I feel like other luxury uk UA-camrs are so unrealistic. We’re not all born into rich families or have rich husbands some of us have full time 8-6 jobs that we break our backs to be able to afford luxury items. You’re so much more real and relatable starting as a cleaner, you talk about debt and aren’t embarrassed to say you’ve been in it. I have so much respect for you. Your channel will always be so much more special to me because you’re just a normal hardworking empowering woman! Love you for that 💕

I think many of them just spend money that they don't have to get their channels going. Remember, this a show, not real life.

I love how you promote working. Although you make UA-cam videos you work as well. It's so humbling and hopefully passing on the message to people that you do have to work hard to earn good money, and never settle for less. I'm not bad mouthing other UA-camr's and I understand they work hard but a lot of them make it look easy and look like they do little but have a amazing life. ♥️

Yes! It makes everything seem that much more unattainable, because a lot of us aren't born rich, and aren't full-time UA-cam celebrities. I like her channel because it's general advice about working harder irrespective of whatever job you have, in order to get the things you want. Very motivational stuff

I sold two bags and saved up a bit more to buy my Chanel jumbo ( last Wednesday) and I regret not purchasing the Chanel any sooner. Instead I bought a Chanel mini one and a half years ago which I wasn’t using, as I use bigger bags way more often, and something else that I regret purchasing. This was actually the only two times I regretted something. I always really plan my purchases well and I never buy trendy bags. I just prefer the more timeless pieces. And when I bought the Chanel mini I didn’t realize I wasn’t going to use it a lot. But I wasn’t going out a lot anymore and it was lambskin so I was afraid to use it. So you really need a little checklist for yourself when you’re considering saving up for a bag and don’t get distracted. I think it’s so much fun to save up for a luxury purchase and see the amount grow. Xoxo

Just had a talk with my daughter explaining the advantages of saving for a mortgage instead of renting. It's a long road but she's just got a good job and is only 18, so she is in a position while living at home to save without the outgoings of house insurance, maintenance and bills etc. Me and my husband paid off our first mortgage after four years and it was all down to clever investment and saving/spending wisely!

Wow that's amazing, could you please elaborate on how you guys paid off your mortgage in 4 years? Any tips welcome :)
I am 32 now and have saved about 1/3 of the deposit for a home (started last year only...!), hopefully I'll be able to own at around 35... I was such a spender in my twenties and my parents have rented all their lives so it took me a while to see mortgages as an investment into your propety rather than a financial burden.

@@pAsDeNoMzUt Hi, well it was 25 years ago, so yr mortgage was only £40,000 which isn't a lot by today's prices, but we used to pay large sums of money off our mortgage, so we would save chunks of money up and then pay a few thousand off. We were lucky to get double holiday pay and profit sharing from the company we worked for. Also we always payed our credit card off each month, and didn't get loans for anything. You're doing well so far! Good luck for the future! Xx

FANTASTIC video with great information! I don't mind that you retouch on this subject to help us stay focused and stick with our goals, whatever it may be. Very encouraging and thank you so much for pointing out the secrets of IG and UA-camrs. Sometimes we accidentally have these negative thoughts with jealousy or envy, without knowing how not to be stuck in the situation we are in and to be where these UA-camrs are.
I find that you are the very rare UA-camr who is absolutely honest and share true information and when you don't want to share due to some privacy/security issue, you are so honest and up-front about it. I truly wish we are close friends. Not for your luxury things, but I love a friend who is driven by their career and who continue to be real.

I believe the luxury items are meant to be for the people who can buy it with their spear money without having to save for years. If you do have to save for years for an item, just buy something less expensive instead! The contemporary brands only cost 10% of the premier price tag but still serve the same purpose. Nothing worth for saving so hard expect real estate and education.

In relation to your question; what's really weird is that about 10 minutes ago I put live a new video on the points you mention (it's about how to get discounts on these items). Vestiaire Collective is where I have shopped for pre-loved, I have also bought 1 item from ebay but only because it had the receipt etc. You should also check Dior mens if you haven't already; their leather goods and clothes are really well priced (£185 for a card holder vs £285 in womenswear!!) For sure check out that video though because it goes into great detail and has lots of examples xxx

If it will take you two years to save up for a Chanel bag, perhaps that price range isn’t feasible for you at the moment. What you can do is:
    1. Work hard for a lifestyle that is sustainable for your expenditures
    2. Stay in the price range that you’re currently comfortable in until you’ve climbed up the income ladder.
I don’t mean to be discriminating, but fashion unfortunately is not as accessible as social media makes it out to be.
Luxury at the end of the day should be the last thing you put your money into.

I hired her just once a week to do the major things. I found myself cleaning before she'd come over ( didn't want her thinking we were slobs!) Lol.....after only a month I told her we didn't need her anymore. I can't remember my excuse. Investment wasn't part of this video. What the OP (and I) are talking about is dollar cost averaging into a 401K or other retirement fund, making even small individual stock purchase typically into an indexed mutual fund, purchasing real estate, or investing money into a business. Dollar cost averaging is simply investing the same amount routinely knowing that some stock purchases will be more $ and some will be less $, but over time it will average out. This is the opposite of day trading where you are chasing the best price--not a game for amateurs. Growing wealth is not a big mystery. It's about investing small amounts over a long period of time. When I started investing into an index fund (after I had maxed out my 401K option) it was with $25.00 a week that I pulled together by saying "no" to all kinds of easy to blow money on stuff. That was about 20 years ago and my shares in the fund are now worth 600X what I paid for them. The first place to start is with your 401K especially if you have a decent match from you employer. After that, even $50.00 a month ($600.00 per year) invested into a no-load mutual fund will surprise you in ten years at how much it is worth. If you want to save for a house rather than retirement, consider a Roth option where the money is after tax so when you cash out that fund to cover your downpayment the only tax burden is on the income rather than the principal. Did this help?

