age. You can be 110% in the right and have all the accompanying paperwork and still get your name dragged through the mud. Good job on turning a negative into a positive Craig 👍
Dude, you are a good used car sales man. When i bought my first car at the age of 19, the suckers sold me a "fully Certfied" corolla with completely rotted break lines. I damn near had a collision on the highway on my way back home. Since the shop was 400km away, and since I was an idiot, I never followed up with the dealer. I just paid out of pocket to fix the car. I remember paying 500 dollat extra for that "full Certification".
You are super kind, I would have said to the customer, "You chose to buy it "as is" for a discount and you agreed you were responsible for getting it inspected/fix any issues. I'm willing to work with you, if you pay me the asking price(difference), I can fix the real issues (not subframe still showing them the holes are normal and ok) and I will get it inspected for you." We all make choices customers have to take some responsibility for theirs. They are trying to double dip, get the discount, and then say boohoo it needs money spent on it, yea the money you saved on the discount + mechanics upselling them! Maybe in the future you should refrain from selling anything uninspected to the public(make it company policy), this would avoid this whole can of worms. Explain this story to anyone who argues and just say it's company policy, as it prevents many headaches for customers, sell it as a hassle free win for the customer!
I love your channel after "finding it" about a month ago and am very impressed with both your way of explaining things and also your business acumen. One thing I am perplexed on though, is how can a customer who buys a car "AS IS", and signs paperwork and documents saying so, feel that he or she can come back to you on anything after the sale? Just the words "AS IS" should, you know, make it clear. I understand your posture of always wanting to keep the customers happy and that's very commendable, but I have purchased things in the past, USED things, including one vehicle, and I am fully aware of the theory of "buyer beware". That's NOT a knock on you or your business; in fact quite the contrary, but in my opinion if you hedge a little on someone, word could get around that you may be an "easy mark" for chronic complainers and people just looking to be an ass. Thanks for the videos. I very much annoy them. BTW, I typed the former before I watched to the end. You're a good man.
I’ve been in sales for a long time. Customers are so worried about getting screwed and act like such paranoid conspiracy theorists that they end up screwing the sales person and usually themselves too. Sales people, while yes they’re are a few scumbags, have laws we have to follow and state licensing to acquire and we risk losing that license for not following the rules.
My god this is all so familiar , have exactly the same thing on my channel at my garage! Those that buy as is always want comeback! My contract says they need to pay the difference if they wish me to take on work post sale. The cheek of bringing it back damaged and claiming it went out that way!!
"AS IS" nuff said! I can't imagine a world where I would not tell that customer to pack sand and to make sure to tell all his friends to stay away as well. Sheeeesh! I hate liars and whinners. Bring it to your mechanic before you cut a deal, Gomer! You're a better man than me Craig. Seems the lesson learned here is: When a potential customer claims they are bringing the car to their mechanic as soon as they buy the car, tell them to take it to their mechanic before they buy it!
Wow Craig. Their Mechanic was really out to screw your customer. But one thing I know is that you are a very very honest Car Dealer and you always look after everyone. I know I could Trust what you say and do all day long. Your a good Man. Thanks Craig 😊 😊😊

Glad you were able to turn some frowns, upside down, lol. Btw, the factory holes in the subframe are created using dimple dies, to add strength and rigidity to flat or stamped sheet metal parts. But it does also save weight too. Cool and informative video, thanks.
I would have shown them the photos of the car before they bought it to prove that damage was not there. I would not have lifted a finger for them just because of that lie about the damage. You are a better man than me. I would have told them to never come back.
Part of the problem with selling 'cheap' used cars is that at these prices people are stretching their budgets and every dollar counts, so any problems are magnified out of all proportion ... especially when combined with people's nervousness about being ripped off by a Car Dealer. It also immediately skips from being a financial equation to a personal matter, because the extra costs will affect their life and cause other problems for them. It's not so bad with mid-range cars, as the deal becomes more of a financial only negotiation and any extra costs are much smaller in comparison to the overall price ... Furthermore, people assume that Dealers are making money, so that despite limited, or no warranties, they believe that they can always pass the problem back to a Dealer, whereas they can't in a private sale. People pay more to buy from a Dealer than what they have seen on private sales because they (falsely) perceive that they can always hold a Dealer responsible ... even when the Dealer has been honest and fair. Mind you, there are plenty of unscrupulous Dealers out there who tar the reputation of the majority of fair Car Dealers ...
