Horus, I don't understand. You were the greatest of the Emperor's primarchs. You had friends. Followers, everything! And you just tossed it all to the wind!! Why would you do that?
horus one weakness was that he was like the Emperor, and just like him he allowed his sons too much freedom, and also the fault of men like us who believed the Emperor and his sons more clever than us just because they were immortal, as guardsmen katsuhiro said during the siege of terra "these are their wars, we are just in between"
Cause in Horus eyes the stakes were high enough to sacrifice everything to obtain victory.
The Emperor implemented the importance of Horus doing and the Imperium. (Someone always needs to keep in mind how much ambition and arrogance are present in most of Horus thoughts.)
So the moment Horus assumed the Emperor himself might be a danger for humanity he didn't hesitate and moved into action (Not forgetting that he was also guided into this path from several directions).
Imagine being him and assuming the Emperor is actually the bad guy (I know highly heretical but it's a thought experiment).
Wouldn't it take your very best and most efficient tactics and strategies to stand even a vague chance against a foe that powerful?
Thats why he milked the moment of suprise so hard and used extremely gruesome tactics right from the start.
He couldn't even ask his farther because if it's true asking him would not only be a massive risk for his own life but also ruining his best chance of attacking in the first place.
Of course he should have trusted his father a lot more and his fall wouldn't have happend. Especially since he accompanied him for so long. But i guess Horus basic character traits and the importance of his position overshadowed any trust he had in the emperor.
He was tricked by chaos, erebus made him see a vision of the imperium's future where the emperor was venerated as a god which went against the imperial truth the very thing they fought for so he tried to prévent this future but accidentally caused it

it is a very old animation i found on deviantart many years ago, i actually had uploaded this video before this one without that video because i could not ind it and gve up, and then i found it and used it, sadly my computer died on me and re started it all and iam not sure if ill be able to remember from where did i get it, but iam 100% sure it was on deviantart
