Seika Sam In the Chinese version, The Monkey King also has those eyes, but he rarely uses it unless necessary. He also has the powerful golden staff which being the center of the story in Hollywood movie version, The Forbidden Kingdom.
Oh i want a continuation on this where son oh gong finds jin seon mi.. please make a sequel on this.. the story deserves it and the love of great son oh gong..

I guess this is somehow a happy ending, but it doesn't feel complete! It doesn't feel like good happy ending, there is still things missing for it to be a happy ending!!!

The ending is not perfect! SOG is a deity, SJ is a ghost, so the script writer may think having SOG to find SJ somewhere far makes the best ending. It is wishful or hopeful ending that doesn’t really win the hearts of this drama supporters. Imagine, SOG stops at the entrance of hell, and he can see SJ standing far away, and SJ calls SOG, and SOG smiles. Drama ends. In this way, the wishful ending is stronger for supporter of this drama like me.
Gourmet Bangkok yup , or better yet, he is in front of underworld throne challenging the deity, the last one he has to defeat while bodies already around him, SM called out his name and smiles.
Maybe there is a second season some day, unlike Scarlet Heart Ryeo though the ending is just pitiful, this at least sums up they truly love each other and will go all the way to find the other to hell and back.
i just found out this drama a few days ago and let me say... I was really hooked to the core. The casts were great, their acting is sooo good, and the osts are a masterpiece. I just finished it today and I was hugely disappointed and unsatisfied with the ending. It frustrates me how I invested so much time and emotions in this drama yet we got that kind of ending. It just felt soo incomplete. It's a shame because I really liked the plot and the characters but the ending felt a little rushed. I wish they worked on it more though :(( Nevertheless, SOG and SJ (and literally all other characters as well) will always be remarkable to me ♡
what the heck with this ending ... ep 19 and 20 . these eps shouls have been like avengers . the dragon should hav a human forme like MA wang and song oh gong . they should have fought like in action movies and sam jang shouldn't have died . she should be supporting SOG with her new power . Ma wang ,pk ,general winter .... should have come andhelped SOG with the fight . SOG would loose his memory because of the fight and sam jang stay alive and decide t not interfer with the other character and try to live a normal life . SOG would have his memory back and try to win sam jang again with his cheesy words like in the beginning ..... this would make an interesting end its better than this i think

As expected of the ending! It would be a cliffhanger since it should ended on their own story. As a fan of the original novel and Japanese and manga adaptation this Korean adaptation is also the best and I’m not disappointed with the ending as in the original they still together though Jeon Seon mi character was the Monk Genzo Sanjo ( in Japanes version) was a guy and Oh Gong character Son Goku will always be his “son”. 😊
i really love this drama n really interesting drama. but the ending make me feel that tvn should make "hwayugi 2" pliss with the same sun oh gong (Lee seung gi) and jin seon mi (oh yeon so). Surely it would be great, n in addition can reveal parts that are still unresolved. Plis continue this drama with the session of "HWAYUGI 2". This drama make me bewitched and always waiting of georgeus Lee Seung Gi as Sun Oh Gong n Oh yeon So as Jin Seon Mi.
This makes me appreciate goblin even more because at least in that she actually kept her promise and came back and asked him if he still remembered her (died then got reincarnated then ran up straight looking for the love of her life ) now that’s fantasy melo done right .... the Hong sisters did it again with BIG they had all the right ingredients but once finished it was still so lacking
*SPOILER* I actually kind of liked this ending as compared to Scarlet Heart or Gu Family Book like many have said above as it kind of suits SOG's character as well, for barging into the Underworld to find JSM. Going to the end of the world to find his love back and not just wait for his love to come back. Awww SOG
