Governments and their monopolies have never been good at running anything and have never provided good value or accountability. If a private company with a union wants to bid for this contract great, let them compete.
I was there in 2010 working for Toronto Water. And after the strike was over we spent three months fixing the mistakes the contractors made
My father worked for Toronto Water at that time and he was saying the same thing.
Same time the truckers strike was going on the city cleaners got contracted out at police stations now I hear they are hiring city cleaners back because they have issues with contractors

Do private collectors actually pick up on time?
MY garbage is always picked up in the morning, so yes.
I'm a homeowner in the former City of York on the border of North York and, "once the bugs were ironed out" when GFL Environmental took over residential waste collection west of Yonge St. in 2011, it has consistently been very good service for garbage, recycling and yard waste collections. GFL is a class-act operation in the solid waste industry.
I’m going to live in Toronto just for the costs and attractions and walkable streets and the transit and the food!
Just saw a clip about Toronto overfilled street garbage bins looking like garbage! Been in this beautiful country of Canada for almost Forty years...never saw this before!
Recently the Govt keeps dragging in garbage...by the TONNES!

People seem to have forgotten the famous strike which elected Rob Ford as Mayor ... People got sick and tired of public service and workers right/fair pay and homeowners wanted private service.
I want a vacation from the rising cost
It was all Rob Ford wanting to give his buddies a deal
Because its cheaper and they were doing the job instead of going on strike every few months.

@@Erich2142Ima tell you something you need to hear out and I know your comment is old but whatever, Privatization of any public services is a horrible cause… It does nothing to save residents money and locks taxpayers into contracts that are ripping their wallets out of more money every year in the form of constant 7-10% rate increases without justification for the increase. With the public services, it’s cheaper, cost effective and your money you pay every month to the city goes right back into those services meaning the city uses that same money you paid for services to pay for cans, fuel and trucks.
Your point is wrong… Trust me, the private sectors mafia is not cheap and never will be.

Why gfl gets all the contracts
Because it’s all money.. The city is well aware that these people are incredible monopolies that will bully their way into a contract. The city gets paid I assume higher then any other company by GFL
