Frederick Douglass Haynes, III, is a prophetic pastor, passionate leader, social activist, and eloquent orator and educator engaged in preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, fighting against racial injustice; committed to economic justice and empowerment in under-served communities and touching and transforming the lives of the disenfranchised. For 35 years, Dr. Haynes has served as a visionary and innovative senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. Under his servant leadership, the ministry and membership have grown from less than 100 members in 1983 to over 12,000.

I know this comment might be late but as black would be preacher, coming into the fold/joining the ranks here in LA, I appreciate the stance that says, "I am glad I am a black preacher".

Wow, great interview and great insight into the process. Been my pastor for almost 20 years, i remember some of those sermons he referred to, and experienced the structures put in place at the church. All in all, Pastor Haynes has been a blessing to me personally through his preaching. Have grown from an attendee at church into someone whom attempts to work the same with pastor to seek change socially rooted in biblical relevance in my personal life.

The gospel is an offense. Jesus affirmed heterosexual marriage in John 2 and Mark 10. By doing so, He condemns the other, however, He doesn't beat up on the person. Jesus never addressed spousal abuse either but we know it's wrong and aren't passing judgement when we call it out. How seminary-trained preachers miss that is beyond me. "Too much scholar above the clergy collar"! What God said in the Old Testament, Jesus said it in the New Testament, because they are one. All scripture is given by inspiration of God....
Maestroc828 Thank you for saying that... it baffled me when the Rev. Dr. said that about same-sex relationships. Yes, the gospel is for EVERYONE, but we don’t affirm that which the Bible calls wrong.
