We do an extensive retracing of the American victory there and detail the story leading up to the actual battle, fought by the Patriot Whigs versus the Tory militia forces led by the British Commander Major Patrick Ferguson atop the ridge of King's Mountain.
You’re invited to join ranks and watch an interesting documentary and entertaining history lesson that explores and discovers The Battle of King’s Mountain...in the latest episode of Quest Capsule.

Had 8 ancestors that fought on Kings mountain. Great video Thanks for sharing!
Very interesting! You’re very welcome! Thank you for watching!
same im related to fredrick hambright
7th great grandson of Col. James Williams. I didn't know this when I lived in the Carolinas. I hope to visit it soon.
That is very interesting. Thanks for commenting and hope you get to visit soon.
He is also a direct descendant to mine. If you want more info on him and the family, let me know.
@@FinnGriffin I believe I am in that blood line as well. I would LOVE to learn more about them!
@@ceruleansurfer Would be happy to share, there is a lot of info. Send me your email and we can communicate further. All the best.
As a descendant of Col William Campbell I thank you. I read about Kings Mountain but visually it humbles, saddens and gives me pride. Thank you I hope to visit there someday.
You’re very welcome!
Isaac Thomas relative here. Cheers from Texas.
Very interesting. Thanks for watching and commenting from the great state of Texas.
@@QuestCapsule You’re welcome. Thanks for posting. My GF fought with John Sevier and my GF was the one who named the town in TN, Sevierville. It was his land. The word is that everyone around him wanted him to name the town Thomasville, but because he loved JS so much, my GF named the town Sevierville. Home of Dolly Parton, btw. I met a cop where I am who was a Sevier and a descendant of JS. Small world.
@@govtom4 That is amazing. Really glad to meet a relative of this history. It truly is a small world and glad you connected and shared this.
I am a direct descendant of Brigadier General James Williams (5th great grandfather). He was promoted to BG but the letter arrived after his death. He was a true patriot and hero who has not received the appropriate recognition and credit. General George Washington personally noted his bravery in battle. There is a lot written on him and the family.
I was a little disappointed that you spent a lot of time talking about Ferguson but didn’t even mention Williams being killed in the battle. The other parts of your video were well done.
I wish i would have researched him and mentioned more about him in this piece. Mostly, I followed the premise of the storyline placards found along the walking trail here with other battle details throughout.
No doubt, Brigadier General James Williams is a true patriot who’s story deserves to be heard. Much respect.🇺🇸
Living in northwest Georgia basically on a civil war battlefield it’s humbling... every inch of north west Georgia where I live was marched ,fought and died on....
Very interesting and would be a great area to explore. Thanks for sharing!
@@QuestCapsule absolutely, the remnants of earth works and cannon emplacements are everywhere! The mountains and ridges are full of them!!
Terrific! Informative, astute, and with excellent visuals.
I had 5 ancestors that fought in the battle at KM and 2 at Cowpens. With the battle of KM being the turning point in the war I wished it could get more recognition. I was hoping that in the movie the Patriot they would discuss the battle seeing it's when the over the mountain men got this countries turning point victory that freed us and put the stamp on our countries motto Land of the Free and Home of the Brave!!! I'd love to see a movie made about it!!!
Thanks for sharing these details snd thoughts Mike, very interesting. Would be an awesome movie no doubt!
Fergusons death is one of the saddest events of the war. Super smart man, inventor and genius. Had he been on the “other side” he would’ve no doubt been immortalized and been a household name. He has my utmost respect
Lieutenant Rees Bowen, killed in that battle, was my great x6 grandfather (he fathered 11 children so there are a ton of us around the country) He led a Company under Campbell (Washington Co VA Militia) when his brother Captain William Bowen fell sick with a fever. He was one of the first killed and he was laid to rest on the mountain. He settled with another pioneer a place called Maiden Springs in SW Virginia before the war.
Just dropping this here if any other decendants of Bowen happen upon this nice video!
Awesome details. Thanks Billy!
Colonel Andrew Hampton was my 6th Great Grandfather. He personally knew George Washington. He survived the Battle of Kings Mountain and the Revolutionary War when he went on to become Sheriff of Rutherford County, North Carolina for 3 years before his death. His father John Hampton(7th GGF) immigrated from Scotland, arrived on Ellis Island and was a co-founder of the State of New Jersey. John Hampton was sent here to be a farmer. His homestead was the meeting place for the local militia before they set out on their missions. The Hampton clans have always produced big numbers with a rich history in America since the 1600s. A hand-painted portrait and a monument now honor both father and son for their contributions to the founding of our great country.
Thank you for sharing these amazing details.
Im related to Andrew Hampton as well. Mark Hampton Harris is my father.
I am a direct descendant of Zachariah Blankenbeckler that fought in this historic battle. Thank you do much for covering it.
Amazing!! You’re very welcome!
This is a fascinating historical event, cool video 🤙
Campbell married my ancestor Elizabeth Henry, sister to Patrick.
Very interesting! Thanks for viewing!
I really loved your tour as I will probably be able to go myself. I am descended from one of the Isbell boys, there are conflicting reports due to incomplete records who was where when, also a family story behind it. Thanks a bunch 😊
Unable not able, sorry.
My 5th great grandfather (David Law) was at that battle. He was a Continental soldier from Wilkesboro, NC. The old folktale is you’re supposed to put a stone on Ferguson’s grave to send him ‘one stone closer to Hell.’
Also the reason why the Charlotte NBA team is called the Hornets is due to the Revolution. Cornwallis called it a ‘Hornets nest of sedition.’
“For the sword of the Lord and the land of Gideon!” -Patriot reply to Patrick Ferguson
That is so interesting! Thank you for sharing these details.
@@QuestCapsule sad thing is I’m likely related to Patrick Ferguson as well. The Ferguson branch of my family were lowlander Jacobites who participated in the 1745 uprising and supported Bonnie Prince Charles. They were deported from Scotland and went to North America directly to get away from the English.
If you haven’t been I would recommend going to Moore’s Creek, NC and tour that battlefield. It was between Highlander loyalists (who took an oath to the British crown in exchange for land grants) and lowlander patriots (who didn’t take an oath). Flora MacDonald’s (who smuggled Prince Charles out of Scotland) husband organized the loyalist regiment. The battle was a patriot victory but also notable as the last battle ever fought with the highland broadsword.
@@ericbarlow6772 thank you I will. I may also be in touch for some historian input on future documentaries as you would be most helpful and could provide very useful commentary.
Nicely done….narrative, visuals and music. 👍
Many thanks!
Great video. I really need to make the trip up to the battlefield .. not a hard trip as I live outside Camden
Definitely would be a good day trip to explore the area, and very nice walk. Thanks for watching & commenting!
My 8x great grandfather Robert Young Sr .
Many people overlook the basic FACT that in 1779, Spain also declared war on Britain and were quickly winning victory after victory all along the lower Mississippi River and the Gulf area, like Biloxi, Mobile, and Eastern Florida!!!!! Britain had attempted to take Charelston early in the war, but failed. By 1780, they could see that if they didn't focus on the Southern Colonies, Spanish troops would eventually end up there?
Thanks for comment and clarifications George.
Nicely done sir! We are working on a major movie about Kings Mountain called Revolutionary!
Thank you and congrats on the film!🎩
