I don't! I sent out a couple as a freebie over the summer last year, but I will be sure to compile all of them and send those out too before school starts!
Thank you! Great video! I’d Like to see more organization ideas. I enjoy seeing your center/independent practice ideas too. Have a great summer and thank you for sharing your year with us!
Hi Susan, I used to struggle with classroom jobs so what I have been doing is having 4 helpers a day that do any job needed ( pass out papers, lights, erase the board etc). I am so inspired by your use of slides and I am going to try to incorporate that as well. So that will be my change. I admire and am thankful that you can find the time to be able to share. I learn so much from your videos.
I went from everyone having a job, so one year it was 32 jobs that rotated weekly to this year finishing one star helper. Each day my helper changes and they do all the jobs for the day. Love it and will never go back as required way too much on my end.
Thank you so much for sharing your keep and get rid of things. We’re switching to starting the day with math too, so I would really appreciate seeing your ideas. Writing and organization are also on my look into deeper list.
I love the idea of having teaching slides that guide the day. I’m wondering how you save all of them. I tried to do it this year but the computer was slowing down as I had several slides per day.
As a first year teacher i so love all your suggestions and hope to implement them in my class. A lot of upfront work for sure but with your guidance I am excited to incorporate these ideas. I would love to see videos on organization as well.
I am definitely interested in your google slides...all of them!! Would love for them to be on tpt! I worked with google slides this past year and really like the way it guided my day, kept me on task and worked so smoothly. I have enjoyed observing the slides you use and would really like to have the opportunity to use in my classroom! Thank you for always sharing!
Always loving your videos and learning lots! Yes. Would love to see the organization. I would also love to see you vocabulary routine. I always start off great then sizzle out. I need a good routine. ♥️
I would love to see your Fundations phonics slides!!! I teach 2nd grade, but I'm sure your slides would be super helpful! Organization videos would be awesome, too! Love all your videos Susan!
I am a veteran teacher and still loving it. I would love to learn how to make really engaging slides. Not born plugged in!. Regarding the chair bags, we have hooks on our desks. We use small canvas bags specifically for headphone, and 20 unifix cubes. (used for all kinds of activities) I used bins to store their fundations boars, journals and math folders and whatever else. I was happy as they quickly found materials. It worked out great. We also implemented Wit and Wisdom this year!
I was looking at the phonics slides. I love them. Can you make a video walking us through the slides? On the CVC slides, I am curious about the vowels to the picture (with the squiggley lines). Also, the building and journal. I guess really seeing you do a pretend lesson for us. I hope that makes sense. Thanks!!
Hi Amy! Those slides are actually meant to align specifically with the Fundations phonics program so you would only know what all those mean if you were following that program if that makes sense!
I would love to see a video on how you organize your classroom. Could you also share your ideas on a vocabulary routine once you determine what that will be? Thank you for the ideas!
I am definitely interested in organization ideas. Also, how do you store your morning play bins? For example, do you have all the brain flakes in one container, all the magnatiles in another, etc or do you have it broken down in smaller bins? If smaller bins, what works for you and how many do you put in each? I am asking because I taught STEM last year and had to purchase all my own materials so now I have a ton of those type of item but I am not sure how to store it in my SPED classroom for optimal use and organization. Thank you so much for all of your great ideas! I have been watching you for about a year now but haven't had a chance to dig into your older videos but I now plan to watch as many as possible. I love how you break everything down into understandable steps. Have a great summer!
Susan, thank you for your weekly vlogs this year. I’ve taught second grade for over 25 years and I anxiously awaited each week’s video for ideas and inspiration. Like you, I want to improve my vocabulary instruction. I would love any organizational videos too! Your students are lucky to have you. Have a wonderful summer!
Thanks for all the great ideas! Putting times into my morning message worked really well for me this year. I would get my analogue clock out and discuss what that time is going to look like on our actual clock in the classroom. I also have a blank analogue clock on all the subject cards in my visual schedule and then I use a whiteboard marker to add the hour and minute hand in, and I definitely see kids comparing the visual schedule to the clock on the wall throughout the day.
