@@vegasdaytripper very true and of course if they had been caught the punishment would have been fair enough. But when I take into consideration all the times casinos have changed the rules to benefit themselves, and the maaaany lives they have ruined, I find it hard to feel sorry for them losing out just this once
Not gonna lie. This was absolutely genius. The whole playback to cover the others losses was the genius part of gaining credit on the markers. That along with the casino greed. This was probably the most genius one I’ve ever heard of.
I just happened on this channel yesterday and I’ve been BINGING. great stuff, no fluff. This heist was probably the coolest one yet, and the fact that these anonymous dudes are still out there with their “winnings” somewhere is pretty sweet. The house was well and truly outsmarted with this one.
@@TILT223I subbed because I didn't realize you weren't up there yet. @@TILT223 I fkin love your content mate. High production, informative and well narrated. Keep up the good work. This channel will get big. And I’m so glad to be here on the ground floor.
@TILT223 💯. I feel like there are a lot of stories that casinos pay to hide or make 'go away'. Like you can't find a SINGLE story on Google about casinos cheating players. I find that quite suspect.
Still cracks me up when people say the y2k scare was unfounded. I was in the military at the time and remember y2k patches coming out almost every week. And if the military was finding stuff you can bet the civilian sector was. Don't get me wrong, I doubt EVERYTHING would have bugged. However, as we seen recently it only takes one or two glitches to grind everything to a halt in some industries.
@@poindextertunes Well, Y2K most definitely would have ground everything to a halt. So, the media did get that part right. The sensationalized part was that they kept that fear going long past the point where it became clear we were going to be able to fix almost everything in time.
The only part of this that doesn't ring true for me is their betting patterns. If you have one person at a craps table betting big on the Pass, and another person at the other end making the same bet on the Don't, it doesn't take a genius pit boss to see what's going on. Even easier to spot at a Baccarat table, if one person is betting $100k on Player, and another person at the same table is betting $100k on Bank. This little trick has been tried even by low rollers, in an attempt to gain high player-card status, or good mailer offers, comps, etc with little-to-no risk to their bankroll. The casinos don't like it.
Hi Tilt, great video again. I think you may be able to help your sub count by putting in a small call to action after the intro and before the story. Give new viewers a brief synopsis of your channel and if they like the content sub for more. Keep up the great vids!
So is there no idea 24 years later who was actually behind this caper? What a long play, most criminals don’t have tge patience or vigilance, and using hackers for identity theft in 1991 was incredible foresight. Watching this channel really gets me rooting for these conmen cuz they’re stealing from the second biggest crooks in the world(you know, after the government).
Correction on the beginning, the bug was not entirely unfounded. It was worked on and fixed ahead of time. Had they done nothing, things would not go well.
What I’m not understanding is how did they cash it all out at the end? If I have 500k of credit at a casino and ask for 500k of chips to play on credit, why would they just let me cash it out for 500k in cash (after betting a few hands and breaking even) at the end of the night?
You know, I'd love to be able to answer that but with it happening at a time where there wasn't widespread internet coverage and the casinos wanting to forget about it - its hard to say.
What makes this so delicious is that the casinos' own unscrupulous greed and inhumanity is what created the vulnerability. Had they been less eager to exploit wealthy whales with gambling addictions, this scheme could not have worked-at least not to the $37M extent it did.

It's nice to hear one of these stories where the house didn't win in the end 😂 great stuff as always
Eh. But what they did was a straight up crime, not finding some advantage play that turned the tables on the casinos.

Yep. The casinos wouldn't find them. There's just 2 fresh patches of dirt out in the desert now to commemorate them not being found.

Patience, sticking to the plan no matter what, and no going back "just one more time". That's why they were successful and most criminals aren't.
I got an online gambling ad while watching this, lol
reminds me of the con Jake Green pulls in the movie Revolver (2005)

Poor casinos

The work on that is truly an embodiment of the phrase from Futurama, "when you do things right, no one will be sure you did anything at all."
SWEET!
Absolutely love it when casinos lose money. Sad , but I don’t care how they lose as long as they do. Long live the human spirit.
