- From my VHS Archives! This is one of my favorite TV moments from back in the day. Mariah takes us on the set and behind the scenes of "Glitter" in an episode of "Total Access 24/7," which aired in summer 2001 on what was then known as the Fox Family Channel.
It's so crazy knowing the actual story behind this time in her life now. Like here she said "my mom is writing me pages" and laughed it off but we really know she was getting on her last nerve, literally driving her nuts! And just the way this whole thing is glamorized but really she was physically and mentally exhausted, sleep-deprived, starved, working non-stop and shooting that video in the heat with no breaks 😕 the whole time with a smile on her face, just wild.

People that weren't fans during this time frame will never understand that this is why Mariah is so reserved and what they call "Tired/boring" today. Whenever she acted like herself and didn't shy away from being "real" they took stuff like this and made her seem crazy and chaotic. Yes, she was suffering during this time, but she was always very much her own personality and wanted to share stuff with people but there was always someone lurking around trying to shut it down. She even points it out in her video about Louise watching her, because they know it would be used against her to make her seem unwell.

It’s such a shame this movie and this record don’t hit the box-office. I blame Tommy Mottola for that. He really tried to break her carrer down.

Notice how in every singer to actor movie (The Body Guard, A Star Is Born, etc.) there is always a popular leading actor something Mariah didn’t have on her movie. That probably would have made a huge different in the reception of this movie.
100% agree. No offense to the lead guy but she needed a big name not a newcomer.
Mariah definitely has a mix of 5 years worth of looks here.
Honestly Glitter deserved so much more and it had some of Mariah's best vocals. It's just a bummer that it came out during a horrible time and was sabotaged by Tommy and SONY...
Da Brat "no the movie is not about mariahs life at all" literally based on mariahs life 😂 I know mariah didn't want ppl to know that at the time, but the first time I watched the movie (years before her book) I instantly knew it was based on her real life. She changed certain aspects to make it seem like it's not based on her life but it is. If you pay attention to her song lyrics, you know. A lot of what was in her book wasn't shocking, just more detailed and full story if you are a lamb.

In general I feel like it’s a common reaction of people to be discompassionate toward successful or talented people, but how often do we ask ourselves what it’s like to be that talented and driven? Talent and drive is not 100% a choice, it is a gift bit sometimes it comes with a whole host of issues- like a brain with that much drive can maybe have some mania. Which could be confusing and hard. And then having people need things from you because you’re so capable, constantly having pressure to live up expectations not only for others but yourself. I feel like it could be a burden to be honest. Like maybe sometimes they wish they could just be regular but also they have to be happy all the time because not being happy would just be insulting to all the people around them that make less money, has less fortune.
