  • There are many iconic places all around Bali. And for a good reason.
But nothing is as iconic for this Indonesia island as its temples and palaces.
We will first take a stop at the water palace of Tirta Gangga to enjoy some beautiful ponds, fountains, colorful fish and beautiful architecture.
We will then move along to the mountains to visit the Lempuyang temple. This is one of the most photographed spots on Bali (picture standing in the Gate to Heaven is a must for many, but I will explain why I didn't do that).
We will end the trip in the Besakih Temple, probably the holiest Hindu spot on the island and take a look at why it was such a let down.
    Let's go :)

I think the Lempuyang temple is the most beautiful... located in the mountains, the view of the volcano, the gates to heaven.... really stunning!

I am an Indonesian. Bali is my second home. And I love Bali so much. But, I must say that I am agreed with you that the admission ticket of these places are too expensive! I was so mad at the Government too because of this. These places are all beautiful and its pathetic that they took advantage of it. Instead of taking care of it! They should make tourists fall in love in Balinese cultures, traditions, and arts. Not the opposites. Nowadays people come to this kind of places for the SOCMED. They taking pictures, videos, and all that for the gram! When they found something that more pretty, more accessible, and cheaper...I believe these places will be left! They will lose their income too! So I strongly suggest them to decrease the price or they will lose everything!
OMG, I am so embarrassed really! Honestly "the tourist trap" thing was offensive words. But I would not argue as you are speaking about the truth!
I duwan Bali gets a bad name just because of it! Bali has to wake up! Seriously!

I actually really enjoyed my time on Bali, I only had two issues... the Taxi drivers in Ubud and tourist guides at the Besakih temple are just really awful and sometimes even aggresive people... and that can really screw up the impression the visitor get...
but other than that, Bali and Indonesia in general was amazing and the local people are just a treasure :)

Oh, Besakih. I wanted to go to the top of the temple, which was "guarded" by five guides, who would not let me in, because I told them I dont speak english. They just wanted to get paid.

We had a really unpleasant experience at Baisakih temple. As we were walking towards the temple a group of local goons threatened us we won't be allowed beyond that point unless we take one of their guides. We were warned about such scam by our home stay owner cum the driver who drove us to the temple. We were a group of 6 women. They wanted to charge us exorbitant amount for the guide. We kept walking towards the temple but two of the gang members walked ahead of us and literally guarded the main door so we could not enter the temple. We just walked around the temple cause that is all we could do. It is so sad we were bullied even in the house of Gods. That was in 2017. I guess it hasn't changed. Why can't local Government do something to stop this bullying practise. It is harassment and paints really unpleasant picture of Bali. Here is my honest opinion.......local Government and Temple administration is hands in gloves with these extorters. I am 100 percent sure they get their cuts from these bullies. Shame on them.

I have a feeling the government has no intention to do anything about Bali. because as much as the place is really beautiful, the ammount of tourist hassle you have to go through, is incredible... the tourist guides and taxi drivers are almost a mafia of sorts... really disappointing