We were piece-mealing our literacy curriculum as well and I loved using your Book Bunch lessons! I especially liked printing the questions on post-its so I had good questions ready as I read. We picked HMH Into Reading for next year so I'm excited to have a clearer scope and sequence, but I'm hoping to continue using the Book Bunch lessons when I can, especially during read aloud time. Also, I am blessed to have accumulated a lot of games and toys, so I rotate morning bins every few weeks. I usually have 5 options and will rotate 2 or 3 at a time to keep things fresh. Then I have a 2nd set of games for indoor recess and 'Fun Friday'. This way, the students have a clear idea of "I use these items quietly" and "I can be louder with these toys." Then I have an additional set of more traditional games like Uno and Connect Four that we used in the afternoons to finish our day. You introduced me to the "Guess In Ten" games and they are a favorite during our afternoon game time! I appreciate all your work and look forward to your videos each week.
I am so happy you liked the Book Bunches!! I hope to still use them for any "fill in" time or read aloud time and definitely for sub plans!! And thank you so much for the toy rotation ideas - that is EXACTLY the type of routine I am looking to implement next year!
Hi Susan! Happy summer! I would love for you to do a video on organization, how you establish transitions in your classroom and how you differentiate writing instruction using your units of writing. Lastly, I loved doing the book study with you last summer. Will you do more in the future? Also what books about reading and writing are you planning to read this year?
GREAT question! I wasn't planning on doing a full book study, but I am reading Differentiating Phonics Instruction for Maximum Impact by Wiley Blevins this summer, so maybe I will share a couple videos with some insights I learned and am excited to implement next year!
I would also love to see an organization video. I am transitioning from teaching PreK to first grade next year; thank you for providing the sound wall cards and sharing your room set-up ideas. I second using slides; it worked so well for me in PreK, and I am glad it works well in first grade, too.
Loved this! Yes we never had enough time for math. I struggled with morning routine as well. Will organize more and yes we started this last year with new CKLA so was not very organized with that!!
I would love to see a video on organization. Also the digital slides are something that really interests me. I love how you used them to guide your day and help in teaching the lesson that you were on. Also, our district adopted HMH Into Reading three years ago. Some of it I like. I want to thank you for your vlogging. You have so many great ideas and you are so real about it.
Thanks for your great ideas! I see the date cards, but not the schedule cards. Are these in your TPT store? If not, were they easy to make? Perhaps a potential video over the summer to show how to make them?
Yes, I was looking for those too! I really like them and would love to use the schedule cards as well but could not find them on the links you posted. I use the sound wall cards and absolutely love them! Thank you so much Susan for all you do and happy summer! I am a mom of 3 grown sons and remember those backyard camp out days so well! Thanks for reminding me about how sometimes mom just has to sleep inside!😂
Hi Susan, thank you for your videos this year! I have been teaching first grade for 13 and it was nice to see new ideas and fun ways to learn. Can you make a video on organizing items in the class?
You are a gift to teaching and teachers everywhere! I teach first grade, what size chair pockets did you buy? Some of them are on sale right now. Thanks!!
Hi Susan, I would love to see the organizing video. Also I would love to see the heart words video again, so that I will know which heart words to introduce at the beginning of the year. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a wonderful summer.
Thank you for so many great ideas! We will be going into our 3rd year of Into Reading. Big learning curve and tons of resources available (it can be overwhelming), but there are some great parts! I selfishly hope your district goes with HMH so I can hear all of your ideas😆
Great Video! Can you tell me what "soft start" is? Also, I did not have sound cards in my classroom as I was a new teacher at my school in Oct. 1023. Thank God for your videos and tools that helped me through the year. I changed my teaching based on the Science of Reading and my students were all but 4 on grade level by the end of the year. My math block was right after lunch as well and my students missed out on a lot of math too. My biggest hurdle is having a scope and sequence for 1st grade. I do not have one. Do you have any suggestions. Also, I am aware that you like teaching with your slides. I am having a hard time transitioning from writing words on the board when blending to using your blending slides. I need to figure that out. Best regards and thank you so much, Kerrie
Fantastic video 🎉 I love watching all content you deliver. Am looking forward to next one but have an enjoyable and relaxing holiday with your family first!
