Really enjoyed this, Sam! 💛I agree that classic florals tend to be better suited for the winter than modern ones. I love wearing the extrait of No. 22 during this time of year.
I recently got a sample of Maai with another purchase, and it blew me away. I felt like I was living another woman’s life - a rich woman in her prime in the sixties. Love love love the animalics! Thanks for another great vid!
I already knew I loved you, but anyone who proudly rocks the fetid animalic goodness of Bal a Versailles has my heart. I just wore it this week, I felt like I needed it in the awful snow we had in NYC. I also adore Poison, the plummy note with the tuberose and jasmine and slightly peppery carnation is heaven. I also find myself reaching for obnoxious white florals this time of year, even though warm bubblegummy tuberose seems out of place with the cold weather, I feel like it wraps me in a warm blanket all day. Right now Pierre Guillaume Tuberose Couture 17 and the loud synthetic goodness of Truth or Dare by Madonna are my jam.
Thank you for this beautiful comment. That's funny, I adore tuberose this time of year, but with a heavy dose of animalics (Tubéreuse Animale) or camphor (Tubereuse Criminelle). If I were a tuberose purist like yourself, I would probably be more straight-forward. I can imagine the effect against the icy air being marvelous. 🌹Xo Sam
@@MyWorldofFragrance Oooo, it has been a while since I have visited uncle Serge's Tubereuse Criminelle, but that is fantastic in a bracing sort of way.
A few days ago the wind was very powerfull and cold and I was wearing Black Perfecto by Guerlain. It seemd the perfect day for Black Perfecto, you are right with the winter florals :)
I'm a huge fan of floral fragrances especially white florals, and I always find a way to pull my florals during the colder months ❤️😍. Awesome video TFS! So happy I've just found your channel. New subbie here ;-)
I don't believe that I have ever worn these fragrances, but the list sounds good. And I can always appreciate a "proper cloud" around me. Thanks for the list, as I like florals, and look forward to wearing them this winter, including Amouage Lyric Man.
I wore Poison in the 80’s & have found myself thinking about it a lot over the course of the past year. It’s rare that a perfume from the past will call out to me to take a walk with her down scent-memory lane. And that speaks volumes as to how special this one is! Thank you for your lovely review, as there are several that I have not even heard of. 💛✨
Thank you, Deborah. Poison will haunt whoever has come along her path - for good or bad :) I need to find a real bottle from the 80's to experience her true glory. 🌹Xo Sam
This! I've been reaching for my greens and florals all winter. Chanel 19, 5 and Beige and Prada infusion d'iris. Poison and Bal are old loves. Thanks, a lovely watch 💚
I love florals in the cooler water , the added crispness in the air just adds a lovely texture to the petals in the scent. Some of my go to scents are 1888 from xerjoff and the decay of the angel by timothy Han 🍀
YESSS thank you for mentioning Poison!! So underrated these days. When I was a teen I had a vintage bottle of it. I used to wear it for dance performances and would douse all my costumes with it. In a moody teenager wardrobe purge I threw it out. I regret it so much now! But I will say…it’s literally been 8+ years and whenever I pull out my old costumes they STILL smell like poison going strong. Will definitely be purchasing a new bottle soon
Aw thank you for this comment! What a fabulous teen you were. Try out the new extrait as well if you get a chance, it may be closer to the original vintage I hear 🌹Xo Sam
Casually superb as usually Sam . I am in awe with every new video 🌹 And i am all in with this one . Vintage formulations especially 70s and 80s are the best this time of the year. Other choices for me are Cabochard a bittersweet leather , Femme by Joop , a powderish civet full floral and a new one ,the Gucci Bloom profumo di fiori to warm me with its yellow sunshine of white flowers . 😺
I love this video! Thank you. I've started craving Chanel no.5 after a steady diet of amber and gourmand fragrances last fall. I can totally resonate with your desire to stay fresh with icy florals under the heavy clothing and potential sweatiness. I look forward to trying the recommendations on this list. Happier new year 😊
Glad that you recommend women's fragrance to men. I'm looking for a aldehydic white floral chypre that I can wear, but I don't like ylang and roses in this type of fragrances.
