Vancouver Best Eats! - House of Dosas

- The House of Dosas is at the corner of Kingsway and Knight, and every Monday they offer what has to be the best lunch deal in town: every dosa is $5.99! There's been a variety of South Indian operators at this location over the last 30 years, but the current purveyors appear to have hit on a winning formula. It's great to be able to find a good, authentic dosa that is almost as inexpensive as it would be in South India!
Open 24/7, licensed, takes all the cards and cash.

They also have a White Rock and a Davie St location but we haven't been to either.
This is my hood in the 70s. My spouse and I came here for our first dosa and had no clue on how to eat it.
Thanks Laurel and Rob for the lesson on how to eat them.
We will certainly try them on Mondays.
You’re welcome! And we applaud your spirit of adventure. Not everyone will go to an unfamiliar restaurant and order something “alien”. Well done! 👍
So glad you’re doing a review here. It was a regular haunt of mine. Such a good kitchen and even the regular prices are very fair for the quality.
Thanks for your comment. It’s been one of our favourite haunts as well, even through all its ups and downs over the years.
Great recommendation. Thanks for all the videos you've made. They are appreciated!
I loved hearing the crosswalk coo-coo at the end. Takes you right back to the 'hood.
👍
Glad you like them! We’re always a little tickled when we hear from people who appreciate our strange little hobby! That’s nice to hear.
As for the crosswalk sound, it’s incredible that you can hear anything! That has to be the noisiest truck route corner in the city! 😉
@Global_Feast I just shared this video on FB and my brother answered. He explained why you're strangely advanced 😉 in your tastes. Who knew such a local connection could lead us worlds away.
@@boxvango9021 ha ha! I think we’re just plain strange… 😉
@Global_Feast or playin' strange... 😂
OMG! I’ve seen the South Surrey (White Rock) location on 152 Street two or three blocks from where I live. I didn’t connect it to The House of Dosa at Knight and Kingsway. It’s been on my list to try for years. I’ll have to make trying it a special occasion and break my keto diet one of these days. Thank you 🎉
@@annettenicholls9174 try the infamous Chicken 65 if you want to stay more in the keto lane. 😉. Let us know what you think!
@ Thank you so much for that suggestion. 🤩 I’ll check it. My daughter and I are going out for her 36th birthday.
@@annettenicholls9174 wish your daughter a happy birthday from us, and have fun!
There is another dosa place on the same block a little west of this that used to be located on the corner exactly where this place is, and they are very good. Worth checking out to compare.
We went there just after it opened many years back, but definitely should try another visit soon. Thanks for your comment!
In Mid 90’s they were in Fraser street .
Thanks for that! Never went there in the 90s
Thanks for introducing a dish I don't know at all . Yay , happy fists shaking ...forever young .
You are so welcome! There’s a lot of South Indian food that doesn’t get as much love as the Northern staples such as butter chicken and tikka masala. Even then, the food cooked in homes is a notch above!
@@Global_Feast I have tried indian chicken turning red from spices . The indians are masters in enhancing with spices the taste of the dishes .
Got that right!
When I think of dosa and parathas, I think of the House of Dosas.
Are you sure you’re not the guy in the Dos Equis commercial? 😂. “I don’t always eat dosa, but when I do…”
lol of course not
My hood ! Kingsway and knight rd.
East Van! 🤘
@@Global_Feast yup you were steps away from the chuch I was baptized in st Margaret's Anglican. Haven't been in one since.lol
I hate that same here in kelowna you ask for spicy and you can't even barely taste spicey its so annoying. They have no set quantity of spice for every level of spicyness it's random and not consistent in a restraunt
Well the bad news is that there’s no scientific scale adopted by restaurants to ensure uniformity, BUT.. there are at least two places in Kelowna where you can get a decent dosa, and that’s something to be thankful for! 😉❤️
You get a bigger dosa and a desert for a buck more at the Dosa Factory a half block down. Apparently almost all House of Dosa staff quit over pay and conditions a few years back and started up their own place.
As we mentioned, this location has had several changes in ownership and/or management over the last 30 years, and we believe that the current team was not involved in that “labour dispute”, 30 years ago it was hard to find a good dosa in vancouver (remember the Noor Mahal on Fraser?), and now they’re springing up like mushrooms!
