and don't get it confused that just because a child was born "Nkrumah" (9) or "Badu"(10) doesn't mean the parents had 9/10 children by themselves.it could mean the child was the 9th/10th of the whole family.ie.2 sisters having 10 children all together will mean their children will be numbered according to the order/number they were born
Great content! We can go deeper by saying the kradin is related to the Akradinbosom which govern the seven day week. Are you familiar with the Akradinbosom?
Thank you for that -expecting a half ghanian-boy and it's good to understand the importance of the names, didn't know it was a tradition that was kinda stolen through colonizers
As black people in general, let us not just talk these things randomly. There is a mystery and wisdom in names. Let us not just talk about names. But let us also seriously break the influential cycles of the colonizers by taking an active role to seriously start naming African names to the next generation of our children. Education is empowering. Let us not just talk about these things but let us also seriously start taking active role or be proactive to implement them so we can bring about real change. Greetings from Haiti 🇭🇹
You have done well but you have mixed things here. The Akan consist of the Bono, Asante, Adanse, Twifo, Asen, Fante, Akuapem, Akyem, Akwamu, Kwahu, Sehwi, Awowin, Nzima and Ahanta. It doesn't necessarily mean they are in those regions that you mentioned. Again we have about seven name groups in the Akan tribe. The Akans believe every child has two mothers, one on the earth and one in the spiritual world, so if a child is born, it takes 8 days for him or her to be named by the father, but this name is taken from the grandfather of the child by his father. The reason is that, in 8 days they believe that the chance of the child staying to the world without going back is higher. And also the father is the only one who can name the child because we believe the blood that covers the child is from the father "Ntɔn" or "Ntorɔ" Groups of these day are; Kra Din Dinpa Apɛntendin Mmrane din Adwuma Din Mmrɛ din Awoɔ ntɔsoɔ Din. As you said, the first name the child gets is immediately after birth on the day he or she is born. Eg. Kwadwo, Adwoa etc NOTE: if both parents have same-day birth and give birth to a child on the same day as theirs, this child is called " Akraba". Eg. Mother- Akua + Father- Kwaku = Akraba Also if parents give birth to boys on the same "day of born eg. Akwasi first child and second also Akwasi, this second boy will be called Akwasi Biowoɔ The family name is given to the child by his grandfather. Eg. Agyapong, Danso, Agyei, Amankwaa etc. Apɛntendin: In this case, this child is believed to be coming to the world and returning anyhow hence, we are not going to give the child a sweet name that will help him or her stay because if they give this child a sweet name he must be going and coming to disturb the parents. Eg. Asaaseasa, Sumina, Donkor, Manhyia, Ababio etc Mmrane Din: Every name in Akan has its aspiration so names like, Effah- Guakro, Aboagyewaa- Kente, Amoah- Ankaagya, Osei- Tutu, Danso- Abeam, Agyeiwaa- Ɔkɔdeɛ, Frimpong - Manso etc Names were also given to people according to their Occupation, e.g. Papa Soldier, Papa Police, Maame Nurse, Agya Carpenter, etc. Mmrɛ din: Situational Names: e.g. Anto means the child was born and never saw the father, Adiyiya means the child suffered in birth, Ampɛdworɔ- means the child doesn't want problems or is innocent, Afriyie means came in good condition etc. Awoɔ ntɔsoɔ: Biako, Manu, Mansa, Anane, Nnum, Nsia, Nsowaa, Nnwɔtwewaa, Nkrumah, Badu, Duaku. etc.
