The reverse/unpredictable scrolling maybe made me the maddest I have ever been with a piece of hardware. Thank you for finding this fix and posting this video.
Holly shit! It works! You would not believe the amount of thrash that came out and the mouse is flawless now! No need to disassemble and brake tabs etc. THAAAAANKKKKK YOUUUU!!
It worked for me for a while but the problem came back, this time i used eletronic contact cleaner spray, i sprayed on the circuit board around the scroll, fliped the mouse upside down and sprayed inside that silver piece holding the sensor, it solved the problem 100% here, the scroll is perfect now.
It worked. When I watched your video I didn't think that the most difficult part of it all would be to actually make such a thin piece of paper. :)) Thanks.
@@ZenithVal_ exactly as it's shown in the video. Additionally, once I placed the piece of paper in the hole, I folded it around the edges to not push it out when inserting the scroll wheel (not sure if folded is the right word, but hopefully you understand what I mean). Anyway, this created more pressure on the piece of plastic on the scroll wheel so after 1+ years of using it like that the plastic broke. I was just thinking the other day to buy a new scroll wheel from aliexpress, because the mouse is still good otherwise.
It worked wonderfully. I used a small piece of paper about 1mm wide and the annoying random skipping problem was solved. If you push the sensor all the way on to the small plastic piece that goes over wheel it will make it a little stiffer when scrolling, Just Leave a small gap between them and it will be perfect.
Dude thank you, my scrolling was so stiff after assembling it back together. It works perfectly after loosening that plastic part and leaving a gap. Time to get some new mouse feet instead of an entire new mouse :D
I had a different problem with the scroll wheel, the transparent part broke, you can use some transparent poxipol or any plastic welding materials, regardless this video was still usefull for the disassembly. Thanks!
I was exceptical at first.. I stopped using my mouse over a year ago for this same reason. The mouse is almost brand new, barely used and today I finally decided to try this (after no attempts of fixing the mouse via Software) and it worked! Thank you very much!!
An actual American hero, thank you good sir. For anyone who does this, it is very straightforward, if you want your mouse to scroll stiffer use a slightly bigger piece from a roll of tape. If you want smoother, easier scrolling use a smaller piece from a roll of tape.
The permanent solution will be replacing the TCC 9mm encoder that you can buy on eBay for $1.50. However, you have to wait for about 2-3 months because they're shipped form China or Hongkong. In addition, if you don't know soldering, then it's not a good way to fix the problem. Putting a piece of small paper works, but it' has a drawback. If you look carefully, the tiny hexagonal wheel shaft tightly fits the hex hole of the TTC encoder. If you put a piece a paper, the wheel won't move smoothly. Further, the wheel eventually stops working again, and you will need to replace the entire wheel. Here is my solution. If you know soldering, go to eBay and buy two TTC 9mm encoders for $2.50. While waiting for the encoders, use DeoxIT D5 lubricant and spray on the encoder. Remember to put a napkin under the encoder to avoid the lubricant flowing to the mouse's main board. Since the gaps of the encoder are really small, we need to spray the D5 lubricant several times and wait for about 10 minutes or longer for the D5 to dissolve the oxidation inside the necoder. The second step is to add silicon grease to the hex hole of the encoder. Again, since the hole is really small, we only need to add a little drop of the silicon grease. Finally, reassemble all parts, and the G403 is again working like a champ. We may not need to replace the encoder. Just keep them. Final advice: use DeoxIT D5 and silicon grease only. Do not use other lubricants or machine oil. They don't work.
Pretty accurate and that's exactly the point. Putting a small piece of paper it mall be help but not fix the real problem. The real problem is the encoder that has a real short life. Save some money buyng a real good mouse.
I'm not bullshitting. Halfway through this video, when he adjusts the mouse wheel scroll censor, my broken mouse wheel scroll (broken for a week) started working!!! I'm creeped out.
Great fix. I tried it a couple of months ago. It fixed the issue completely. However! It puts an extra stress on the plastic pin from the mousewheel. It broke off, now its game over. Had this mouse for about a year. Stay away from these products!
My scroll started to do a weird sound, after a couple minutes trying to fix scrolling around XD it stopped working. I watched your video and did the same procedure, now my scroll is working again. Thanks man, you saved a mouse today!
I used this fix before and it did work for a few months until last week I was cleaning the mouse and apparently the paper inside went loose or something - so I went to fix the mouse again, thinking it was going to be easy... I don't really remember how I fixed it so easily last time, but I've been for 3 days trying with multiple pieces of paper of different sizes, foldings, etc and the scroll will be stiff in the first few seconds and then will be loose again (basically it won't have any resistance again), even with the piece of paper inside. Does anyone have some tips? I'm using some random low budget mouse because I still need to work, but for gaming this sucks
didn't work for me, at least before my middle click was fine but now its stiff as hell and the scroll still doesn't work. I have no idea if I followed the guide correctly as I have't got a clue what's going on for half of it
My G403 has an issue where it intermittently scrolls in the wrong direction. Is this the problem addressed by this video? It's hard to know because there's no narration.
Hey, I know it's a little late but if you have the time it'd be really helpful if you would remake this with commentary, I'm just fearful I might breach the warranty whilst breaking it even more. Nevertheless, helpful video, but too scared to try it any time soon.
Good fix. G403 scroll was wonking. After applying a small amount of masking tape it works now. Must be the amount of pressure the extra tape is exerting. Was looking at it while spinning the wheel and it looked loose. Depending on the thickness of the tape, it could make the scroll wheel stiffer when you scroll. This makes it rub against the right side of the plastic the wheel sits on cause the pin is suppose to fit through the scroll sensor hole. So use a small amount that just makes it snug enough but allow the pin to fit through.
It’s not permanent fix. For permanent fix you need to replace the sensor. It’s relatively easy. Only 3 pin cable to desolder and solder. I have a link in the other video. I bought that and replaced it. It works great.
Also, my sensor is going to take a month to get here so I'm going to use this until then. Did you put the tape around the axle or just on top of it in the sensor hole?
