my 78 year old dad just had this done and 2 weeks out he was practicing his golf swing. he walked on it 1 day after surgery. after around 3 weeks he is cutting back on his pain meds, and is hoping to start driving soon. he had the other knee done around 2 years ago, and its working great.

Had my right knee replaced back in July of this year. Very happy with the results. Problem is I’ve been bowlegged all my life, so when the good doc replaced my knee joint, he straightened out my leg, making it almost two inches longer. Now I walk around all lopsided.
Left knee replacement is scheduled for November 30th, I’m nervous but excited to be able to move naturally again and get outside and do all the things, walking, hiking, bicycling, living!👍🏻

Many thanks, I been tryin to find out about "do cortisone shots for knee pain work" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Ieyameron Unexpected Improvement - (do a search on google ) ? It is a great one off guide for discovering how to end your mind-numbing knee pain minus the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my brother in law got great results with it.

I had a TKR 4 1/2 years ago. Im 60 now. I do not run. I do not jump, play sports or anything like that. I had an infection in the " new knee " I spent some extra time in the Hospital. Too much extra time. I was angry, had the pitty party. Why me? Its always me ? that kind of stuff. But looking back. Getting a new Knee was one of the best decisions I ever made. I can walk miles now. I can live a normal life.
Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. ! Throw away your crutches. Throw away that box of Kleenex. I may be a wee bit old. But my knee is good. And so is my life !!

must add a little comment. Had a bilateral 3 months ago. I am 71 years old. get off the walker day two and use crutches. much , much better. I am one of the lucky 85%.. I can now walk for hours, use a bike ( very theraputic) swim. climb trees , carefully. still can`t run, (not a problem) no pain at all. can kneel on both knees. feels odd but not painfull. Drove a car on day 7,, yes day 7.. this is not a difficult thing to do. from watching the video, I can not understand why these patients do not do the most obvious thing to help themselves.......LOSE WEIGHT..

I am 3 months out from a right TKR. 3 months of rehab and I was not happy with my progress until I read some of the comments here. At zero extension and 115 flexion. Knee still hurts, cannot kneel and knee feels numb, very warm and swells after exercise. Been reading about the x10 therapy machine and when my left knee is done I will bite the financial bullet and try it, anything would be better than the extreme pain in rehab.

I'm in week 5 of my tkr. I drove the second week. I thought I had done all the therapy I could do, until they threw me a curve! LOL it wore me out!! I'm so very happy to walk without pain!! No cane for two weeks, but I'm still a fall risk so I don't go crazy! LOL

I did 15 deep knee bends , an 10 full lunges with my supportive leg touching the ground after 3 weeks , I walked in 1/2 mile stints , an I was climbing stairs after 7 days , used no crutches or walking aids . I’m
63 an I’ve trained in all types of sports since I was 14 so 45+ years constantly, this was the key to my success as I’m
No stranger to pain , endured dozens of injuries for me a total knee replacement was just another pain I had to endure to overcome , I’m a tower crane op by trade . Have to pass a very stringent Working at Heights medical, safety critical, that’s next . Had my surgery on 29th Jan . Pleased with everything considering My age as past my prime .

Remember they cut ACL&PCL so medical and lateral ligaments are only thing to stabilize. This just takes time. It takes at least a year for full recovery. Avoid any infection, antibiotics for everything, dental, urology, etc.

8 years ago a consultant told me I had stage 4 arthritis in my left knee and I could have a replacement..I declined as I wasn't in any pain and I cycled alot probably had good surrounding muscle support..fast forward to 2023 I've got a cyst the size of my fist on the inside of my knee..consultant all keen to get rid of it..after mri scan asked if I could live with it..I really wanted it gone..so he advised due to arthritis a knee replacement..yes I had some knee issues but not like some folk..he said I'd need a tkr in the future and just removing the cyst would cause problems down the line ..he wanted to do both at the same time..I slightly reluctantly agreed..had it all done..its only been 1 month on ..but wished I'd left it if I'm honest

I am approaching my 4th month since my knee replacement surgery. I still have swelling around the knee. I also have a burning and tingling sensation around the knee and it goes down my leg into my foot. Also my knee feels like there is a very tight band around it. Sometimes when I get up from sitting or laying I get a sharp pain in the knee making it difficult to walk. It usually goes away after I walk a few feet. My doctor said during my last visit if the swelling does not go down by the next visit he wants to x-ray my back to see if there are any problems with that. Although I have no pain in my back he said back issues effect the healing process of the knee. Doctors are not upfront with you about everything that you go through from TKR surgery and afterwards. My doc said I would be back to work in 3 months. Now I am wondering if I will every go back. I have a cementless implant which recovery is longer because for the first month you can not put your full weight on your foot. This is another thing the doc did not tell me. This video was informative and honest. Having a TKR is definitely a learning experience.

