NOTES: Before reading on, most of the footage used are other people’s work. I tagged everyone I pulled small clips from and are credited in the description. All footage, sound effects, and music is up there. If I missed anything let me know. For my returning viewers - Sorry I haven’t uploaded in a while, this video was meant to be done a bit ago, but I had a huge setback with ALL my files for the project getting encrypted. I had to restart while also losing every single file I used for editing, which includes footage, audio, effects, etc etc. It was mainly a mental and time consuming setback reediting the parts I had already done. I am also just very slow at editing; I am still learning. For my next project, it is unknown what I will do. I might experiment and try diving into a specific game. I’ve thought of exploring the old Call of Duty games (COD 1-3) or maybe something more niche with a game, like the horror in Gears of War. Not sure yet. Fun Facts - For the “Our Story” segment, I wanted to use the Sound of Silence (used in the GOW4 trailer “Tomorrow”) but copyright came into play no matter the variations I used :( A hardcore Gears fan may notice I used Clayton Carmine’s dialogue at 5:25 while playing as Benjamin Carmine, I just liked the sound effect and had only Ben to play as. Yes, the music choice for “Here Comes The Horde” is the soundtrack from The Walking Dead. I love the series and thought that specific piece was amazing and worked fine with that segment. Also the music in my conclusion is indeed the Mad World version specifically familiar with the character Dominic Santiago.
Im sorry for what im about to say, being also a previous hardcore fan, i dont think at 8:35 its true. Yes many things changed but for better because the formula isnt working anymore, in the early 2000-2010 it work pretty well, i even liked the 4th and greatly the 5th but i have to admit after i go through it all i become quickly bored.
@N7 yeah 2 & 3 was more action oriented, but I think it also was because that's when the game kicked off and became a mega hit, so by making it less horror and more action gets a bigger potential customer base.
@N7 Gears 2 wasn't necessarily as scary as 1 but 2 had just as much if not more creepy/F'd up stuff...Eg's. .The locust concentration/torture camps where Tai kaliso - arguably one of the most level headed badasses in the series - commits suicide with a shotgun like 10 seconds after being saved by Marcus and the gang due to the horrendous torture he went through and horrors he witnessed. .There's cages of people like doms wife literally ghoulified people broken and starving to death while you fight your way through the locust city where you once again get hit with the lambent problem..something worse than the locusts lmao. .Could add the research facility and the experimentations to the list aswell or even seeing carmine almost ripped in two by Nemacytes within the rift worm. There's loads, defo think the creepy gore factor is still there in 2 but 1 defo had a few good holy sh** scary moments (berserker run in and the krill night city)
Gears of War also gives personality to the weapons. From Lancer's iconic chainsaw to Retro Lancer's satisfying beyonet charge to Torque bow's explosive arrows to Hammer of Dawn's all destroying laser. This is what I like about video game weapons. They aren't just tools used for killing, they are their own character.
Absolutely right. Personality is filled everywhere in this franchise. Weapons, characters, maps, sounds, etc etc. If Gears of War didn't have competitors like Halo during it's prime, I bet Gears would be appreciated more in the modern day. It's baffles me that the Lancer chainsaw was being debated on even being in the game
Gears of War 2 was my first game into the series and I loved that game. I had so many fond memories with this masterpiece. I remember when my dad bought it I was just in first grade lol. He's like don't play it because ofc I was young. I snuck and played it and I loved it from that day on. Then when he found out I didn't get introuble we just played co op campaign
I replayed through the entire game just for this video, I was entirely hooked on the experience despite me knowing what happens. It was refreshing playing it again :)
I'll always hold the original GoW trilogy dear to my heart. Baird was my spirit animal, Cole was that guy everybody needed in their life and the relationship between Marcus and Dom was just the best
If you feel disenchanted from the current games and where the franchise is headed, I recommend everyone read the first Gears book: Aspho Fields. It adds so much depth and richness to the world. Great video 👍
I mean I like how didn't you gained acknowledged that the Cog is extremely f***** up by having breeding camps that inevitably resulted in nothing more than sex slavery
Seems like yesterday , i was rocking mp with my buds thinking about how life would be 10 15 years from now and that it was going to be a long time before i knew...but that time fucking flew by.
