  • Just a little video to show how easy it is fix a heater switch which is only working on one or two settings. This was carried out on a Nissan Micra K12. The switch and resistor pack setup is very similar on many different cars. The difficulty is locating the pack. The glove box needs to be removed, but this is an easy job as you will see.

    Gordon that was exceptionally helpful and I really appreciate it thank you! Dealer quoted me £120 to fix this, I bought a new part from eBay for £19.99 and followed your guide to the letter and the jobs a goodun: couldn't make it through the winter with the blower the way it was. Really helpful and appreciated! Russell from Fife

    Thanks. Very useful. Take into account that for LHD cars, the control unit remains in the left side, so, you have to access from the steering wheel side.

    If you need to do this job on a K11 Micra as I did this video is very useful however you do not need to take off any panelling to access the 'resistor pack'. It is located almost in plain view under the 'passenger' footwell next to the heater motor. Two 8mm bolts hold it in place, undoe them slide the old pack out, unclip the wires (press the plastic retainer down as you do), replace with the new one. Brand new ones cost about £12 from ebay, they are almost exactly half as long as the original but this worked perfectly in mine even though I was dubious as it didn't have the same depth/length as the original. Thanks very much to bunnybr for the above vid, great if you have to get the glove box out for other jobs on a k11 as they have the same hinges. Hope this post helps a few of you with the older Micra's.

    have this problem too, i change the resistor pack and it didnt work, , was driving home over speed bumps on the road with the fan at the on position and it came on again, sadly this didnt last and next time i started the car it didnt work again, making me believe it could be a bad wiring connection, any ideas people???

      Check the fuse. If you take the fan out you could check it is working by applying 12v to the input and see if it turns on. Just remember there is a bit of a kick when it starts and watch your fingers. You can also check for 12v to the fan.

    Dear Gordon,
    thank you for your instructive video.
    I'm writing this because to me the problem was somewhere else... In fact the resistor pack was fine but the blower motor wasn't working at all. I own a k12 micra (left side drive) but electronics are similar to yours (in fact they are the same, the resistor pack can be reached under the steering wheel with little hassle).
    Following your instructions I was able to disassemble the glove compartment and by doing so I reached the blower cables. As soon as I moved the electrical connector the motor came to life again.
    The connector is flawed and the two pins often become loose interrupting the current passage. I'm still wondering how to permanently solve this (the connector is covered by a plastic shell in my version and I didn't try to remove it because I was afraid to damage something).
    I just wanted to share this solution so that everybody can benefit.
    Again thank you a lot, you literally saved my day

    Hi Gordon, my husband has sorted out my heater really quickly this afternoon, without any complications or setbacks, thanks to your really helpful video and its advice. Now, he says, all I have to do now is wrap up the old pack in Christmas paper and put it under the tree...apparently sorting my heater was my Christmas present...!! (Well, that's what he says but he might be kidding me...!) Anyway, thank you very much for your very valuable contribution to my Christmas pressie - and a very Happy Christmas and New Year to you!

    • @bunnybr

      It would think that no A/C button means no A/C. If it had A/C there would be a compressor on the alternator belt route plus associated pipe work.

    • @bunnybr
      @bunnybr  10 років тому

      It is possible for the resistor to be faulty. It depends where in the circuit of the resistor is broken. I would be inclined to check you are getting a voltage to the resistor pack.

    • @bunnybr
      @bunnybr  9 років тому

      Shogo2007 Best to just remove the resister and test for continuity from pin 1 to pin2 then 3 and 4. If there is continuity from pin1 to pin 4 the resister pack is OK and the problem lies elsewhere. If there is no continuity from pin 1 to pin 2 then it will not work at any selected speed. Hope this helps