I would love to see ALL of the above topics you have suggested making videos about! Everything you post is SO helpful. I just looked at those chair pockets and they're $43 each on Amazon!!!! Holy smokes. So bummed. I've not found good chair pockets since I made my own out of denim years ago. Those lasted many years. But I don't have access to an upholstery sewing machine anymore, which was what I used. But maybe it's time to try making them again. Thanks for all this info. It's so helpful to hear someone else's perspective on all this. :)
Great video, as always! Loved hearing your thoughts on soft start, jobs, calendar space, and more! I laughed because we also do a soft start (we call them Wonder Stations) and love the tweaks we have made over the years so they run themselves, but OH are they loud! I am inspired to think of ways to calm them down without getting rid of them. I co-teach in a double classroom (two teachers, 38 students) and we have always had TWO calendars up on the white boards, so I LOVED the idea of going digital! We have two TVs in the room that will work perfectly. I hope you will share your digital calendar again-- I must have missed it!
Haha I am glad I am not the only one with a sometimes LOUD start!! I will be sending an email soon with every month of the school year ready to go for digital calendar!
Into Reading is very intense, especially for primary. They do have instructional slides prepared for the phonics piece, but there's nothing for shared reading/comprehension. There are a lot of pieces and the online platform is dreadful to navigate. I loathed it my first year but am now comfortable using it, knowing which things I can omit because it'll spiral back later in the year. Great ideas. I've jotted some of my own down while watching your video. Good luck!
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see an Organization video as well! If you do everything digitally, what happens when there is a SUB? Also, I'd love an editable version of the digital calendar slides!! I'm from Canada, so would love to change it around. I don't have a Smartboard, but would Google Slides work too?
Susan, THANK YOU for your weekly vlogs! I loved my Sunday morning routine of watching... I teach second grade, but found so many great ideas to modify and incorporate into my teaching. You are a gift! After watching this video, I felt like I needed to take notes to remember your keeps/changes! LOL I would love to see more of your organization ideas as you prepare for the next school year. Also, with second graders, we don't do much with a calendar routine, but I would love to incorporate a days of the week/money/time slide to review a couple days a week. We only have tvs and not smart boards, but any way to just purchase those slides to edit each day? I would also love to improve my vocabulary instruction (we have no literacy curriculum) and to see how your materials for soft start are organized. And do you put them out each day in certain locations or are they stored in a way where kids no where to get them? I have a lot of materials, so want to know how to organize so they don't have access to all at once. My grade level colleagues and I just ordered pouches and hope to help kids organize their materials. What do you have them keep in their pouches besides white boards. Would you say chromebooks are too heavy to store in them? They have to bring them back and forth in their backpacks every day, but it is a pain to get them from there evey time they use them. And lastly, would love to see your new schedule at some time. Thanks again!! Sorry for the long comment... and I have 3 more days til summer break... Can't wait!! PS Would love a tour of your home office! I would like to get mine organized this summer! :)
First off, I really love your videos and TPT store. I'm currently working on my alternative teacher certification while I sub and hope to teach K-2nd. Second, I would love to see organization videos. As a sub and a future teacher, I find slides extremely helpful to keep me on track. Thank you so much for all of your amazing content!
Hi Susan, I just came across your videos two months ago - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Like you, I have just experienced a year in a new classroom and it is so true, you need to work in the space to know how it works for you and your students. I would love to see an organization video. One question, do you store all of your "resources" at school or home?
Hi! I love your content and videos- so helpful and inspiring! I was wondering when you do your calendar routine. Do you do it before morning meeting? Before math?
Hi Susan, Thank you for yet another informative video. I would live to hear more about organisation and also about phonics games if that's ok and your yearly rotation on this. We still have four weeks left to go here in England before We break for summer. Blessings Susie 🙏🇬🇧
Just a tip: I have done Morning Tubs for years (1st 15 minutes of the day so I can take attendance and late kids can come in). I have a bin for each table group (I have 5 tables). I rotate the bins each day for the week, then change the tub materials. It's easy to do. This way, they don't need to decide what to play with, it's fair, and they get a new toy or activity each day. I also sometimes sneak math and language activities in to change it up (hundreds board, playdoh letters, pattern block puzzles, etc).
This is great! I also used tubs and put a tub on each table. The students could work at any table. Books were always available to look at on the carpet as well during this time.
I haven't finished watching so I might comment again. Lol. But I just love your morning meeting routine! I am moving from teaching STEM to teaching SPED Autism so I am going from 420 students to probably about 10. I have a breathing and resetting routine I did last year with my STEM students that I think I'll keep and then I want to incorporate your morning meeting routine for the rest. I think I may have to adapt your Tuesday and Wednesday activities depending on my students skill levels but I love this and I think it will work out well! Thanks so much for sharing everything!