@@jamesmaloney8191man WHAT?! I send my boy clips every few months of some old ‘tages we used to watch… instant goosebumps. greatest era of gaming ever, and the best multiplayer shooting game experience I’ve ever had (and Halo3, COD4/MW2)
Dude I will never forget the night my dad brought gears home to play. Later on he told me he just asked some game stop kid that he wanted a game he could play with his son. Me. And the kid grabbed gears. And my dad played it on hard and he’d tell me when I would get frustrated that it will make you better at the game if you learn on hard. So I pushed through and I just remember how immersed we both were in the story and how dark and depressing the game story was but at the same time beautiful. We found most of the cog tags the first play through on hard. Then we unlocked insane and we played it again. Found all of the tags and we played the shit outta that game together. Then fast forward I get a call from my dad while I’m at school and I told my teacher like hey um my dad is calling me and he like never calls me and the teacher told me to go out side and my dad just goes hey. Can you go on UA-cam right now and I’m like ya I can I’m out side. And he said look up gears of war two and call me back and I literally remember just being so excited I had to sit down so I look it up call him back and ya. He took me to the mid night releasing of gears two and he got us the game book and a poster that I still have on my wall to this day. Idk why I felt like sharing this but ya man. I miss gears a lot.
When I was a kid I only ever played Nintendo games, or at least things that were on the Gamecube. Gears of War was the first game outside of that sphere and when my uncle brought it over, playing it with him and my dad was the thing that truly got me into gaming. Was the reason I wanted an Xbox 360 and ended up getting one for Christmas. It was the series that actually *made* me a gamer.
Gears of War is the first series (movie, game, comic, or book) that made me cry with doms death. These games today fill me with the most nostalgia. The series really helped me in my teenage years gave me some great memories and even better friends
This was... beautiful - well done. I really appreciate how you used cutscenes from the original gears, rather than the ultimate edition. Excellent choice
Gears 1 is my all time favorite game. There are many reasons but one includes the multiplayer actually feeling like it continues the conflict from the campaign. I adore narrative context for MP.
nothing will ever top this game series for me, absolutely amazing GOW1's first Berserker fight, 2's mission where you pilot a Brumak, 3's...honestly, everything about 3, and even Judgement's Karn boss fight, this series is just full of amazing, absolutely fantastic moments
The reason why I even wanted an Xbox 360 was because of the first Gears. It's still one of my favourite games to this day. The new Gears games just seem to be soulless mockeries of what was once an epic (pun intended) franchise. A fantastic video, thank you!
The story of the gears 5 should have had Abaddon the Despoiler and the Black Legion of Chaos invading Sera and killing everyone on the planet, human or Locust before declaring exterminatus on Sera
Yeah I'm not gonna lie gears 5 with it's MTV teen drama and 50+ LGBTQ flags being spammed everywhere they could possibly be and the gore being removed it low-key felt like one of the mods wanted to feed us more liberal stuff
Gears of War was the reason I went from PS2 to Xbox 360. From the first time seeing my younger brother playing with his friends on Canals, I was hooked. Met some great friends on Gears 1. Even more on GoW2. We used to play Ranked Execution like it was our job. Adjusting through all the title updates, uploading clips to YT via the old elgato.. such fun times. I think the best Gears multiplayer experiences I ever had were GoW3 beta and before. It was a simpler game that required more skill to get kills. They have ruined the Gears of War we once knew by adding all the colorful crap, micro transactions, removing the core game modes (exe/warzone) and a bunch of other changes that nobody asked for. All in the name of making more profit. Such a sad state. I'm optimistic for a GoW2 remaster. It's what we all need.
GOW 4 was exceptional. I was there for the 1st 3 games, day one, but each one I got a little older, life got a little harder. But 4 pulled me BACK in fully. A son who was playing with his father. My son who was little for the 1st game, but was a young man and ready to show me what I had been missing out. I played so many nights, found new friends even brought my daughters into the fun. And it truly saved video games for me. I lost hope, but it was amazing and now I long for those nights again.
I can definitely appreciate that, I like Gears of War 4 as well it just couldn't hit as hard for me. Something was missing that I held near and dear in the originals. Gears of War 6 may be able to do something when it does eventually come out, hopefully. It's amazing how you were able to bond over that game, that is always awesome to hear. Those games can be life changing for exact moments like that.
Come back, brother. We need ya! Your videos hit harder than almost anyone else I listen to. You really hit the nail on the head describing what has happened to gaming and our beloved franchises.
I currently got a video ready to go, but I'm finishing my next video first so I have a video in my pocket to upload as I wish. Just gives me a little breathing room
I used to think 4 was flawed but enjoyable, upon replay that campaign is absolutely dreadful. The dialogue feels like they had an MCU ghostwriter, zero stakes, a cheap fakeout death with Marcus, Marcus getting flanderized into a predictable grumpy old man, and Delta Squad sidelined for 3 charisma vacuums. Plus... robots everywhere. Not as franchise-destroying of a title as Halo 4, but a clear sign the good games were finished now.
@@sas6384 to be fair the dialogue was ridiculously cheesy in Gears of War 3 too to the point where it could be a bit cringe but I guess that gets away with because it had a very strong story. Also as much as I don’t like fighting robots much I have to say that the Deebee weapons were awesome. The Overkill Shotgun is one of my favourite weapons to use in gaming history.
