Visiting John Bonhams Grave on his 70th Birthday

- I visited Johns grave for the first time in Rushock. A quaint little place and it couldn't have been better weather. I was on my own for 10 minutes then some guy turned up on a bicycle. He said people do struggle to find the place but I just searched for John Bonhams grave on Google maps and it worked for me. RIP (I didnt have the time to visit his new statue in Redditch but will do another time)
What a beautiful peaceful spot
I have visited the grave many times . There is always a calming sense of serenity that surrounds the stone, slightly tilting, and under the branches of the tree . This quaint tiny village hamlet church always impeccably maintained and a mecca for pilgrims to pay respects to John Bonham . Quite how this tiny place handled the funeral of the greatest of all drummers in the worlds greatest band and all of the entourage of the music world remains a mystery .
There is always something so moving and calming about a celebrity's grave. Can't quite put my finger on it, but you are always conscious of who that great person was and what you know them for, yet here you are in their very presence.
I felt it at Alf Ramsay's cremation plot in Ipswich when I lived there, again at Fulton Mackay's grave in London.
I made it out there (from the U.S.) about a year earlier. Had a lovely, quiet moment with Bonzo in the rain and left my well-worn sticks. Felt almost like a religious moment. The locals were nice too. One lady at the cemetery said her uncle lived near Bonham and her family remembered him ripping around those country roads with his hot rods.
Rofl Bonzo drove like a madman. He almost killed Tony Iommi driving him around England 😂 He drove directly onto the middle part of a roundabout and he just left his wrecked car there lol
LEGENDS NEVER DIE
Honor to this amazing Ancestor... and to the people who have taken the time to leave such beautiful offerings at his grave 🌹🥁🍃🕯
You'll always be missed
Wow! Thank you for posting this clip. It really means a lot. My wife and I are huge fans of Bonzo and Zeppelin- we often toast to him before sipping our nightly cocktail. His contributions still are heard in our house regularly!
25th September 1980 was my 14th birthday. That was the age I started taking an interest in drums. Though I didn't discover Led Zeppelin for a few more years. No-one like Bonzo. RIP fella.
Not sure he's even buried there. He was cremated.
Thank you my friend.... that bring tears into my eyes... i cried
What a wonderful thing to do! The best drummer in the stratosphere. I hope he had a relationship with Jesus.
I used to live on the farm just up the road in the 70's and used to drive past Zep's watering hole in Cutnal Green on my way to work. "The Chequers". It's all very gentrified now. The whole area. In the 70's it was more down to earth and accessible. Still stunningly beautiful countryside. Rip John.
So nice people leave items that a drummer would use. A symbol of love ❤️
Happy birthday Bonzo, greatest rock drummer ever,my drumming hero 🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧.
I just heard Leslie West is forming a little three piece band somewhere far north, with Jack Bruce and Bonzo. That band must sound like mighty thunder.
☺️ That would sound absolutely amazing wow
SEEING MR BONHAMS FINAL RESTING PLACE IS OVERWHELMING .. SEEING ALL THE TRIBUTES, STICKS AND SYMBOLS IN SUCH A
SECLUDED CEMERTARY ITS NO SURPRISE HOW MUCH AFTER 40 PLUS YEARS HE SO LOVED AND RESPECTED
RIP MR JOHN HENRY GOAT BONHAM
Mr. John Henry Bonham, you will never be gone you will be here in your 🎵 music andforever in our 💕 hearts I'm forever grateful that you walked God's green earth, best drummer forever love you so much 🙏
Thanks for the great Memories Bonzo
Greatest drummer , R I P JOHN 💋
Mentally, I'm hearing "The Ecstasy of Gold" as you enter the cemetery and start your search, but once you find your target, it's Robert Plant introducing "John Henry Bonham, Moby Dick."
Within about 45 minutes of where I live are Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. You won't get much time by yourself -- get your photos quickly -- as it seems to be about every five to ten minutes that someone else pulls up to pay their respects.
Dude that's exactly what I was thinking and saying over and over in my head.. (The introduction of Robert Plant Introducing Bonzo at The Royal Albert Hall in 1970) JOHN HENRY BONHAM - """MOBY DICK'""💯✌️
Thanks for uploading this video, if it wasn't for Bonzo I would have never sat down to a Drum kit, even after all these years " the flame still Burns" RIP John you are a rock legend...
Where is this exactly I would love to visit his Grave one day?
No problem! It's in Rushock, Worcestershire at St Michael's parish church.
@@dreamopeth thanks bro, I'm definitely driving down there at some point this year 🤟🤟🤟
His grave is beautiful. How cool pieces of his drum set on his grave. Thats Awesome. ❤😊
Those are what people have put there not from his kit. But I can imagine if it was parts of his kit they wouldn't be there for long..
Yes I miss that drum master.
Looks like we enjoy ourselves live and not death.
I think he would appreciate leaving a bottle of Gin!
Still hard to believe that he's been dead longer than he actually lived. The greatest ever! Was John from the Worcestershire area?
Yes. Born and educated in Redditch, buried in a church graveyard between Kidderminster and Droitwich, about a mile from where he lived.
RIP Bonzo Best ever
It was also on this day that a commemorative statue to Bonham was unveiled in Redditch.
Indeed it was, and I didn't have enough time to go to both. I will go there soon!
😭😭😭😭

