Lyrics:
Well I was born and raised by the river
Slowly it flows through this city of knives
Not too far from the mountain that shivers
Folks work so hard and they stay all their lives
And people in this city call us love
And people in this city call you love
Just as the sparrow sing soft in the morning
The Speedwell lady kisses old Blue John
Why burn and burn and grieve in the forging
From Loxley, Sheaf, Porter, Rivelin and Don
And people in this city call us love
And people in this city call you love
But it’s a lonely lonely lonely lonely love
I lost my only only only only love
Twelve hours a day by the furnace and forges
Sands don’t shift Lord he wishes he was dead
Crawling home in the cold of the morning
My baby’s warm and waiting in bed
And people in this city call us love
And people in this city call you love
See old crow she flies o’er the graveyard
Her ancient song mighty bird of death
Won't be long before the hammers are calling
Steel City folks fight for every breath
And people in this city call us love
And people in this city call you love
But it’s a lonely lonely lonely lonely love
I lost my only only only only love
It gets so lonely lonely lonely lonely love
To lose your only only only hope of love
And Truelove is the hardest of goals
And Truelove is the harvest of gold
And people in this city call you love

This had me in tears when I first heard it. Makes me think of my late Dad coming home after a shift at British Steel. I can almost smell the metal and tobacco.
Honestly Richard, I think this is one of the most beautiful songs that you ever wrote, and that I have ever listened to.
I like Richard but actually this is a very poor track. I'll listen to the rest of the album but so far I am not impressed
No it isn't! Sadly I think BMG I'll behind all these comments. It is not a bad album it really isn't very good
@@IanPortlandHill-de6vq you just have poor taste, that's all. Everyone who has taste think it's one of his best albums. I am real and not paid by anyone.
Reminds me of my Dad coming back home from the steelworks after his night shift.
When you hear a new song and it feels like you’ve know it all your life
It's often the case with Richard's songs..
Love ❤ it! Made in Sheffield ❤ Steel souls with big hearts ❤ #wawaw 😊
A very special song. We love, we lose and we love again. Keep the faith.
A love letter to the people of Sheffield.
Moving, beautiful...the way only he can paint a picture with his music.
Made me smile today when it came on while I was walking my dog, it's wonderful thanks Richard ❤🎉
Fabulous ! Richard Hawley you are amazing - and Sheffield should be proud of your consistent talent and ability to transport us to lovely Sheffield we oldies remember as we grew. Brilliant album love ! X
What a song. What. A. Song.
It reminds me of the similarly contemplative and ruminative ‘A Ghost I Became’ by Richmond Fontaine.
Love this, went and bought the 7” as soon as heard it
Incredible singer songwriter roll on my next Richard Hawley gig, see you in Scarborough Richard.
Class . Real Class. Richard your music never fails to hit the spot. Thanks for This Wonderful Upload. Regards Frank
I am very concerned that BMG are providing these comments. This is not a good album at all you're all good but the song is really are banal
Beauty makes my soul beat with the heartbreak
Beautifully Sad and brilliant
Oh dear. Everyone is saying this is great album. I can only think the record company is behind it. The songs are not bad but they really are not good. An album that really no one should buy
Proud Sheffield man. What a talent.
I just picked up one of my guitars to learn and play along with this song and it’s basically a (G)major to an (a) minor until the bridge that changes to a (c) major and then back to (g) major; other than that I think towards the end the last few (a) minors change to a major. As a songwriter I have to say these songs that musically might be a bit simplistic but yet the vocal Melodie’s are much more complex have to be some of the hardest songs to write! One of my favorites from this latest collections of his songs.
Really digging this new album. I think it’s his best since Hollow Meadows.
Agree
Typical rich and the band..CLASS....