GEMS you speak of!!! I don’t own the Van Cleef scent or Bal al Versailles so am excited to try. Some people speak of the latter as too funky, but strangely other scents described the same way by many I tend to love!! Also, I like your perfume-song. 😍
My mom wore First alllll through my childhood and teenage years, I adore it. Don't think I would ever wear it myself because it smells like her to me, but, it's still such a special fragrance.
Gorgeous presentation, thank you. Maai, yes, that is something I wish to try. I have Bal á Versailles in cart :) what splendid videos, please continue!
LOL Fitting video I needed to watch today , entering a deep freeze, its -27 Celsius today, didn't think to buy First. Considering blind buying Baghari. My SOTD Gucci guilty oud.
I love this list! I agree with you, wearing sweet, ambery fragrances makes me feel.. I don’t know, tired, heavy, sounds weird but even sticky? Even though I love traditonally wintery fragrances, I often reach out for my chypres and florals in colder weather, to feel more uplifted. Maai is one of my favorites too, it‘s such a complex, edgy but bright composition, I just love it. I definitely need to check out Bal a Versailles, how would you compare it to Salome by Papillon?
Thank you! Yes, I personally can't wear those for an entire day - I save them for evenings. A gourmand in the morning would make me feel extremely heavy. Thank you for sharing. I will say Salome is much more approachable and modern compared to Bal à Versailles. Less dense and you can pick out individual florals in Salome, which you can't really in Bal. The heavy use of civet in Bal is what warms it up more than Salome, which, although contains animalics as well, they are used with a lighter hand. Liz did a great job nonethless. 🌹Xo Sam
Thank you so much for that wonderful video. So complete, nevertheless, what about the strengh, longevity and sillage for bal à Versailles edt please ? Have an Amazing week ✨🏆
I love this video! A great alternative take on winter fragrances. I also really like Frederic Malle’s Iris Poudre in winter. It reminds me of a slightly more modern interpretation of No 22.
As always, fantastic video Sam! I find myself reaching for more floral fragrance (traditional and abstract) this season. Part of me doesn't want to admit this, but I think I'm getting over gourmands. A lot of them are becoming a bit screechy and too sweet to my nose....but that may change...again. The only one I've tried on your list is Maai and it was a love at first sniff and it's now on my wishlist. I have been on a look out for a vintage Jardanel by Jean Desprez since Mr Oz kindly sent me a sample from his collection.... I literally almost died when I smelled it so I can imagine Bal a Versailles having the same effect. Anyway let me stop babbling. I really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much, Amina. Wow, Oz does have the gems it seems. In my case, I was never too fond of gourmands to begin with. I can enjoy them, but not for a full day's wear. I save those for the evening.🌹Xo Sam
Incredible video, a few ideas for me there. Especially the chanel actually 🙂 as you know I adore my floral fragrances. Poison I'm absolutely insanely familiar with, it's quite some fragrance but I absolutely despise it 🙊 was my mums fragrance back in the day and she drowned herself in the stuff... One spray can clear a stadium 🤣 half a bottle everytime... I can still smell it now. But at the same time an iconic one for sure
Haha, I know, for some reason the potency of Poison wasn't enough to hold people back from overspraying. No wonder my mom was scared off and ran to Chanel 😂🌹Xo Sam
I loved this Sam! I also love wearing heavier florals during winter. White is beautiful but Pd Opardu is an HG scent for me. I have travel sizes of both and will eventually go full bottle with Opardu. I have a tiny sample of BAV that I love to sniff. I will probably get the EDT since you said it's still good. Love No 22, I need to pull mine out. I'm curious if you have tried Beloved by Amouge? Another beautiful animalic floral. I also love Salome by Papillon.
Thank you for sharing! Oh I do need to try Opardu. I've had that recommended a few times now. I haven't tried Beloved, no, but I simply must. Salome is a wonderful choice too, I wore that today. 🌹Xo Sam