Very true. That desperation often translates into tense situations because a financial/business transaction becomes a personal and emotional one. Many people (particularly those that have grown up without means) have the mentality that you claw for anything you can, and that any problem that you face is the result of someone else trying to screw you over or keep you down. I've bought cheap cars before, and my only expectation is that I do a thorough inspection so I don't get stuck with a major problem, and be prepared to fix anything that does go wrong.
I wouldn’t risk my inspections license on that frame. If they want someone to just slap a sticker on it- they can go find that guy, there’s plenty of them. It’s not going to be me!
I agree that the subframe was getting close to the limits of its life but everything else was nitpicking BS. When I look at any auto here in NE I try not to even look at the upper body of the car and first crawl under it to look at the rust situation. Assume that there is going to be rust. I would have probably passed on that car.
I bought a 1 year old Explorer and the headlights started being screwy and the Ford dealership discovered it had been wrecked and a headlight assembly had been "repaired" with epoxy by the dealer we bought it from. They did not want to reimburse us for the repairs but I dogged them on their Facebook page and the GM called me and sent a check.
Man my wife went while I was at work and picked out a car and told me she took it and had it looked at ( later I found out she went to a guy the dealer recommended) and they told her the car was great and bla bla bla…. Well I get home and just glance at it and it looked like a good car.. a couple weeks later I drove it for the first time and noticed it had “steam” coming from the front of the hood while it was raining so I went to a car wash and pulled in so I could look at it without getting soaked lol and noticed 3 cracks in the grill and the front bumper was off in the corner. Long story not as long, it had been wrecked. The dealer gave my wife a car fax showing it was wreck free and had great service records and made it look amazing. So now I’m stuck and don’t know what to do. If I do another carfax and it says it’s been wrecked they could just say they didn’t have the info and I’ll still be stuck with the car….
@@joshuabartley5226 That's bad for sure. In our case the Ford dealer pointed out a body part that had a date that showed the place we bought it at had made the repairs and just did a cheap fix on the led headlights that ended up being $1600. This was a vehicle over 30k and 19k miles on it and I wouldn't have been as mad if it was an old junker.
The big problem is that people nowadays just don't know what as is where is being said with with no warranty people just does not understand what that means nowadays I guess or they just choose not to
I would have certainly been sorely tempted to drop serious hints to the parents about the Son's damage in that short period, just to put them in the picture ... particularly for safety and honesty reasons, they might want to have the full facts ...
It’s sad, I bet you have a million stories of stuff just like this.. some times it’s not being a good guy and I’m sure you know the law when you can fully ignore people once they leave if you sell it “as is”
People neglect maintenance and that is what I would want to verify. Also, specific engines have specific problems. Doesn’t matter which brand. Toyota 2.4L typically excessive oil burning. 1.8L on specific years has a bad intake cam phaser. Tacoma frame rot. Maybe the car was in an accident and is getting dumped. Maybe it was a flood car…

You have to deal with the fact that in New England, customers have a LOT more rights than they do out here in Vegas. We don't have inspections and aren't obligated to make sure our cars meet any minimum safety requirements. The car could literally fall apart as it drove off the lot and I would have zero obligations. That being said, my cars are always in good shape. I don't sell anything that has ever had a branded title. It so much easier and cheaper to make the repairs before I sell the car than it is to risk having a customer come back. My reputation is worth more and brings in more customers than any advertisement.
I do not dislike used car dealers, I've had good experiences buying from dealers. I don't think they're different here in Australia than the USA? They've gotta make a living (Hopefully honestly) Love your Vlog.

@@B0xlife1 they purchased the car.... Like they didn't know they damage didn't exist. They were clearly dishonest and wanted something for nothing. Pandering these sorts of people only encourages more of it.