If I could give this 100 likes I would! I love this video Susan and will be taking and using many of your ideas. I can prep several of these at home, which is great. Thank you so much! 😊 Which phonics program did your school decide on? Will you be selling these slides on your tpt store? I'm interested in any video you make!
We haven't decided on a program just yet -but we are piloting HMH Into Reading and EL Education in the fall! We should have a final decision around November!
@@SusanJonesTeachingWe use HMH Into Reading, but the series we use is several years old. I think they told us we could be choosing a new reading curriculum after this next year.
We switched from Fundations to CKLA and we're on year two with it. I think it's a fine program, but the way our school communicated and then trained us left much to be desired. We watched a video for 30 minutes and that was that. I had to basically go through it solo and then prepared slides for my 2nd grade team. Also, we could never do it to fidelity as our phonics was only 20 minutes. When we finally did have a brief PD training the instructor basically said well that will never work. Anyhoo, we're still using it although we've expanded to 25-30 minutes lol.
The white table is actually a Lego table from PBkids that I had used with my own boys for years and then moved it into the classroom. The chairs are from Lakeshore here: www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/ca/p/LC405
I hate the bins on table for pencils and supplies as the kids, some, would always throw in their pencils. I'm super sensitive to noise and chaos in the classroom. So, this year we did away with any table bin (btw NYC teacher here with minimal space) and got zippered pencil bags. I never thought this would work but it has. They're zip tied to their chairs and their pencils, crayons, erasers fit inside. Next year, I'll add glue and scissors (assuming I have no cutters as I did this year). Also, I instituted a picture attendance pocket chart that I also thought would be way too challenging. It wasn't and the kids love seeing their own faces in the room. I'm going to continue this as well. I would add a picture but I don't know how to.
Love that!! I am with you on the bins on tables - I did that early in my career and had "community supplies" but the visual clutter and noise was a lot for me!
Do you teach designated ELD to your English learners daily? If so, how do you organize that block so you get time with ELs while others are independent?
I would love to see the slides. I have been trying to make my own but it is taking forever. I am returning to teaching kindergarten after teaching other grades for the past 10 years. I definitely need organization. Over the summer I have been making centers, that are currently in a jumbled mess.
Something I did this year and it really wasn't planned ... i would give vocabulary words on Monday and a qiz on Friday ... but the lesson I did that week maybe opinion writing or letter writing etc. of some grammar rule adding ing for example ... I would put it on the back of my spelling quiz and also test them on it without any or much help...it could even be a math question. The students got the routine and I feel because it was a Quiz they took it more serious
Have you ever taught a split class? I have a first & second grade this year. I don’t have an aide. Any ideas on how to organize class time to accomodate teaching one group while the other works independently?
Yes on seeing an organization video. I love when teachers share what works for them. New ideas are always welcome!! Thank you!
Would love to see an organization video! Do you have your digital calendar slides on tpt? Happy Summer to you and your family!!! Love your videos!!!
I don't! I sent out a couple as a freebie over the summer last year, but I will be sure to compile all of them and send those out too before school starts!

Organization video ! Yes please!
Would love to see writing slides. Math slides too
Your students will miss you next year. Your hew students are getting a amazing educator. You are a gift to teaching.
Thank you! Great video! I’d Like to see more organization ideas. I enjoy seeing your center/independent practice ideas too. Have a great summer and thank you for sharing your year with us!

I would absolutely LOVE hearing your ideas for organization!!
Would definitely love to see your organization video! Would be helpful as I transition to my new grade 2 class!
This is all great information. Organization is always a struggle for me. I would love to see your ideas!
Fantastic video 🎉 I love watching all content you deliver. Am looking forward to next one but have an enjoyable and relaxing holiday with your family first!
Thank you for creating and sharing this video. Would love to see an organization video.
I would love to see the organization video. I love your ideas of things to keep and the ones not to keep. Awesome. Thank you

Oh gosh, no never buy them on Amazon!!! I’m guessing those are third party because on the real website they’re about $10-12 per pocket!
Yes please fot an organization video would be very helpful!!! Thank you!
Where can I find your magnetic schedule cards? Thank you for all you do!!
Right here: bit.ly/SJTschedulecards
I would love an organization video.

Yes! I did see that - I am happy to be able to use those during the pilot and see how it goes!
