Chris I'm from South Africa. My family 1st people in the WORLD to breed cheetah's in captivity. I grew up with cheetah's and learned from this tremendous experience what my family achieved to help these precious endangered creatures and to prevent them from becoming extinct. It was the most tremendous and humbling experience and such a blessing and gift that I've treasured all my life. It was the start of a lifelong passion of mine for all creatures and the exposure to all the amazing different types of wildlife in my country was an Experience no words can truly describe. You Doctor Chris need to come back to my beautiful South Africa and our beautiful wildlife that no words can truly express what these precious creatures entrusted to all of us are like till you are actually with them is beyond comprehension. Your passion and humbleness for wildlife and conservation and all creatures deserves so much respect and admiration.🐾⚖️🐾🇿🇦
Aww man you are so lucky! I also live in SA but never had the chance to see much of the wildlife (cause it costs money). I wanted to study to become a vet as well and increase the chance to get up close and help with many of the animals dwindling numbers! Hopefully one day I can at least see them

Just to put it in to perspective, it is not that the elephants are overpopulating, it is that their habitats have shrunk so much - by the work of us, that the remaining land can not withstand large populations.
I just reed an article that said 2 species of African elephants are now listed as critically endangered due to poaching for ivory and loss of habitat. Contraception is the cheaper and short term way of dealing with the issue. The corrupted government, genocide, civil wars, poaching, etc I believe that humans are the ones who need contraception, NOT the elephants. If their habitats continue to shrink, using contraception long term will only lead them to extinction.
I was in A Africa in December. I was up close and personal with 3 of bulls in the HERD. Very gentle giants, where I was going with that is all of the makes in the Herd are on contraception. I never knew they could do that. I was very surprised. There are a total of 16 elephants in this Herd. The youngest is a two year old Albino who was an orphan found with a snare in her mouth and around her ears when she was about 4 mos. She had severe brutal wound's. This rescue Herd took her into their family. Chris I know how you felt being up close and personal. I love elephants ❤️🐘❤️

This is exactly what America should be doing with our Wild Mustangs!!! Disgusting we ignore our own laws, allowing abusive round-ups and holding pens for the rest of their lives. Great vid.
@@emiliohuerta8892 :( Our BLM was first made with good intentions. No longer is it true, IMO. The way they round them up with copters, terrifying and running them hard. The BLM IMO is now militarized by our gov't. They should do conception control, but greed is more important, ugh.
Im confused as wouldn't that suppressive injection not last long, wouldn't they have to almost constantly doing this??? I thought they'd use some of contraceptive implant instead.
Yeah, African elephants are endangered, but, they are doing the contraceptives because this herd is growing too large for the area they are in for the environment to withstand the effects of the elephants. Rather than culling the herd (selectively killing members of the herd) they are using contraceptives ...... aka controlling the growth of the herd. Chris discussed this early in the video. Unfortunately, I don't know the time marking for those comments. Rewind and run it again. Maybe turn on captions and read to help not missing Chris talking about that. Not being an Aussie, I sometimes miss parts of conversation because of the accent and the speaker talking so fast. I find the captions helpful with that issue for me.
I’m sad the elephants in my city don’t they don’t have elephants in or where we live they had to take him away and take them to maybe Australia or like a different place but it doesn’t exist where I live in the moor
I don’t see how they need Dr. Chris to come over and help when they have 2 vets. Be quite expensive to call someone every time they need to tranquilize an animal
Ok, this hole UA-cam needle and operation phobia has gotten way out of hand. Blurring the tip of a needle that everyone knows is there. With the operations we are at least as manny how are interested to see as much as possible ( we really don’t get much opportunity and most of us non irl. ). Why is the sensitivity of some people more important than others interest interest in reality ?
Because we'll keep watching the video even with the silly blurs, but people who are just too fragile to see reality won't. That's my theory anyway. I doo wish I could actually *see* the procedures though

How long does that shot of contraceptive last for? It was 5ml of suppressant, not a time release capsule.🖤🇨🇦

More human males need this done to them for contraception.
Plenty of females too.
Pedophiles for sure.
Amazing video...but running away from the rhino became vital...

Awesome job on everyone’s part.
It’s a shame it’s so difficult to redistribute the “extra” elephants somewhere their numbers are depleted…

Right, I want to know also

Forever I think

This contraception is needed for humans. We are equally destructive to the environment as well.

vulnerable species towards extinction..and shouldnt be neutered in my opinion. 415,000 elephants across Africa.
