The problem with assigning cost to things like healthcare and housing and food (at least in a completely free market) is something called "elastic cost". It means, these things have infinite demand. What would you pay to live? Or eat? Be in a safe space? And the corporations have figured this out. Also: "like portland" - after the last few months I almost believe you have a crystal ball. That is, if I didn't know the ideas behind those events were already in motion before... but it is uncanny.
Scarcity no matter what will be a thing for some resource or other. the idea of post scarcity is normally referring to for necessities of normal life. it's a possibility if we think in the most optimistic way we possibly can about the future without literally abandoning reason and everything we know, to have a huge abundance of everything people need for everyday civilian life, enough that we dont need to charge for reasonable amounts of it. What will never happen is a society where everything comes free. Something will always be in high demand and scarce.
Yet no alternative means to addressing scarcity is used. It's always prices. If anyone is interested in a moneyless alternative of determining supply and demand, comment below
Limited resources means unlimited wealth. If there is always a limit, there is a demand that creates value, which creates wealth through trade. It really shouldn't be hard to grasp this....but apparently it is.

@@illbeyourmonster1959 Do you consider yourself a libertarian? I'm starting to think that this ideology presents problems in a superficial light that can be easily solved by a self serving policy that only takes advantage of the problem to better only themselves at the expense of everyone else, but doesn't actually solve it or adress it. Your statement on greenhouse gas emmisions benefiting plant life while ignoring all the other problems with a rapid rise in CO2 in the atmosphere is kind of telling me that's the case.
This new style of making the show is awesome!😊
I low key got hypnotized by that chicken. 😂
There's no proof that you didn't!
2:50 bob is choking a chicken
2:50 hold on, where did that chicken come from?!
Jokes on you I'm watching this In my bathroom break.
An intertaining way to explain an important topic.
If something is free, YOU are the product.

Small gripe: the way your describing opportunity cost could lead people to believe it is the sum of all other options, when really it is just the total benefits of the next best alternative.
Tbf, we already did another video exclusively about opportunity cost. But this is true, it isn't a cost of "any option you can imagine" but of those that you actually have.
The only thing there's no scarcity of is people like Bob
The Portland joke was ahead of its time
I don't remember now what city was in the first draft, but we had a different place in that joke originally. I grew up in the Portland area, and my folks live there now, so I made it a point to change it. Glad I did.

Great video. Even people I trust and listen to, don’t understand how scarcity works
This video is in favor of artificial scarcity and consumerism to try to sustain and unsustainable system.
@@me-ye6ld perfect example of someone who knows nothing but thinks they are smarter than everyone else.
Portland 🤣
What did they do nuke portland
Bob has come such a long way.
3:27 I love how this predicts the future to a point where it's not even funny but still funny because it's fact XD
The only way we could ever eliminate scarcity is if we had Star Trek style replicators. Even then, thermodynamics and entropy are in the way.
Also: "like portland" - after the last few months I almost believe you have a crystal ball. That is, if I didn't know the ideas behind those events were already in motion before... but it is uncanny.
"I was thinking more like Portland..." wow LOL
This is amazing!!
That portland joke aged very well
When the chicken started talking, i felt like i was watching an episode of Home Movies, style wise.
I guess the sad thing is we could end world hunger quite early. But yeah
Hologram is Shamus, calling it now.
This actually disproves the "thanos is wrong" videos (if you take the logic all the way) AND undermines even the other videos of this series.
nope
that Seamus can predict the future theory holds some water
There are definitely artificial scarcities created by central planning
The problem is when the government creates more scarcity through legislation, thus driving prices artificially higher.
WEF moment
Hypnotising chickens is awesome and fun
>Portland uninhabited
This video was ahead of its time
You had me at talking chicken.
Limited resources means unlimited wealth. If there is always a limit, there is a demand that creates value, which creates wealth through trade. It really shouldn't be hard to grasp this....but apparently it is.
The Pixilation Hurts Mah Eyes!!!!
I've seen enough Japanese pornography to know where all that pixelation is going.
The only way I see us ever becoming a post-scarcity society is if we create genuine Replicator tech like from Star Trek.
I love these videos, but I gotta ask, what is this music thats used in virtually every Common Sense Soapbox video? I love it and want to hear it seperate from the video.
It's called "It's Always Funny in Philadelphia" and you can find it at Premium Beat.
@@FEEonline Thank you so much! Keep the good uploads going, hopefully these videos reach those that need to hear it most.
3:11 what in the seven realms is "flag nar syndrome" ??
Taco flavored ring pops.
That's scarily believable nowadays.
A Seamus hologram?
ACTUALLY...
Casual shade at Portland is well warranted.
Medicare has premiums and deductibles, with it only covers 80% after the deductible is met.
I was thinking more like, Portland. Lol
"Portland" slam, got a thumbs up. All by itself.
Next time on common sense soapbox: Seamus makes a return as a hologram!
He's still in Antarctica and it's green yet Portland is a desert... Think about it, it's probable that the desert latitude and rainforest latitudes have moved up thanks to global warming (if they managed it correctly that is, otherwise the rainforest would also retreat) so instead of 25° they may be at 50° and that explains both Antarctica green and Portland as a desert
Seamus is obviously a hologram in the museum
Arrest all chickens, or they'll hypnotize us all!
These videos are so far from reality and truly absurd...
No woman with red and blue hair stripes would be this well versed in economics.
Conrrad Nicholls, actually I have a theory that she is actually an “It”, as in it is a robot. Look at the square pupils, no one else has them but “her”.
Bob into the future lore
@@davidmapping4041 HMMMMMM!!!
How bigoted of you to judge one's intelligence by one's weird hair color!
What's absurd is the idea of being hypnotized by chickens. If they could do that we would have gotten rid of KFC long ago!
I find it funny that because this is animated every recommendation is a kids cartoon, mostly Peppa Pig. There's apparently a setting you need to change to let UA-cam know this is an adult channel, otherwise you might get flagged by the algorithms in the new ToS update.
"Portland"
what's up, August 2020 here to tell you that you guys must be precogs.
Or just capable to see obvious signs.
Thank you for no more grid pattern :)
Love that Portland is less inhabited than the moon!
He’s going to talk to Seamus’ hologram
Apparently we have to produce 4-10 times what we need to outpace scarcity.
The pixel art is cool and all but I much prefer the paper style
3:25 Portland being uninhabited. Bruh
I love this please keep making it. Can’t wait until the next episode
What happens if we move to live in virtual reality? Would we still need much of what we have?
Probably not. But will we really want that?
dude, when will you make a video about UBI?
Chuckles in multitasking.
"Like the Moon?" "Oh, we colonized that. I was thinking more like Portland."
Man I feel bad for the birds used in this show, they have to deal with Bob's nonsense.
