[11 July 2022] And it was true, in a way, that Perry never did get weary. At least, he never seemed to, anyway. It seemed as though he never did get weary on camera, or where the press could notice. He kept on recording music - and performing music, which is even more remarkable - practically right up until the year he died. He must have had incredible reserves of energy. In a 2021 memorial article, Pitchfork critic Jayce Clayton recalled how *"His energy level was astonishing. Simone Bertuzzi of the Italian multimedia art duo Invernomuto, who filmed Perry performing for a 2016 conceptual documentary called Negus, told me: “He was almost 80 years old, and after a five hour drive he jumped in front of the camera for another five hours. At the end we asked, ‘Lee are you OK, are you hungry, do you want to stop?’ He said, ‘I’m a robot, I can go on forever. Whatever is fine for you is fine for me..."* an anecdote I always find haunting. Lee Perry: the pure performer, the tireless (manic?) magus, the dub cyborg, the technological (or tricknological!) alchemist of post-Modernist Jamaican pop music. R.I.P.
Just took a look at your main page after noticing that you were called "not yet upset", hoping that it did mean some early. Killa!! Thanks for all the great posts!
I never get weary, never get weary yet And if you don't believe me my friend you can take a bet I was down in the valley for a long long time Believe me my friend I've got a tough time But I never, never never never get weary yet Every night and day they try to stand in my way But I am just a one who don't care what they say I've got a ? So I don't care what they say or do I never never never never never get weary yet For the Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want He will leadeth me in the middle of my enemy, oh yeah I never never never never never get weary yet And if you don't believe me my friend you can take a bet I was down in the valley for a long long time Believe me my friend I've got a tough time But I never, never never get weary yet