JDean1953, I completely understand your problem. I too am 3 months after knee surgery & still have great pain. I cannot sleep at night & the pain will not stop. My Dr. is no help & I am not sure they tell you the full truth. They say most are fine, but what about the 10 to 15% that are NOT OK? If my pain does not go away soon I will chose to have my leg amputated to get rid of the pain. I may have to travel abroad to have the amputation but it will be worth getting rid of the pain.
Lots of luck & I hope by now your knee is better as for me I will proceed for a few more months before I proceed as stated.

    • @JDean1953
      @JDean1953 10 років тому +3

Has your doctor checked for infection? I am over 7 months and no improvement. In fact the leg gets stiff if I am in one position for very long. I also work 10 hours a day on concrete floors which doesn't help matters either. When I come home from work, I basically rest the knee by elevating and icing it so I can work the next day. My doc says he wants to wait 9 months before proceeding on. Then he will draw fluid out of the knee and have it analyzed for infection. If there is an infection that will not be good. That requires a revision. Which means operating on the knee, taking out the prosthetic, irrigating the bone and tissues with an antibiotic solution, then put an antibiotic cement in, closing the knee up, go on an antibiotic IV for 6 weeks. When there is no more sign of infection, then they open you back up and put in a new prosthetic which is coated with an antibiotic. Many people have told me it can take up to a year to fully recover from knee replacement surgery. It is definitely more than I expected.

Bob Dillow I know exactly how you feel Bob. I had my knee replacement nearly 6 months ago and still have to use a walking stick. My problems sound very much like yours, terrible pain despite strong pain killers. My knee does not bend properly and it is not straight. I have physio & hydro plus I walk and exercise as much as possible. I was taken back into hospital 5 months after my opp because of the lack of movement, my surgeon tried to straighten my knee under a general anesthetic but failed. What chance is there then of me being able to get more movement if the surgeon couldn't do it. I wish I had never had it done.

Hi I am about to have replacement in JAn/Feb 2014. I have always been a sportsman. Still am. 3 x 50 lengths freestyle swims per week. Dancing 3/4 times per week to a high standard Argentine Tango needing to pivot and turn a lot.
I would like to ski again but am prepared to wait on that!! My Q is Do I haveto use sticks and crutches. I didnt use them at all after 2 x arthroscopies. Not a hero just determined to get back quickly and did. Did all my exercises. Same with rotator cuff surgery which took just over year but my front crawl is as good as ever.
Dancing is important to me. Can I push myself? It doesnt have any real load bearing just my weight which is quite slim and not overweight. Tango is mainly walking and turning. Love the Vid. Also is epidural viable in a sit up and watch position? Iam not squeamish and have watched other procedures. tks

Today 12/10/2021 I went for my first consultation with a knee specialist with the idea of having both knees replaced. He did his very best to persuade me not to have a knee replaced. Instead I settled on a steroid injection and agree to wear a knee brace.

    • @larry4789

After 4 days the Anesthetic wore off. The mussels above the left knee blow up like a balloon. NO better off after the steroid injection.
I consulted a private knee specialist who stated he would not replace my knees for 6 months due to the risk of infection from the steroid injection.
He went further to say the steroid injection had made the knee replacement a lot more difficult.

strawny49 if your asking for yourself I am 46 and very active I just had mine done a week ago and I already have 115degrees of flexibility. It depends on how well you prepare and excercise before the surgery! You being a firefighter should be ahead of the game like me! Finally get a knee surgeon your comfortable with and that specializes in sports medicine! I had a great outcome! Hardly any pain and can walk pretty well on it after just 8 days! Good luck!

Christopher Hume I had my right knee done end of January 2017, it's been 10 weeks, I too have a lot of numbness. I have spoke to many, many different ones who had the same surgery TKR. They have either experienced the same as us ( numbness) or some had zero numbness. While others had numbness for months on end, with it trickling away little by little. It feels odd, but be patient because it will go away. I hope that helps you. Try to keep in mind, we do well not to compare ourselves to others because each one of us is going to heal at our OWN body speed. The best to you and your recovery 💕

This is 6 weeks and my pains still pretty bad. I have therapy three times a week I do my excersice s at home but my knees still swollen stays a little warm feels sortof numb and sensitive.. Ocan not get my knee to go past a 80-81 degree bend yet. My therapist tried laying me on my stomach and pushed my knee back..I swear I thought it die..the pain was beyond excruciating. I expect some discomfort but I am refusing that particular one. I cried like a baby and I can tolerate a lot if pain..my hamstring in back of my knee is so tight. I'm disappointed in where I am at right now because my therapist says I should b farther slong. I see my Dr in a few days I'm requesting a.detailed x-ray before I go on..my last one said I a reward failure and a fracture. And the swelling pains right where they said the fracture was. I called my Dr he said he talked to the radiologist and my.legs ok there's nothing wrong..well why's the report say otherwise..it just dosnt feel right so I pray its ok and I'll continue to heal..
