It’s quite a different feeling on the viola, certainly! Regardless of medium of playing, it’s really euphoric to play this at full tempo and being able to appreciate the music.

I barely know where to start. The clarity, tone, intonation, tempo and his feel for the piece is so remarkable... And it does not hurt that my very first hearing of Gavotte en rondeau, as with many of my age (56) cohort was from the PBS science series "COSMOS", performed no less by Grumiaux. I was mesmerized and today more than ever I find Grumiaux my favorite violinist from a list of many.
I will conclude by saying: I experience a unique feeling listening to this very performance of Gavotte en rondeau. As many of you well know, this recording is pressed onto a gold LP record that is aboard the Voyager spacecraft. It represents a small part of the LPs content; that being the sounds of earth. I find so much calming peace knowing even after I, we, everything turns to dust, this may still be transiting the universe until one day our 'message in a bottle' from a pale blue dot arrives on a distant shore, and the inhabitants weep with happiness with what they have discovered.