Thank you that was amazing.
Your welcome, it was meant to be that a random guy turned up on his bicycle. He took my picture for me next to his grave so I didnt have to do a selfie.
Thanks for doing this bro - Zep changed my life. Thank you, all the way from America, my friend.
Thank you for visiting...
John Bonham baterista do LED Zeppelin foi e é o maior baterista de rock de todos os tempos 🇧🇷🙏🏾🥁☮️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
42 years gone today. RIP Bonzo. The greatest!
Crappy cheap cymbals put on his grave? Leave it alone. He was a drummer, but he was a son a father and a husband. Leave it alone.
This brought a tear to my eye. Thank you Bonzo for making wonderful music.
Love you forever Bonzo.....
Paid my respects there a few years ago, such a spiritual experience. Born same town as plant, met plant, interestingly one of bonhams hotrod that's was stored in the black country has just been sold (Feb 2021) and is on its way to Sydney
Excellent user name Lol, really, it's going all the way to Aussie!! Good to know it would be in a better climate.
@@dreamopeth yea, spent many years being stored correctly not many miles from redditch bonzos home town (as you know). I just wish Jason could have been offered it first maybe keep it in the family, all the best👍🏼🙏🥁
_Thank You_
It is not only John that rests in that grave but Led Zeppelin as well. He was gone long before I was born, but I am so very grateful for the music he helped create that was left for me to hear.
Thank you, John.
One day i will visit his grave, i'm from Northumberland
i get chills, makes me see how truly final death is
Death is not final; no one will escape judgement day.
Amazing! I expected a large tomb but it's simple & peaceful 💕 RIP
I've still yet to visit his memorial in Redditch. I'm sure I will one day
the little car on the tombstone, so nice.
Thanks for that mate
I love Led Zeppelin!!!!!
Plain to know why they disbanded after John Bodhams death.
Nobody could drum Led Zeppelin songs like him.
🙌🏻
Just tragic....like Hendrix and Morrison

The drum master BONZO has a special place in us FANS HEART!!! Anybody that is a ZEPPELIN follower will sadly be down on this DATE!!! HOWEVER BONZO will never be gone....any time frame!!! R.I.P. BONZO!!!

John wasn't buried
Oh ok I didn't realise this.
I'm not very emotional but this is kinda tear jerking.
If only he hadn't passed out drunk that night he'd still be here
Another great drummer in rock thank you bonzo for everything
We miss you Bonzo, Rip Thanks for the video
Taken too soon.
It seems you were a great man.
🍀🌈🥁 great bonzo.
John Burris in the vineyard
Can you park up in the village hall next door to the church ? Am planning a visit myself soon.
Yes, you can park in between the wall of the church and the village hall from what I recall.
Who was he?
Drummer of the greatest rock band of all time, Led Zeppelin
Myself and a friend visited his grave just a few days ago and I was surprised and saddened to see how neglected it's beginning to look, another few years and it will be hard to even read the description on the headstone. Someone should go and clean it up. For a man who inspired so many and cemented his place in rock history, the least he deserves is a bucket of soapy water and a stiff brush? And the headstone is leaning too? Some of the old victorian headstones are in better condition. It's a shame.
I agree, but I think you need permission off family before you do that. Because if someone turned up and unknowingly cleaned it with an acidic cleaner they could really feck it up. So I'd leave it to a professional. I'm sure in time perhaps the Bonham family might upgrade the headstone but it's become a relic in jtself
@@dreamopeth No, I wasn't going to do anything myself, I was just mentioning it as a comment. I hope the family does do something before too long.
