You forgot to mention to keep your eye on the water level as you are removing lots of water from your pool in 'waste' mode. Especially true for those pools with a fixed wall skimmer. The water level should be midway up the skimmer. People should remember toi add 2 inches of water before vacuuming to waste. I write this for all the new pool owners who have no idea about this stuff.
Do you find your pool sways? I have the Coleman version of this pool and it sways. Not dramatically but enough you can feel it and if you stare at it just right you can see the slight movement. It makes me soooo nervous and quite honestly is taking the fun out of owning it.
Thanks for the great video!! I was really hoping to see see exactly what the vacuum hose was connected to. Brand new pool owner here and don’t know a thing about anything. I had purchased the same exact vacuum head awhile back but don’t know what to connect it to
Thanks for the video. Having the same problem. I have a smaller pool so I may try garden hose first. Seems like a lot more water will need to be replaced with the pool hose.
Thanks for the video, I actually pulled a suction on the hose connected directly to the vacuum and dumped the waste into the grass without the need of going through the system. My pool had a lot of thick waste 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great video. Thank you for sharing and demonstrating. Also, to anyone spending the $2-300's on an automatic robotic vacuum, in case they aren't aware, the robotic vacuums will not pick up fine debris, so they do not clean out the dead algae....it passes right back thru...
I am now learning about the art of balancing water. Lol! It’s tricky but I got it! Do you always leave your backwash hose attached to your filter? I wasn’t sure if it was a good practice because no one is mentioning this in their videos and I am tired of attaching and reattaching the hose. I appreciate your informative video!!!!!Thank you!
Hey you know what. The adaptor you screw o the outlet strainer grid and connected the skimmer hose on it. The light blue thing that’s connected with your skimmer, you can just remove the hose from the wall and you will have a plastic round part and on that part you can attach the vacuum hose. No need for pulling hose over the wall.
I just have one question - we have basically the same pump, I think ours is the intex 16 inch sand filter. I can’t tell where you connected the vacuum hose to get it connected to the pump? We have been dealing with a “dead” (but always ready to bloom at the first opportunity) algae issue all summer that we cannot get rid of! There’s no bag that will filter that crud out. If you have any details about that I’d love to know! Thank you so much for making this video, it helped me figure out most of what I need!
I use the white hose adapter, which I will post below this comment. All I do is plug it in one of the inlet holes in a cover, the other Hole with the black plug that comes with the pool. 👍🏼 www.amazon.com/dp/B093CG9C52/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_93CN1SDE7JG81C3P4234?linkCode=ml2&tag=llonate-20

We had a huge alge problem, the best way we could fix it without wasting water was sewing several thick cotton sheets together to make a sort if hamper bag, we placed it inside a basket, sat the basket over a wooden board over the ladder inside the pool and we hung a $50 sump pump in different areas of the pool. We would mix the water the first week and then focus on certain areas. Once the water would over flow it was time to let it drain, rinse out the bag outside the pool throw it in the washer and repeat. Beware of large amounts of smelly sludge. I have a paper filter and from what I can tell their is no waste option. We got our pool with the house and I am seriously losing my mind with it. It went green over night and I cannot get it clear now. The algae is dead but I can get it all out. The filter can't keep up and I'm rinsing it everyday (twice when I can) and vacuuming regularly and still cloudy. We have clarified, algaecided, double shocked and it's balanced. Thanks for the video. One question, I see one end of the blue hose attached to the brush head… where is the other end attached? I thought it was supposed to attach to one of the inlet ports but it’s a white hose & the blue hose is going over the side…
Do you have a video of how to actually hook up the vacuum? I borrowed one from a friend but they didn’t know how to use it and didn’t give me the instructions with it
Yeah, it’s super easy. One part is the hook up your pole. Your hose goes on the top part in the other end of a hose goes to one of your Inlet holes. If your section isn’t very strong, cover the other Hole with the plug.
Where does the other end of the hose attach to so that it will suck out the water I bought the same vacuum head but I can’t figure out where to attach the other end
I have one of those basic best way pumps that doesn’t have that lever. Do you know how to do the waste setting (or something similar) for those when using a pool vacuum?
@@LifeLessOrdinary thanks so much. I was at a pool shop today and they told me it couldn't be done. I just ordered a hose and vacuum from Walmart so I will check my local store or Amazon Canada for that adapter
Hi, I’m in a mess. What if you only have the standard pool filter pump. How do you go about getting the dust out. I bought the same brush as you I just didn’t pay attention to you hooking it to anything.
