Olease note Laksa is a wholly Malay cuisine belonging to the Malay people. I'm surprised that the Chinese are selling it. Best wishes from Msia. The traditional version uses ikan parang aka wolf herring. Abd lesser versions use ikan tenggiri aka Spanish mackerel or other cheaper fishes.
In Penang its know as hokkien mee, its also know as prawn mee in other part on the country. hokkien mee in KL ,PJ is another type of noodle dish( fried black noodles) which is delicious also.
Seems like what u had was the mix between prawn noodle and ‘lor mee’ with added ingredient. I never them mixed and it also seems pretty overpowering flavour. Try the 2 dishes as separate, for a more different balanced flavour
Thats penang laksa or Asam Laksa, have you tried Curry Laksa or somewhat similar but different, Mee Kari ?. Another thing they got in Penang is Pasembur (Malaysian indian rojak) savory rojak and Chinese fruity rojak (fruit salad). Both completely different.
@@thatevanguy1480 well penang laksa aka Asam laksa is the most common and most popular laksa, infact if you just say "laksa" that's what comes to mind to most malaysian. That said most states has their own version of laksa and not tamarid based. KL doesn't have its own laksa its a federal territory lol. You can get Asam laksa in KL too. Curry laksa has a creamy coconut with shrimp broth not tangy at all different flavor profile. Mee Kari is a simplified version using chicken broth (cuz its cheaper than shrimp) but has most of the same stuff. Theres white laksa from east coast called Laksam (coconut milk with fish shreds similar to penang laksa) but more like alfredo. Its just a suggestion. BTW Curry laksa aka Laksa lemak is a Peranakan cuisine very traditional 15th century stuff born from chinese/malay cuisine mingled hundreds of years ago. Laksa Penang came from penang originally so where you ate is the OG place lol.
Evan, u have good taste bud, u found location that popular among locals. U will be lucky, when u don't have to q... For your snack. Enjoy ur explore round town

The late Anthony Bourdain ate at this very stall and he had high praise for the laksa.
Wow!

@mr3111 I heard the Kuala Lumpur laksa is the curry one. I haven't had it but it doesn't look as good as this one. This one was legendary!
@@thatevanguy1480curry laksa also known as nyonya laksa or laksa lemak. Popular in Malacca and Singapore.

Sounds great!
Bubuh dalam bakul angkat sendiri😰😰😰
The headline is weird. Why the hell would anyone even think about comparing American fast food to Malaysian (or any Asian) food....
Why not? It is local fast food!
@@starletlianhua4235 It's very tasty, often very slowly made, normal, everyday food. And a lot faster than US belly-filling twoddle.
☕🥐
You should be made honorary penang citizen.
Haha. Thanks ❤
I myself not a fan of tamarind laksa, I cannot stand the fishy tangy smell. I prefer the coconut cream Thai laksa version 😂.
We have a few versions of laksa in Malaysia.
Both are great. I prefer asam laksa lol