Classroom organization---YES PLEASE
Into Reading is very intense, especially for primary. They do have instructional slides prepared for the phonics piece, but there's nothing for shared reading/comprehension. There are a lot of pieces and the online platform is dreadful to navigate. I loathed it my first year but am now comfortable using it, knowing which things I can omit because it'll spiral back later in the year. Great ideas. I've jotted some of my own down while watching your video. Good luck!
Thank you for the insight!! The first year is going to be rough no matter what, so I will be interested to see how it all goes!
I would love to see an organization video! Thank you for sharing your ideas!
Hey, I was wondering were you going to post your Visual Schedule Cards for free also. Thanks
Yes, right here sorry! bit.ly/SJTschedulecards
Would love to see an organization video!! Thank you!
I would love a video about classroom organization please! Love this video as well. Thanks so much! ❤️
Good Morning Mrs Jones.
Thank you for this very helpful video. You’re soooo good! Yes to an organization video in the future!
I would love to see an organization video. So much and hard to keep everything organized.
Love this video. Would love to see your organization video, too.
I would love your daily schedule cards! Do you have a link for those? Thanks!
Yes right here: bit.ly/SJTschedulecards
Thank you so much! Do you have the clip art for it so I can add some of my own?
Looking forward to slides for Telling Time!
Hi! I love your content and videos- so helpful and inspiring! I was wondering when you do your calendar routine. Do you do it before morning meeting? Before math?
I would love to see an organization video!
Where do you get the calendar slides? I love all your slides!!!
Organizational videos - yes, please
Love this idea - thank you!!
This is great! I also used tubs and put a tub on each table. The students could work at any table. Books were always available to look at on the carpet as well during this time.
I would love to see an organization video and to see daily slides for sale on Tpt
I'd love to hear about how you will be adding math to the morning.
Yes yes yes to an organization video!
Do you have a link for the digital calendar you use? Or can you tell us more about how/where you made it?
Love your videos. Could you please share a link to your year long calendar?
I haven't finished watching so I might comment again. Lol. But I just love your morning meeting routine! I am moving from teaching STEM to teaching SPED Autism so I am going from 420 students to probably about 10. I have a breathing and resetting routine I did last year with my STEM students that I think I'll keep and then I want to incorporate your morning meeting routine for the rest. I think I may have to adapt your Tuesday and Wednesday activities depending on my students skill levels but I love this and I think it will work out well! Thanks so much for sharing everything!
You're so welcome - it is truly my favorite part of every day!
If I could give this 100 likes I would! I love this video Susan and will be taking and using many of your ideas. I can prep several of these at home, which is great. Thank you so much! 😊
Which phonics program did your school decide on? Will you be selling these slides on your tpt store? I'm interested in any video you make!
We haven't decided on a program just yet -but we are piloting HMH Into Reading and EL Education in the fall! We should have a final decision around November!
@@SusanJonesTeachingWe use HMH Into Reading, but the series we use is several years old. I think they told us we could be choosing a new reading curriculum after this next year.
Yes please video on organization. I am a first year teacher starting August and learning so much from you to implement this year
We switched from Fundations to CKLA and we're on year two with it.
I love your videos! I would love to see an organization video.
I'm interested in an organization video
Susan, I would love organizationally video for a small space.
I would love to purchase those morning meeting slides!
I would love to have help with organization. Do you have daily slides available for purchase that are editable? Have a restful summer.
Organization video would be great!
Also, do you have any links for your low white table and chairs? Love them!
The white table is actually a Lego table from PBkids that I had used with my own boys for years and then moved it into the classroom. The chairs are from Lakeshore here: www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/ca/p/LC405
Looking for your daily schedule cards for board that you use with magnets. I looked in TPT but its not coming up.
Right here!: bit.ly/SJTschedulecards
I'm not sure if I'm missing where you have them, but where can we find your Schedule Cards? I love your videos! Thank you!
You can grab those here! bit.ly/SJTschedulecards
Love that!! I am with you on the bins on tables - I did that early in my career and had "community supplies" but the visual clutter and noise was a lot for me!
writing slides on tpt would be amazing!
❤❤❤yes on organizing 😊
I would love to use your writing slides if they are on TPT! I teach writing to my own first graders and to a second grade class also.
Great video. Please post about your new schedule
What a great idea! Thank you for sharing!!
Have you ever taught a split class? I have a first & second grade this year. I don’t have an aide. Any ideas on how to organize class time to accomodate teaching one group while the other works independently?