Look at the 2:25 point in the video I explain. Use the white adapter on the end of the hose and put it into one of the inlet hose that the water goes into. Now to get better suction you need to close the other inlet with a plug. 👍🏼
Thank you, this video helped us. I have 2 question...Did you add clarifier after you vacuumed to waste? ....I added water to my pool after I vacuumed to waste, should I shock my pool since I added water?
You have to watch my newest video it explains everything. Basically I had a cloudy issue after this video but now it’s super clear. And yes you can shock it after the water.
@@LifeLessOrdinary thank you, yes I watched both videos last night. I had floc and started the process. This morning it already looked 100 times better. We vacuumed to waste. I had been struggling to clear up our pool, I can see the bottom now. 👍👍👍
@@LifeLessOrdinary shock and water clarifier is not the same. Clarifier makes the coudy water clean by clinging to the small particulars and dropping then to the bottom of the pool to be vacuum. Shock sometimes has clarifier in it but not even close to actually pure clarifier.
So, I am some what confused. In this video, are you just showing us how it would work because I see the blue hose inside the pool and the other end outside but not connected to anything?? Or what should it be connected to?
Watch it again starting at 2:26 second mark of the video. One end of the hose goes to the vacuum head. The other end goes into the 9” white hose adapter which then goes into one of the inlet holes on the inside of the pool. Make sure your cover the other inlet hole for better suction. Key is you need a sand filter type pump not a cartridge type filter.
You can pull stuff into the cartridge just make sure you pull it out and spray it off frequently while vacuuming or it will spit back into the pool. 👍🏼
I will be very honest I don’t have any chemicals other than chlorine tablets to my pool. I normally vacuum multiple times a week and backwash every few days.
Will this work for a thick amount of algae, dead algae that is settled from the bottom of the pool? We are currently using a water hose to siphon, but it takes forever. We bought a vacuum, but it moves too fast and just stars of all the algae, anybody have any tips for this?
I use this white hose adapter, which I will link below. I put it into one of the inlet holes and then the hose. And I also cover the other Hole with one of the small plugs that come with the pool for better section. www.amazon.com/dp/B093CG9C52/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_93CN1SDE7JG81C3P4234?linkCode=ml2&tag=llonate-20
Okay, so my question is, why doesn't my sand filter suck strong enough to even pull small bugs down to the filter? What am I doing wrong with this filter? For 2 years, it's never had a great suction. Someone told me to switch out the sand filter with a smaller filter. My skimmer barest doesn't even have a good suction like yours.
How old is it? 2 years ago I took mine apart and discovered lots of trash on the top part of the filter which was killing my suction. How often do you backwash?
Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve been searching for years and ran up on this today!! Excellent video. I’ll be subscribing and watching the rest of your videos. I give this a 100%!!
What settings do you vaccum the pool on everytime I vaccum the dirty water comes out the the main spout right back into my pool,so vacuuming is pointless.
@@LifeLessOrdinary yes I have sand filter pump, I just vacuumed the pool nothing came back into the pool, but lost alot of water..Now I'm filling the pool back up
Connect it to one of the inlet holes, my pool has two. Then cover the other one to make the suction stronger. Put your sand filter on waste and turn on pump
Hi , My first time cleaning my pool. Already put shock, chlorinating liquid and also put 3 chlorine tablets in the floater thing. How can I backwash my pool with the DE filter? Thanks
I really need to do this bc my robot vacuum keeps bringing up a lot of dirt (or something like it) And I can’t seem to get my Ph/alkalinity down bc of this. My problem is I can’t see the bottom bc of the cloudiness of the water. It’s blue but cloudy so I can’t see what I’m vacuuming. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. 🙏🏽
I don't understand how to do this if you have an automatic vacuum not a hand vacuum. I hooked it up to the skimmer basket outlet and the vacuum does nothing.
No unfortunately it’s not, Backwash only cleans out your sand. If you need to get some junk out of the pool and you don’t want it to go through the filter, you’ll have to get a hose and create a siphon which will go up and over and out of the pool.
@@LifeLessOrdinary I watched another video where someone hooked their hose up to one of the intakes and then vacuumed on the “filtration” setting and then they backwash and rinse. I want to try it but I’m a little scared lol
@ljones42089 the only problem with using the filter option is if you have a lot of fine sand and dust the filter normally will push it right back into the pool. But if you don’t have that much that you’re trying to vacuum, I’m sure the filter will work just fine.