Those Altimas are awful for Rust I had one here in Minnesota and the floor board rotted out completely. If that one is 15 years old its an 06 and I would avoid those due to the CVT transmission to begin with. 2005 - 2010 were some of Nissans worst years and I would avoid most models. You handled this situation perfectly IMO.
Just avoid Nissan altogether lol
Buyers are liars stuck with me from my rookie year in the biz. As a dealer now you’re right and I had a local mechanic try to throw shade on my vehicles.
WTF don't people understand about "as is"? If you're that concerned, have the vehicle inspected BEFORE you sign on the dotted line... simple
Very cool that you had the pictures of the vehicle prior to sale. Good job.
I wouldn't do any business with those types of people.
Thus is the bad thing about this day in age. You can be 110% in the right and have all the accompanying paperwork and still get your name dragged through the mud. Good job on turning a negative into a positive Craig 👍
You could always be sued Americans are great at it. I would say at one point it probably was worse 30 years ago than now.
You went above and beyond. That's good business. But your customer was out of line! You're a very good man.
Craigs as always great work. Keep taking care of your clients and being a Great guy.
You're a good guy. Too nice. I like being nice, but when someone is unreasonable, I go out of my way to not be nice.
I’m really nice too 😎. Until I’m NOT! 🧐
✊🏿
If more businesses were as transparent as you this would be a better world. I appreciate the information, cya.
A vehicle should also be inspected by someone who will not try and sell you one of their own vehicles
Innocent. You did good, they accepted that it's as-is for a discount. They come back and said "hey this your fault" but it's their mechanics fault.
It is hard to make people happy when they expecting to get screwed 🤣🤣🤣
Killing them with KINDNESS!! Best way to win.🇬🇧👍
someone needs to watch ' JUDGE JUDY ' ....... " Is this your signature ?" ..... complainant : yes ...... case dismissed
Some people just know how to operate a vehicle. Not even drive: operate.
Wow! That was one stressful sale. Super cool of you
You got so many people saying 150 thousand miles isn’t that much anymore and people believe it.
Hey Craig, my father and I are starting to do a auto wholesale business! We love your videos! Thank you for the feed back & the learning experience! We appreciate it.
He’s a loser he is a hack!!!! They were ripped off like we were
You were MORE than reasonable! As I live in Concord I will recommend you to anyone looking for a reasonably priced used car.
I agree with must of the folks on here, the mechanic is the most dishonest guy in the room.
Did you end up just doing the inspection too??
Great job handling an unnecessary situation.
Gotta love customer arbitrations….😂😂😂
Glad you were able to turn some frowns, upside down, lol.
Btw, the factory holes in the subframe are created using dimple dies, to add strength and rigidity to flat or stamped sheet metal parts.
But it does also save weight too.
Cool and informative video, thanks.
I would have shown them the photos of the car before they bought it to prove that damage was not there. I would not have lifted a finger for them just because of that lie about the damage. You are a better man than me. I would have told them to never come back.
Craig is a good guy who is sometimes taken advantage of by buyers but Karma always balances things out
Word is going to get out that people can buy cars AS-IS from you and then come back screaming and get it fixed at a discount.
Within reason of course if this keeps happening he won’t keep “helping”
I hated dealing with inspections.. So glad I live in Florida.. Dealing with nys inspections with heavily modified cars was a struggle! Not anymore!
Your an honest dealer thank you for sharing
Great video and an amazing job managing a tough customer.
I absolutely could not ignore the right front damage. Somebody would have had to staple my mouth shut.
After they lied about the body damage, I would have told them to POUND SAND!!!
Once a customer of mine starts lying, I'm done!!
You wouldn't have got that sorted over here it has to be a manufacturing defect for a Warranty claim.
Thanks for being a decent human being. I don’t need a car but the next time I do you’ll be on the short list of where to purchase.
Personally, would be more than a bit steamed by their attempt to stick you with the results of accidental damage caused by their son.
