From Middleton Ave. (coming on the island from Swains Cut Bridge), continue straight to access the beach side of the island. Turning left onto Beach Drive takes you to the East beach side. You can also access this side of the island from the scenic walkways and via SE 40th Street. After SE 40th Street, there is almost a beach access every block. This side of the island allows for easy beach access.
    3rd Pl E - 37th Pl E
When you turn left onto E Beach Drive the streets that run N-S, that connect Beach Drive, Dolphin and Pelican start with 3rd Pl E and go up to 37th Pl E. The closer to 3rd Pl E you are, the closer to Middleton Ave and the closer to 37th Pl E you are, the closer you are to SE 40th st and the commercial area of Oak Island.
    SE Beach
Once you get to SE 40th Street, if you have a SE address you are on the beach side. From SE 40th Street - SE 79th Street, you are located on East Beach. Most of these streets have direct beach accesses.
    Pelican & Dolphin
    E. Pelican and E. Dolphin Run West to East. E. Pelican is closer to the Davis Canal or E Oak Island Drive and E. Dolphin in closer to W. Beach Drive and therefore the beach. E. Beach Drive runs along the beach front from the Point (West Beach) - SE 58th St. Pelican and Dolphin run (almost) from Middleton Ave. - SE 58th Street.
    Yaupon Beach - East Beach
This area consist of named streets: Crowell St., Sherill St., Barbee Blvd., Womble St., Mercer St., Sellers St., and McGalmery St. Along these streets you can determine how close to the beach you are by looking at the house numbers. The higher in the 200's you are the closest to the beach you are, 300's are located on the South Side of East Oak Island Drive and North of Live Oak Drive, meaning you are still close to the beach but farther than in the 200's. The 400's are located North of East Oak Island Drive, meaning you have to cross over East Oak Island Drive to get to the beach. On the East Beach side of this area the street, Live Oak runs through the middle of these named streets and connects to Country Club Road. These Streets all have direct beach access. Womble Street is where one of my favorite places on the island is, Oak Island Pier and KoKo Cabana!

Hello!! I’ll be in Oak Island next week. NE 35th St. between E Oak Island Dr and E Holly Dr. what is best way for us to go to the beach? 😂 looks like I’ll have to walk over to the 29th walkover or walk the other way to 40th St or just drive to Middleton Park and use that to park and walk to beach? We would rather find a quieter non busy area of beach as well 😂

Anywhere around 40th Street is typically busy. If you rent a golf cart or decide to drive you can go down to the West Beach or on the East side, Caswell Beach.

I'm coming down in June with my granddaughters, are there any water parks that we can attend near the island

There is a great splash pad on Oak Island. There is also Magic Mountain Water Slide near Holden Beach. How old are your granddaughters?

@@thomasdill762 - the splash pad might be too young for them! They would like Magic Mountain Slide. If you want a bigger water park there is jungle rapids in Wilmington and everyone loves going to Myrtle Waves Water Park in Myrtle Beach SC. That's an easy day trip!