@@LifeLessOrdinary I’m more wanting it for that stubborn algae you can’t fully get off the bottom of the pool. I bought an expensive pool blaster vacuum and last time I had some algae it just sprays back up and makes my water murky.
I don’t lose as much as you would think. But thankfully I have a water well and most people don’t understand that. By doing it this way it kicks all of the dirt and debris completely out of the filter system and into the yard
I have question. We removed dead algae settling to bottom but again it keeping coming back every week. We have double shock then clears out. We have Intex 2500GPH filter motor. It won't pull out all dead algae or debris even after running for 8 hours. We have couple trees near by so leaves fall in the pool. Whenever you shock and add algae killer does to always settles yo bottom or it will get pulled out by Motor. Even if motor pulls micro algae debris comes in to pool by inlet. We tried to vaccum settled algae but we have to spend 1-2 hour / week. We do how much we can. Now it's just headache. I didn't see same problem with my friend who has hard steel covered pool, they also have trees near by. There motor is powerful. We can't use same motor as pulse the walls if it's stronger. Any solution
I can seem to show pictures on this but we don’t have the skimmer thing. If we disconnect the pump intakes then the pool will drain halfway down. So how do I connect the vacuum to the pump?
I’m not understanding what you’re saying. What type of pump and filter do you have. If you have a sand filter all you have to do is use one of the inlets for your vacuum and cover the other side
@@LifeLessOrdinary if I disconnect the inlets at the side the pool will want to drain out. We don’t have the skimmer thing on the side like you used. We were looking last night and decided to get one, so hopefully problem solved. Thanks for answering. And it is a sand filter.
My algae is like super glue stuck on there, help, I also don’t have a hose that will connect to the inlet to the pump. I have an Intex pump My pool has 2 inlets to the pump, do I need to occlude one while I use this brush vacuum thing on the other?

@@LifeLessOrdinary gracias!!
Great review, thanks for sharing
Thanks Jeff
So, I am some what confused. In this video, are you just showing us how it would work because I see the blue hose inside the pool and the other end outside but not connected to anything?? Or what should it be connected to?
Watch it again starting at 2:26 second mark of the video. One end of the hose goes to the vacuum head. The other end goes into the 9” white hose adapter which then goes into one of the inlet holes on the inside of the pool. Make sure your cover the other inlet hole for better suction. Key is you need a sand filter type pump not a cartridge type filter.
Where is the link for this vacuum and hose
Hit the little down arrow under the video. I posted the links in the video description
How do you vacuum to waste now that you added a H skimmer?
My sand filter doesn’t have a vacuum to waste port, I’m going to try this with the cheap cartridge filter pump the pool came with
You can pull stuff into the cartridge just make sure you pull it out and spray it off frequently while vacuuming or it will spit back into the pool. 👍🏼
@@LifeLessOrdinary thanks I will keep that in mind 😊
Hello, sis you turn off the pump while vacuuming? Because once you set it to waste it will reduce water level quick and a lot
What chemicals do you add after you vacuum to waste to help with clarity?
I will be very honest I don’t have any chemicals other than chlorine tablets to my pool. I normally vacuum multiple times a week and backwash every few days.
What if I don't have a filter and pump with a waste option? How do I use this?
Will this work for a thick amount of algae, dead algae that is settled from the bottom of the pool? We are currently using a water hose to siphon, but it takes forever. We bought a vacuum, but it moves too fast and just stars of all the algae, anybody have any tips for this?
How do you close the second port?
Your pool should have come with two hole covers, thts what I use.

Do you have to a certain pump?
I use the Intex sand filter
Does this work with a cartridge pump
Unfortunately no, those pumps don’t have a waste option
@@LifeLessOrdinary I have a cartridge pump and I need to vacuum badly! Do you know how I could possibly vacuum with my pump?
Shoot me a email Brittany, dirtpooroutdoors16@gmail.com
How did you connect hose ?
I use this white hose adapter, which I will link below. I put it into one of the inlet holes and then the hose. And I also cover the other Hole with one of the small plugs that come with the pool for better section.

