It's such shame this place closed it was a casualty of the first lockdown I have so many happy memories of this place. I learned to ski there I had my first job there in 2003 - 2018. I was a Ski Tech and later on an instructor (free training if you worked there) I also had a few snowboard lessons there that were pretty fun (again free). The hut outside the perimeter fence at the side of the intermediate or teaching slope was actually part of the complex it is the old ski hire before it was moved up to the top where you got through the fence. The chair was closed in about 2015 or 2016 after they "fixed it" they created other issues that they couldn't fix and that put paid to the toboggan ride too (what you called the flume) The garages at the side of the chair (was used for storing snow bobs and other things like that except for the rings which were stored upside down on the side of the slope. It was a really cool place but went downhill (pun intended) when they put in the new surface. Go to any other slope like Wycombe Summit (also abandoned) and you'll see what most slopes use. The bit you came in on was the quarter pipe supposed to be used for southern free style club but someone hit it really hard once and landed in the carpark and broke his back so it was never really used. inside the centre you would have found the ski hire from the slope. Down stairs there was a kind of cafe that sold fast food and drinks like Slush Puppies, burgers and the like. It faced the rink which was used for ice discos pantomimes on ice and ice hockey games (the home ice of the Bracknell Bees.). The skate hire right across from the cafe and had an exit right out onto the ice. Upstairs from ski was the hospitality suites some WC’s and a bar which and an annex right by the ski slope and a view of the slope up stairs from there was a gym which I didn’t really use, called Apex Fitness and I think it was rented from Mr Nike. Upstairs from that was a storage room used to store ski buggies and things for the adaptive skiing. You could access it either from inside the centre or up those stairs you found on the ski slope I think it was originally going to be used as a ski bar or viewing gallery but it didn’t pan out. I could see the writing on the wall for quite a long time, but I was still sad to see it go when it did. The problem is it would only have taken few thousand pounds to get it back to its former glory or to bring it back even better than it was before.
You two are like a couple of naughty schoolboys!! 😃 I laughed so much when you were on the ski 🎿 slope as your laugh is incredibly infectious. Why shouldn't two grown men have fun - life is pretty hard right now. Go for it! Gill
This is Bracknell Ski Slope. The big slope was called the Master Slope and the small one next to it was called the Nursery Slope In 1999 I had a bunch of snowboarding lessons on the nursery slope and a couple on the main slope. On Monday Nights there used to be a snowboard jump/trick night
The stuff in the garage were Children in Need props for fund raising and some appeared on South Today when the regional programme was filmed here in the 90’s.
I miss this place so much! Spent pretty much every Saturday of my teen years ice skating in the ice rink. Learnt to ski there on the slope too. Good times! Can’t believe it’s closed for good now 😢
Thank You Guy's . I love your exploring episode . Best part for me was watching . Both of you sliding down the incline . In them little red sled's . Grown men can have fun also . I think this was the best day . For both of you . Got to have a little . Fun in are life's . Have a wonderful day .
Ahhh that’s so weird- I have pictures of me here as a child for me and my sisters birthday parties as we used to come here often... I didn’t even know it had closed until I recognised it halfway through 😂 I always thought it looked fancy when I used to go, but my parents said it’s looked run down for years haha
A little history... Just down the road in Woodley there is another John Nike Ski Slope and also one in Ipswich or near that area. So three (that I know of) in total The building that you couldn't get into is the Ice Rink, home to the Bracknell Bees (The Bees). On the weekends you and your friends could hire some skates for a limited time and have a skate. Great for first dates as teenagers. You had a cafe too, DJ booth, go karting on ice, ice skating lessons. Besides from skiing there was meeting rooms and a restaurant too. In its hey day it was buzzing!
Hi there. Didn't that look like fun. I had no idea about this place. Thank you for the fun and silliness. Cheers to you. Greetings from Toronto Canada Sept 2020. I'm from the UK too.
I recently had a look around the slope in Yeovil which was Yeovil alpine village, building had been demolished but the slope and everything is still there
I live near by and used to go here all the time! The ski slope itself, the drag lift and the ice rink inside closed down in 2020, the toboggan run and chairlift has been closed for as long as I can remember (I’m 19 years old), the steep bit under the toboggan run was a freestyle slope which as far as I’m aware, also closed a while before the main slope! Info from my parents: When the slope opened back in 1985, there was a wooden cabin bar type thing half way up the slope, which is still there but has not been used in many many years, but it used to be a very social lively place! It so so sad to see what has happened to such an important part of the community 😢
Colin, I hope you did get to see the compulsorily purchased houses, some abandoned for over 35 years, around the periphery? These are also quite a spectacle to explore... and they are within public land so can be viewed absolutely legally often alongside the public roadway. If not, then it is worthwhile going back.... However, the site's owners and the Police have radically intensified efforts to prevent trespass, theft or damage and are threatening prosecution to anyone now found on the site.
The covered bit on the slope is where you hired your skis, snowboards, tubogging equipment etc. The green slide on top of the main slope had been closed for years and years as it was a health and safety risk as a bunch of people hurt themselves quite badly
The leisure complex closed in March due to the coronavirus lockdown and has struggled ever since, they finished the last of the redundancies in June. Such a shame!
dmr 85 If you were from the area you would know better, as it was all over the papers. The ice rink in the main building (they couldn’t access) was operational right to the end, no visitors due to COVID, it wasn’t viable to keep the b*stard open, and clearly a money pit so they made everyone redundant. I agree the ski slopes and toboggan run were all shagged as they had stopped using them for a while. I went to the ice rink only in Jan this year it was massive....get your facts straight before you cast judgement!!!!
The John Nike leisure Center made famous by Ali G. Abandoned is a bit misleading as it only closed down recently. The lunge run had stopped years ago, but the Slope was still doing lessons before COVID.
To add it’s not been shut for years. I work next door and it was open up till Covid. The only thing they shut was the luge run. And it was made famous by Ali G in his movie. 👍

Lived up the road from that John Nike ski slope for 29 years. Literally 5mins walk lol. Went ice skating there and for other events. Kinda regret never trying out snowboarding on the slopes. Sad it's closing, but to be honest it hasn't changed since the late 80s/early 90s and needed a lot of refurbishment and updating done. Probably another reason why they decided to shut.
Such a shame that the company did not invest in this place, what makes it worse is that the group that owned and ran it also manufacture the artificial surface that is used on dry ski slopes as well as the mist systems, search up SkiTech Systems, they are part of the Nike Group of Companies. If I had the money I would buy this place and open it back up, with a little love and attention I think it would a profitable business.
In the last comment I put about the dry ski slope now I understand it's like a man-made ski slope I believe so if it was up and running that would actually have snow on it or if it was winner time. Looking at the footage once more, it is evident the site was starved of investment, the slopes and buildings are really showing their age but had been a relatively steady income stream until COVID-19 shut the site. Sadly I fear this is another case of, 'I wanted to bin it off and COVID-19 gave me the opportunity and justification', by the estate of the deceased former owner.
It's hard to believe the place closed earlier that year. Looking at parts of it, you'd think it was abandoned decades ago.