Sophie, you are a lovely person. But if people cannot afford to buy such a bag from a regular income and have really to save for the purchase, it is the worst piece of advice to suggest to save for luxury consumption, which is out of one's income range. Savings should be dedicated for development and future, like education/ self-development /repaying the debt/. Saving for a designer bag is consumption and would not bring one further.

I always love your videos. I stay at home with my kids, and the household income isn't huge. For me, it would either be have children, or save (for probably a decade!) to get a Chanel bag. I know I won't ever have the chance to own them. I appreciate your chanel and watching what it's like to have luxury things, but at the same time, I'm content with my life. Everyone has different priorities, but though the money is tight here, we're really happy.

As long as there is laughter - that helps us get through things like a tight budget. Just this morn I remember my Gran saying, " there is poor and then there is dirt poor." Luckily most of us are poor so it pays to be grateful. Ka-ching! Some families are so poor that they eat dirt/mud - because there are minerals that the body can use.

Everyone in English speaking countries praises Ebay. I moved from the UK to Germany and here Ebay doesn't work at all. In general, selling used items doesn't work. I've had very cheap priced items up for sale here and people offered me half the price, or less. I feel in Germany people haggle like crazy, they want everything for free. And especially with Ebay, here it's full of Chinese retailers that sell new stuff from Asia. I checked out other platforms but it's not much better...

I love this content Sophie: I'm not saving for luxury, but I am trying to pay off my mortgage in 5 years (!) as well as saving to invest in another property before moving to Germany in two years. I earn decent money, but I still live like a student! Over 50% of my income goes to either mortgage overpayment or savings, and because of your tips I've also had the confidence to ask for a pay rise, which I am getting and is going to be backdated for 12 months (!!). Once I have paid off the mortgage I am going to buy myself a Rick Owens leather jacket, the only piece of luxury that I truly want

Good feminist video! What changed my financial life was getting out of the rent trap. It was not easy but when I hear about other women paying exorbitant rents, I encourage them to make it a priority too. Can't count on a man to solve your housing problem. Plus, even if you do meet that guy and he has a nice place and you move into it, you'll have that extra rental income to buy luxury fashion!

OMG Sophie thank you so much!!!!! I’ve been trying to save for a Burberry trench for so long. I have some accessories, but still they are very nice but its not what I want. I work at a florist as a cleaners but she doesn’t hire me often so not a lot is coming in. So i love clothes and fashion. I am so going to try that ebay thing like have a little shop and on several sites. REALLY THANK YOU SO SO MUCH

I consolidated my loans this year, and the difference in interest means that if i save the difference in repayments at the end of the 4 years paying my new loan i will have saved over 5k (and thats AFTER the interest i calculated). Definitely look into moving loans if you find something lower interest.
I wish i could ask for a raise haha but thats not how it works in my company. You basically have to wait for someone to retire and a position to open up -_- but i LOVE my job so thats ok. I try to only buy thing after ive sold existing things i no longer use or wear, which definetly helps!
Thank you for this video Sophie! They always inspire me to keep on track with savings. The only issue i have is spending the money once I have it haha! Im a bit of a hoarder and like seeing the numbers go up haha.

That is what I did. I'm a housewife, my husband who's working overseas gave me 500€ each week for our food allowance for me and for our son. I don't want to ask money for my luxury items from my husband. Therefore, each week, I saved any amount left from 500€. In less than a year, I saved enough to buy for 8 SLG, 1 keychain, 1 bandeau and 1 clapton backpack from Louis Vuitton. Now, I'm saving for another purchase like silk scarf, sandals and sunglasses from Louis Vuitton again 😊 savings are fun! and worth waiting for. 👍

How I save for my luxury bags is by buying and selling other luxury bags. I try to find "steals" online and sell them for more. One month I made $3k for selling 3 Chanel purses that I bought on the resale market and sold for more. I just bought my first Hermes Evelyne TPM. If you want something, you will find a way to get it!

To be completely honest here. If you are born with a silver spoon in your mouth, go buy whatever luxury you want. If you have to save and give up other things in life for a luxury item......i mean, what is the point of owning a $5000 chanel bag with $50 cash inside of it???

Right!I'm savings for a Chanel bag for my birthday in may so everyone week I put a certain amount in my saving I divided a weekly amount I need to put up and it's easier I don't want to use credit card at all. I went up on 15% In my astrology business. And donate things or sell things I dont fit. And i refuse to buy things i do not need.

Your full of good advice so maybe you could help me or do a related video on the topic. I'm studying cipd level 5 for hr qualification. I've got lots of experience in hr but not under that job title. Would you recommend applying for jobs at the bottom of the ladder I.e.hr administrator to get my foot in the door. Or keep applying for hr advisor roles that my studying is more relevant to. If I take a step too far backwards will it actually harm my cv ? ❤