Plot twist, the customer is related to the mechanic 👨🔧, lol 😂
He wanted to resell those 3 good tires
😅🤣
The big problem is that people nowadays just don't know what as is where is being said with with no warranty people just does not understand what that means nowadays I guess or they just choose not to
I died laughing at the deep voice "ROTTED FRAME" 🤣🤣 that's awesome lol
I would have certainly been sorely tempted to drop serious hints to the parents about the Son's damage in that short period, just to put them in the picture ... particularly for safety and honesty reasons, they might want to have the full facts ...
It’s sad, I bet you have a million stories of stuff just like this.. some times it’s not being a good guy and I’m sure you know the law when you can fully ignore people once they leave if you sell it “as is”
Write that mechanic a nice little Yelp review! See how that helps him beef up his commission in the future!
If I owned a dealership I’d only sell Toyota’s & Lexus’s 😂.. then I wouldn’t need a garage …
Things on Toyotas and Lexus still break, although usually doesn't not large thing like an engine or transmission replacement.
That is a fantasy.
Toyota's and Lexus's break supposedly. Though mine still never have lol.
@@PorkchopExpression yeah they are some of the most reliable cars in the world. But eventually something, like an alternator or fuel pump will go bad
That's actually kinda of funny..A used car salesman calling a mechanic a crook😂😂😂
25 years in the used car business. Never let. You inventory out of your site. It comes back with different tires. There mechanic will find problems because that is the way they. Make money.
5:29 ..... someone told me 30+ years ago .... " shit happens to you because you let it " .... YOU should NOT have discounted the car .... YOUR BAD .... and where is the signed by both parties the agreement of sale .... hold the prick to it .....
Problem 1 you bought a Nissan makes all the sense now
You have to deal with the fact that in New England, customers have a LOT more rights than they do out here in Vegas.
In VA you can't even sell a car without a current inspection as a licensed dealer.
“Ad-vertis-e” 😂😂😂😂
I live in Atlanta GA. When I need a car - I am going to get a plane ticket AND FLY UP AND BY A CAR FROM YOU !!!
I do not dislike used car dealers, I've had good experiences buying from dealers. I don't think they're different here in Australia than the USA? They've gotta make a living (Hopefully honestly) Love your Vlog.
I hate people like that. You are too humble. The car was very clean. And I bet you they nickel and dimed you all the way.
Customers wanted to return a car that was damaged on top of it. Bud, you are way too kind.
As a buyer of a "cheap" used car, it's the buyer's responsibility to purchase a car that they can afford instead of buying a car that they can BARELY afford...
We are rare, taking care of the customers are always key
It would be cool to see a pool.
1.) who is a repeat customer to the same Dealer?
2.) who buys a car based on their budget and not Dealer?
2:25. Customers are the bane of your existence.
A 3000$ buyer expects a 30000$ car and wants to bargain you down to 2000$ and then expect you to do 1500$ of repairs
Very accurate
Who’s the sales men ?🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 car salesman or the mechanic 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 people just don’t take responsibility for anything they agree to 🙄🙄🤔🙄🙄🙄🙄 great video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great video as usual . The cya is a must . You must have a good record keeping system.
You have also implied a warrant on the rest of your inventory . At least in Texas if you do it once.
I own a small gas engine repair shop. I told my customer that I am here to make money so I can feed my family. I’m sorry this is not a discount store. Remember in the business you can not pleased every one even you give them back the money for unrepairable item and He or She still want to deal with you in the court
Wait until the jatco trans take a poop a week later. 🤣🤣🤣
Oh no, an unhappy customer. "Buyers are liars"? Say it ain't so. :)
"It's not an easy gig" - OTOH, you have X number of cars, X number of boats, and getting ready to buy a vacation home. ;)
Wow that’s a bold statement to say a buyer is ripping you off and lairs because you used dealers are just so honest 😂I know as well as you do if you weren’t making a profit you would not make a deal
You are dealing with dishonest people. It is hard to have empathy and to try and help them out.
You're a better person than me. I would've gone hard on proving them wrong in cracked bumper and wheel
I had a nice laugh when our presenter said the mechanic wanted to put new front calipers on the car. Must've been a slow day when the customer brought the car in.
