dry sump, according to the manual, fill 1 liter, close the oil cap. let it idle few minutes, shut down the engine, fill the other 1 liter. close the oil cap. let it idle few minutes. on the right side behind the rearbrake lever there is a nut, set the bike straight and level and open that bolt. too much oil will drain, if non comes out then its too less, if its level with the hole, it is correct. then close it and check the upper level with the dipstick. ride it and check the lower and upper again. if the lower level changes then there is an oil valve or pump issue. the lower oil level stays the same, even when the engine runs, the upper oil tank compensates with that.
Thanks for upload , I was always told car engine oil doesn't work in bikes due to bikes having same oil for clutch where as a car has separate gearbox oil something to do with causing bike clutches to slip ,guess that was wrong , your bike seem fine on road with no clutch slipping
I was told that car oil contains friction modifiers to help with efficiency. that’s obviously not good on a bike where the clutch and engine share the oil.
venia andando con mi honda nx 650 la pare y no arranco mas si alguien sabe que puede ser me avisa aca donde vivo no hay mecanicos buenos y no se que hacer
cat vs dog Thanks for the reply. I already have and FMX and that's definitely a roadbike. The only problem is the low performance compared to an old NX650 or XR650L with the same engine (I found out that FMX has the same engine as the XR650L). There are high compression performance pistons available on the market. That thing with an open exhaust system and a rejetted carb will make my first wheel fly. (Who seeks even more, can buy stage 1 or 2 "hot cam" camshaft in the USA, but it has really high price..)
@@MuddyBob650 Um as a Honda mechanic also, they both use the same cam, and rest of the running gear. you maybe confusing gearing, tyre diameter, smog equip etc. the FMX has a smaller rear hoop, which means off the line acceleration is better, (17 vs 18 inch) I've not seen an XR650L with a greater torque curve on the Dyno than an FMX? And how are you measuring RPM as neither has a rev gauge! And the XR650R is a totally different water-cooled engine, so no parts are compatible... And if you are in the US, they were never sold there, so don't know the loads of FMX's you've dealt with!
@@reaver69 At the time of posting that I was completely misinformed. It's been 6 years haha I don't even remember this. However, your statement is completely accurate and I shall be deleting my previous comment. Cheers man
@@MuddyBob650 No worries bud 😁 It's a strange one with the old 650 engine, its probably the most talked about mythical old beast out there! its older than God himself (maybe) 😂 I have seen so much conflicting info on Dommies, SLR's, XL's FMX's etc which all use the same engine and its only when you look at the part numbers on rebuilds that actually, they are identical. Honda mass produce, so no sense in doing something special unless you are going to sell it as such... Take care
WTF Please tell me the seller didn't say it was recently serviced !! Secondly, I couldn't get a manual either. I ended up paying a fortune for a proper Honda Manual. Haynes, where were you?
Joe Page you do realise he points out that he has 5ltrs, and has marked it just under the 3ltr mark, and that when he empties it it empties from the top of the drum not the bottom? Meaning just under 3ltrs are left in the drum, and by now i hope you guessed that means he has used just over 2 ltrs. I thought this video was rather helpful and i would personally give him credit for it. But at the same time i'm not going to slate you for making a mistake as people in the internet like to do, i am only pointing it out to those who don't see it.
i've been looking everywhere to find where the drain plugs are. nothing on forums or videos. your an absoloute life saver
Thank you for this, just bought fmx. 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing, I just bought an fmx and didn't know how to do the oil change. Greetings from Costa Rica
REALLY makes me miss my DR650! Well done and great bike!

Thank you! :)
Buen vídeo!✌🔝
Thank you!
Very helpful thanks very much for the vid
Its the same motor as the dominator 650 . You might find something on that on you tube

you forgot to clean the oil screen in the right crankcase
have you still got the bike?
Which exhaust do you have?

is the FMX engine same as the XR650L or can I interchange parts with an XR650R engine too??
(for example: high compression piston)

Very helpful video but you mention it takes 2.15L of oil but put nearly 3L in it, no wonder you had to drain some out!
+Joe Page remember that the oil resivor is actually in the fraim and it takes a lot to fill that up Plus the big ass crank case.
