    I've had good success with a power washer after applying the stripper. Use a wire brush to scratch the surface of the old paint first and then let the stripper do it's thing for about 15min. Then power wash and usually most of it is gone.

    when paint stripping you should try placing something plastic over the top like a ziplock bag, i believe the reason is because it evaporates to some extend (cant remember entirely to tell you the truth). just something ive learnt working on aircraft but im sure its a well known trick for painters.

    I'm a novice in the Starquest Universe. I know about the 7 & 8 wheel widths (front & rear) but did not know about "9's all around" for an aggressive look. Did you change the rim size too, from 16"? Do any of these changes require any other modifications to the car? Thanks for your help in advance. You are a wizard. Robby

      Yes the 9's come from the SHP optioned cars from 88-89 year models. SHP cars had 16x8 fronts and 16x9 rears. I may have to roll the fenders. My challenge right now is finding the correct size tires for the front. I wanted to stick with my toyo proxes t1r. But they don't make them in 225/50. Which is the size Mike from MKS Motorsports runs on the front. I'm assuming that is so they don't rub. This project will probably go down in the winter. Right now I am focusing on a new -10AN catch can setup which will be my next video on here.

    I just got done refinishing my wheels, I probably spent 2 or 3 weeks just editing the video, and about 3 months of spare time fixing 2 wheels. I did it a bit differently than you did, but have the same mirror finish, and kept the original paint.

      Just gave it a watch yeah yours turned out great! I wish the one I had wasn't painted but ohh well. Even the one that hadn't been has corrosion under the grey paint. I'll probably get the center spokes blasted and repainted. need to find a color code that matches well.

      @@crewspeed5934 Yeah, I had the corrosion only on the flat part of the clear. I also had really bad curbrash on the front wheels (not gunna lie, I might have done some of that...)
      You might be able to use a good center cap to get the right color, I really didnt want to deal with that.
      I did the rears last year, and they have grooves in the flat part from machining, and that took most of the work trying to smooth that out, so that they look good when polished.

      @@crewspeed5934 Since you have to paint then anyway, I would color match the wheels to the body. I considered doing that to these, but I also prefer to keep it as stock looking as possible.

      I watched both of you guys videos on your rims and I like what you did, I'll need to use both methods due to some curb rash. Thanks for the videos.

    Where did you find the SHP rims🤯

    • @crewspeed5934
      @crewspeed5934  3 роки тому +1

      There was a guy locally that had them. I kind of got lucky because two years ago I bought a spare torque tube and differential from him. And then he showed me the rims. I didn't feel like splurging for them at the time. But last summer I asked him if he still had them and he did. I didn't want to let them get away. Scooped them up on the way to Road America.

      Great restoration man! So what was the full range of sandpaper you used and how many different grits?
