    As a heavier guy that's looking to increase my daily exercise, it's really refreshing to see a 440 lb weight capacity on the Velotric bikes. I realize that acceleration and range are going to be affected by the extra weight but at least I can be confident that the frame isn't going to collapse.

    I have the same ebike, even the same color, and I agree with you, this is a fantastic ebike for the price and it looks great, I have the same problem with the brakes and I also used alcohol but only worked one time and the noise came back. You can unlock the bike if you contact velotric, they send you instructions on how to unlock it but top speed still limited to 23mph, overall great video guys and great ebike for sure.

    I have the Velotric Discover 1 and at the Black Friday price of $1199, it is the best value for a city e-bike available. My fave features are suspension fork, hydraulic disk brakes, automatic brake light, and the 62 mile range. Otherwise it is similar to the Nomad 1. I agree that it rides very well without any electricity. If your route is flat enough, you can probably ride it further than 62 miles, as long as you don't use electricity.

      Anything you don't like about the Discover 1?

    • @pacificostudios
      @pacificostudios Рік тому +2

      @@freshlycharged - I wanted a more swept back seat like a true beach cruiser. But the Discover 1 gives you a Dutch bike kind of ride, which is best for safety. I have heard the bike's headlight isn't very good, but I'm sure it's great for getting the eyes of drivers at night. I haven't ridden it at night.
      My biggest concern was power, as I live on a big hill in southern California. However, I have had no trouble getting it up these hills, as it delivers 850 watts of power with no worries. Yes the motor is rated at just 500 watts, but it is conservatively designed all around. It's a good thing you mentioned the UL listing; the battery doesn't even heat up when you charge it, although I would never overcharge the battery.

      For trail riding, I've been getting a max range of 35 miles in Pedal Assist level 4. I pushed it to 36 miles and I had to push my bike up that big hill by my condo. Still, a 35 mile bike ride is much longer than I ever rode on an unpowered bike, and equates to a two and a half hour ride.
      For the next version, I would like Velotric to consider installing a larger front chain wheel so it can be pedaled 20% faster in PAS 4. If you want to ride 20 MPH, one must employ PAS 5 because 7th gear isn't tall enough assuming one is pedaling about 60 RPM, which is the most efficient for riders.

    The bike looks awesome, but the petal assist quirk really kills it for me. They should allow riders to switch to whichever method they prefer.

    • @pacificostudios
      @pacificostudios Рік тому

      You do have that option. Just ride in pedal assist level 5. You can motor with it. The feature just guarantees that your bike won't get out of control when you use the throttle.

    • @pacificostudios
      @pacificostudios Рік тому

      @@Rucker99 - Yes. Personally, I ride my Velotric Discover 1 in PAS 4. But I really appreciate PAS 5 when I have to ride in traffic with cars. But if you are strong enough, you can ride without any battery assist. I've tried and I can't.
      I haven't done the math, but I guess if you ride at PAS 1 you will go farther than PAS 4 or 5, but it will take you twice as long because you'll be cruising about 10 MPH. The pedal assist is a real feature when I'm riding by the beach, avoiding pedestrians. When you don't pedal, you're just rolling, like on a regular bike.

    Cool review. I LIKE plastic fenders much more than metal. Especially when they're gigantic, they're going to get abused.
    AND, that huge axle extension would be a great place to carry a load (luggage rack foundation/mount).
    I know these tires are a necessary compromise. But, I'd rather force road tires to perform off road, than expect trail tires to be dependable on adverse road conditions. Depends on the application, but other than getting the best saddle, getting the right tires makes a huge difference.
    Nevertheless, this bike looks like a good deal.

    Gives a nice fight to my Pathfinder that is also very comfy. But the clean design of this bike is impressive. I wish it had a bigger battery. Also the throttle quirk is annoying as I twist the throttle only occasionally for more power on a short incline

  • @chow-chihuang4903

    Great review. For those of us newbies, as petal assist levels increase the motor is helping more? In that case, the throttle only speed is most on the highest setting? Kind of makes sense to me…but 20 seems low. Would be curious to know if Andrew ‘cracked it’.

But I'm wondering if you could review any trikes the seated electric standard trike not the recumbent or direct me to anyone that does that because after looking online I really don't see any. I see the usual three suspects and then some suspect fat tire trikes that are no names and reviews are not to be found.
    It was really looking for some with differential drives. Like I said it may not be in your guys wheelhouse but if you could direct me to anyone who had different trikes other than Admotors?☺️

    I've watched nearly every video on this bike and no one talks about how SLOW it can go. Wondering if I can comfortably do 3 or 4 mph while holding my dog's leash? Is the accelerator subtle enough to handle a low speed? I do that every day on my nimble 20" ebike, but it doesn't like hills. I want to move up in size and power but not at the expense of not being able to go slow when my dog and I feel like it. Any thoughts? For instance, on PAS1, could I occasionally do a 1/4 rotation, or would it immediately slingshot me to 8.5 mph?
    Great video, btw. Thank you for it. Makes me want a Nomad 1 all the more.

    i bought a nomad 1 from velotric and it took an entire month to ship, when i finally received it the box was beat to heck and the bikes probably broken inside the box, trying right now to ship it back and they are giving me the run around and now saying that i need to send pics of the box or they need to charge me a restocking fee, still trying to work through this and get this bike back to them but they have horrible customer service, horrible shipping speed and when you call them no one answers. i do not recommend this brand at all and this is an honest review, i hope no one else runs into these problems i have and hope this reply saves someone from these problems. there is really a reason all these youtube vids have sponsored links, every single youtube vid has a sponsored link so these con-men youtubers can get their kickback, watchout for this company and buy something else trust me

      Pedaling charge or regenerative braking are low-efficient ways to charge, the reason we don't design our motor that way.

    You mention possibly unlocking this e-bike for higher speed. Just know they are the only e-bike company that takes away your warranty if you unlock and use it to its fullest potential. Horribly silly , yes. So in other words they do not stand behind there product. I have seen many companies do everything they can to get out of there warranty but this is the worst I’ve seen. So just be mindful if you buy this you cannot use it too its fullest. By now its also clear to get the most out of pedal assist you need a freewheel cassette down to 11 tooth. Chainring must be minimum 52 tooth. I cannot get over how a company can tell you that if you use a product in the way its built they will not stand by the warranty. No words to how silly that is. Did they figure no one would read the fine print and figure that out