So do you think the algae gets in the hose and can recontaminate the water
Sure it’s possible, stay on the chemical once you get it clean
Okay, so my question is, why doesn't my sand filter suck strong enough to even pull small bugs down to the filter? What am I doing wrong with this filter? For 2 years, it's never had a great suction. Someone told me to switch out the sand filter with a smaller filter. My skimmer barest doesn't even have a good suction like yours.
*basket
How old is it? 2 years ago I took mine apart and discovered lots of trash on the top part of the filter which was killing my suction. How often do you backwash?
Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve been searching for years and ran up on this today!! Excellent video. I’ll be subscribing and watching the rest of your videos. I give this a 100%!!
I appreciate that comment very much. Comments like yours is exactly why I make these videos to help people
What settings do you vaccum the pool on everytime I vaccum the dirty water comes out the the main spout right back into my pool,so vacuuming is pointless.
I always vacuum on waste option that way it goes out of the pool
@@LifeLessOrdinary thank you can you tell me which settings that is on the pump?
What kind of pump/filter are you using? It will only work with a sand filter pump, not a cartridge.
@@LifeLessOrdinary yes I have sand filter pump, I just vacuumed the pool nothing came back into the pool, but lost alot of water..Now I'm filling the pool back up
You will lose water, but it’s the only way to get small sand and small Particles out
My filter is just symbols on top. Which means waist?
What filter do you have? If you don’t have a waste option this won’t work for your pool
Do I have to turn on the pump during vacuuming on waste?
Yes if you have a sand filter, when the pump is off turn it to waste and then turn the pump on and whatever it sucks up it will push out of the pump.
@@LifeLessOrdinary thank you for you help 🙏
since the water is pumping out, why not just siphon it over the side?
I’m sure you can try that 👍
So where's the hose connected too.."out flow" ?
Connect it to one of the inlet holes, my pool has two. Then cover the other one to make the suction stronger. Put your sand filter on waste and turn on pump
Hi , My first time cleaning my pool. Already put shock, chlorinating liquid and also put 3 chlorine tablets in the floater thing. How can I backwash my pool with the DE filter? Thanks
I don’t believe those filters have a backwash option
@@LifeLessOrdinary oh okay .
I don't have have a Waste option. I have Filter, Backwash, Drain, Rinse, Circulate, Close options. Do you know what option I would use when vacuuming?
Hmmmmmm you might try using the backwash option. And see if it pulls enough suction
Thank you
I really need to do this bc my robot vacuum keeps bringing up a lot of dirt (or something like it) And I can’t seem to get my Ph/alkalinity down bc of this. My problem is I can’t see the bottom bc of the cloudiness of the water. It’s blue but cloudy so I can’t see what I’m vacuuming. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. 🙏🏽
What setting on the sand filter do we set it?
I was looking how to get dead algae from bottom of pool. I notice your PVC connection on internet pool. Do you have video how that was done
Sure do I first did this ua-cam.com/video/-BKgySDisj4/v-deo.html
Then added this ua-cam.com/video/St8HQxZ-YpI/v-deo.html
I don't understand how to do this if you have an automatic vacuum not a hand vacuum. I hooked it up to the skimmer basket outlet and the vacuum does nothing.
Automatic vacuum works differently
while you are vacuuming it is on waste correct? Do you have the vacuum hook to the pump or just the inlets?
Vacuum to the inlet which sucks to the pump and yes it’s on waste
I am new to a sand filter and mine doesn’t have a “waste” option, but it does have backwash. Would that be the same thing?
@ljones42089 yes and that’s the same thing that will happen with the filter. You really need to get it out of the pool and bypass the filter.
What if you don’t have the waste option on your filter?
I would try to siphon using a small hose
Do you lose a lot of water this way ?
Sounds like your pool is not chemically balanced. I would take a sample to the pool store.
And it is a sand filter.
when I vacuums to waste, it blows it right back in my pool AND out the hose. WTF. Brand new filter too.
Something major wrong. Waste should go straight out the side of the pump
My algae is like super glue stuck on there, help, I also don’t have a hose that will connect to the inlet to the pump. I have an Intex pump
My pool has 2 inlets to the pump, do I need to occlude one while I use this brush vacuum thing on the other?
I would plug one of the inlets and vacuum it up the best you can, On the waist setting
Omg I was doing all wrong I left it on filter instead of putting it to waste it seem the dirt was coming into the filter going into the pool again ugh
Live. Learn. Apply
Do you ever sure how to wear to hook it up at
Hook the vacuum hose to one of the two inlets. For better suction cover the other side
Cool thanks
