- This video is about Phillip Island Track Day - 9 March 2020 - Session 4
VFR800 '99 fitted with Staintune exhaust, air box modes, Power Commander, Brembo disks and pads, Galfer braided lines, Wilbers suspension, Metzeler M7 tyres.
Filmed using GoPro Hero 6 and loaded into Dashware to overlay speed and track.
Others can probably lap faster, but I don't want to scratch it, and at 65 don't want to scratch myself and my leathers.
As a VFR lover and having been on Phillip island with Aust. Super bike school I enjoyed your footage very much. Thanks.
Thanks for putting the microphone out of the wind, and no music for goodness sake! Sounds good. Nice riding.
Love my 2000 VFR. Such a great handling bike. Drops into corners so sooth and easy. Got a Kerker can on mine and the snorkel removed. Sweet sound and sweet bike. Great bike for sport touring.
This is beautiful, makes me want to play a good racing game. That hud overlay is fantastic.
This one is a better sound recording ua-cam.com/video/Rij2Qf-qDU0/v-deo.html, turn it up load
Nice smooth ride, but one thing.... please give this clutch some love, you're engaging it way too soon so your engine revs every gear change.
thing about the vfr, it's got a heavy deceleration /pull at the rear wheel when you gear down or let of the throttle in regardless of the gear along with some back lash.Mine anyway. Uncomfortable feeling. when I'm pushing it ind myself slightly feathering the clutch accelerating out of the corner.
@@serramesabill2160 What I meant by above comment is mainly about straights. While you're accelerating hard, it's important to not engage clutch before letting off the gas. I would definitely try to pre-engage gear level as well just before clutch as well. This way you almost doing it without clutch at all.
Not hating at all, just there is always room for an improvement! :D
Do you mean that he's releasing or pulling in that clutch too quick? A newbie here :)
@@zhen-yuanli1097 Pulling the clutch too quickly.
I had no idea a 20 year old bike could be so fast:D
I’ve got one and I’d forgotten how great they sound 👍
You will love this one, I set up a mic under the rear cowl. Turn up the sound. ua-cam.com/video/Rij2Qf-qDU0/v-deo.html. Tops out at 220kmh
What you got?
Sounds and goes well. Your gear changes at higher revs could be a lot smoother.
Sadly Staintune exhausts have recently stopped trading.
Session from 22 dec ‘20 is a much better sound track
Awesome view putting the camera there. Gotta get my 5th gen to a track... I love it dearly
Same here, but could I live on were it to get thrashed? Hard to find nice ones these days.
3:03 I have the same bike, you're capable of being faster in your corners, keep er in the power band, 6500 and up to 10k. I can push mine harder than that on the back roads here in southern Illinois US. Also I don't know if you've messed with your suspension or not but those factory forks need to be stiffen up a little bit probably. Also I know that one and a half rotations from full hard is stock. I think I have my castle preload nut and my rear suspension spring up to I believe six now. The bike handles amazing after the suspension was dialed in right for me I just had to practice and see what different setups worked for me but as long as you've got about the same damper effect and travel preload between the front in the back when you push on the middle of the bike, you pretty close to even. Thing road like a whole new bike after that I didn't have to wrestle the clip ons anymore. It's easy to whip the bike from left to right in an s-curve now and my most familiar roads I've probably picked up 20% increase in cornering ability and speed in places where I used to have to back off a lot sooner. Mine is an 01 Gen 5 800. I also did the flapper mod he pulled the snorkel out from the airbox for the thing to breathe, always not just when the flaps open! Most of those track tires you'll find actually are at their best gripping power when they're slipping a little bit, once warmed of course...
Just great stuff!! I have a 2001 VFR, with a Micron exhaust. Love it still! Although, I have been thinking about the Aprilia Tuono with the V4. Just wish Honda would get back to a proper V4 sport bike. 1000 cc would be fun and being Honda, reliable!
Thanks for sharing. Looks like a great day.
My stock 99 made 100 rwhp. A slip-on brought it to 105 and a full system (Erion Racing) made nearly 110. PC3 fuel tuner.
I could listen to this as a podcast. Well done mate. You captured that hungry growl perfectly
I'd be even more impressed if you lot used proper mph everything looks fast in kph lol cba converting lol
Thanks - this one is a better recording with a Rode mic in the rear cowl. ua-cam.com/video/Rij2Qf-qDU0/v-deo.html
Are You using Race Chrono App , or smth ? + GoPro 5 or higher ???
Hello and thanks for the video! Which model gear indicator do I need for my 99 VFR?
Healtech GIPro X-type G2 with a GPX-H01 wiring harness, comes in red, white, green, blue or yellow display. I'd suggest white, works very well even in bright sunlight. Plugs into your speedo wiring harness, you have to splice into the tacho signal. www.healtech-electronics.com/docs/GPX-H01_InstallGuide_en.pdf
Mine fits on top of the dash because the MRA screen has a small hump that allows it to fit.
@@carla3627 Thanks for the advice! Good riding to you
@@carla3627 I really appreciate your valuable insight with the gear indicator. I was thinking white digital display also.
very nicely done !!!!
Got one it's got plenty of grunt in all gears when I give it some welly I don't use the clutch only at lower speeds

Hey! Nice ride! :) Can you give me any details about your gear indicator? Thx
Healtech www.healtech-electronics.com also make a quick shifter that I have fitted to the CBR600RR
65? Ur a legend mate. By any chance would i have passed you and a group of 5th gens on the sunday in 2019? On the way to the island? Was fruitlessly yelling and throwing hand signals from my own viffer as I passed the group
Was trying to tell you guys to swing past my bar for some service lol
Nice riding 👨🏻🚀👌🏼 Still have the VFR?
Yes. It's a keeper.
You are doing OK, mate. Kudos! I have an FIX also. It has a few more mods than yours, but there comes a time when you ask "Do I risk binning the P&J, or do I get something - shall we say - more "track-able" (and thus "bin-able")? Thumbs up!
Thanks. Bike is 21 years old and I'm 66, so don't want to scratch either, but the old girl still performs well, and sounds great.
@@carla3627 I'm 52 and mine is 21 too, I love it and it still makes me chuckle ,all the best MadMalc
looks like he went around those guys with the more " trackable" bikes
Solved with a quick shifter.
Nice ridning 👍
Have you done any mods on the bike to ride at track?
Cheers
None, even fitted with cruise control.
Awesome 👍
Such a nice soundtrack spoiled by non rev matching downshifts...
Gopro 6 & 7 for the GPS data, www.race-technology.com/us/gopro is better software, stitches the GoPro files correctly. This is a sample ua-cam.com/video/Rij2Qf-qDU0/v-deo.html
10:17 sounds like a stukka after u
Needs work on gear changes, need to learn to blip throttle on downshift too.
That botched shifting hurts my heart. Either learn how to shift without the clutch or get an ignition iterrupting gear shifter, please.
WTF is this shifting... 🤮🤮
