I then watched all his stuff about extreme sports and then stopped when he started whining about woke. I stayed subbed though and his new stuff has been great.
I don't know if "the right" as a loose kinda entity is clever or organised enough to have actually done this but it FEELS like they've waged a war of attrition. Saying and doing freak/ghoul shit requires minimal energy. Combatting it and denouncing it and doing lengthy clever articles on why it's wrong, takes effort and time. And as time's gone on, I think people have grown tired of or apathetic towards it. Like "oh they're calling Nigel racist again...he's still here so maybe they're overreacting". Or perhaps more accurately "yeah but he isn't afraid to say it how it is".Just pointing out what these people are, over and over again, no longer has any power. They don't care. All they have to do is keep appealing to peoples most basic, fearful impulses. And you can't even combat that with like, hope. Or real change. Because the opposition exists to prop up all the same systems and institutions that are actually doing the harm. So like. Wtf can you do?

I completely agree with the focus on economics and material conditions stuff I follow NoJusticeMTG who is a leftist streamer in the UK who I highly recommend, she is a trans woman but she never talks about trans issues EVER; she focuses almost entirely on the economics of some news item in UK politics which is what we should be doing. Because obsessing over the social liberal issues gives the right an excuse to fight the culture war. Whereas if you focus on class solidarity and material conditions and uniting people in that way, social issues of rights for groups of people will come by a kind of osmosis through that unity That’s a big way for the left to move forward.
where it gets difficult tho is that certain communities may have worse material conditions, and some people either can't (or don't want to) understand the difference between equity and equality. how do we address that?
@@hinasakukimiGood point and I think the answer is: gotta do both. They're not mutually contradictory. But if we focus exclusively on the social liberal stuff, it makes us easy to attack, and easily divided and conquered.
You say that as if the right needed an excuse to stir up cultural wars? As if these attacks arent a concerted effort to scapegoat marginalised groups in times of crisis so the status quo can be maintained? I get the sentiment and agree we should prioritise bread and buttter issues, and many on the left already do. but why can’t we do both at the same time? Why must marginalised groups be sacrificed until our rights can be achieved through ‘osmosis’ - which isnt a thing. Better economic conditions will make fighting for rights easier but neither socialism or communism is a magic solution for white supremacy or transphobia.
I'm from The Netherlands, and I saw a livestream from one of our national parties, GroenLinks, where they had Bernie Sanders as a guest when he was here in The Netherlands about a year ago. Basically most things he was talking about was already in place as either policy or legislation in our country to some extent, and the things he mentioned were already in the party's program, sometimes the party's program was even more demanding. And GroenLinks isn't even considered the most left-wing party here, that would probably be "Partij voor de Dieren" (Party for the Animals). Talking about "left wing" versus "right wing" is all context. We should drop the "left vs right" rhetoric, and focus on our ideals instead. Because there are also right-wing politicians who have a point (Adam Kinzinger), and left-wing politicians who botch everything (John Fetterman). But at the end of the day, we all want to do better, and it's not the fault of either "the right" or "the left", it's the fault of the policies we have in place...