@@lukefitton7329 Gears 3 definitely dipped more into cheesy 80's action movie, but it didn't undermine every dramatic moment with a punchline like Gears 4 insisted on, thankfully. Imagine if Dom died with a joke about tomatoes. Imagine if Marcus killed Myrahh, then started break dancing as the game ended with a big house party and musical number. This is the tone Gears 4 went for: Everything is a meme.💀 Oh, and yes the overkill is a monster.
Best part: Gears 5 attempted to juggle 4's relentless comedy with some Life is Strange-style story about an emo teen girl. So you can imagine my excitment for Gears 6 lol.
Gears of War 1-3 will alway be my favorite games. From meeting the Berserker in the first game to finally ending the locust war in the third game will always be forever ingrained into my memories especially playing these games with my brothers and my dad.
For multiplayer, I always played Carmine since I wanted to be a self-insert/faceless Gear. That's me though. I see the single player of 1-3 as a masterpiece, especially the mateship between Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird and Dom's death was the one that hit the hardest in all of gaming for me. I'm currently replaying the Gears trilogy with my brother on splitscreen (up to Gears 3 at the moment) and it's been bloody fantastic replaying the campaigns again.
Back in '06 I still remember watching the first trailer they released for Gears 1, instantly knowing I was witnessing the beginning of masterpiece franchise.
Took word for word of what I thought exactly about these games, world at war & gears have that dark atmosphere that even my young 8 year old self at the time grew a respect for. These games just throw it in your face and show you how it is, games don’t have that gravity and punch anymore. The story, the gameplay, The soundtracks, even loading the game up - will just keep you in a dark sense of seriousness in the games personality. Going back and playing these really appreciate it just as the first times you started playing them back then, really hope game developers pull this off with a game series or even a reboot of gears. That would be awesome…
I was late to the party and got into gears when 3 came out when I was in 8th grade, and boy was I blown away. I went and got the first two games and had a lot of good memories. There's just something nostalgic about Gears for me...now everything from the games, lore and friendships I made playing now are just fond memories. An excellent video and one that just might make me whip out my old copies. This franchise got done dirty, man...
Gears of War was the franchise that introduced me to E-Sports and I never looked back. Gears 3 Beta/Day one was an absolute masterpiece and I made friendships that have lasted me a lifetime playing through all of the games. Gears of War was just such a unique series in a league of it's own.
The friends I have online I met on Gears 3. It’s been almost 13 years and we still talk about the good old gears. I still play gears but it doesn’t have the same hmmph anymore sadly
This video is absolutely incredible man, it means so much to me Gears of War 3 specifically is my favorite game of all time Also side note, your editing is amazing, it captures so many of the themes you were talking about within the Gears of War universe (The music choices are amazing)
I grew up with Marcus and Dom. Still can believe how goos the story was. Dom sacrifice in the third game…. Still not over it. Really great video. Exactly how I feel about this amazing series
I love this video, altho one thing I feel you left out was the music, even just sitting on the main menu of gears 1 was awesome, the music and the backgrounds, was very much lost when the coalition tookover.
Appreciate the love. I would easily talk about it, but I didn’t wanna deviant too far away from the main points. I even used some gears 5 music in this vid, the new music isn’t bad by any means! But I do agree I liked the older music much better.
Gears of War was sold to me based on the Lancer at first. A FREAKING chainsaw bayonet and the core was great. I found later the story was good and I liked the action as well.
Everytime i see footage from the campaign of any of the first 3 it makes me wanna play it right away the storytelling was so amazing the dialogue, and atmosphere, the music, and the overall feeling you get from gears of war, the marcus fenix storyline will always be one of my favorites in gaming, and dont get me started on the multiplayer
I miss Gears so much.. the first game I ever got 100% of the achievements on 360 (FYI the “Seriously..” gamer pic you got from the achievement doesn’t show up anymore on newer consoles, which makes me sad) I was hooked from the moment I saw it and never looked back. I don’t think I’ll ever have that kind of experience again with any one game. I even go back and watch some of my old montages sometimes.. Not to mention the absolutely incredible story telling in the original trilogy. So many moments that just left me in awe and staring at my screen after they happened… I’m so glad I got to experience those times. I’m hoping somehow there will be a MCC style release for Gears as a love letter to the fans, but I won’t hold my breath. Thank you for this video, it was truly incredible.
I still hold fond memories of these games to this day. The Mad World trailer stayed with me for so long, beating the 2nd game in one night with a childhood friend. Dom. Gears of War is still one of the classics in my eyes.
This game just like you was my whole childhood.. I've days and days playing the multiplayer but also the campaigns.. truly a generational trilogy that got mudded by it's recent opuses.. it will never be the same and I want to go back to the days where gears 1 was filled with longshot lobbies on gridlock, popping heads and having fun.. whilst I'm still doing this on GoW 5.. it's so different I truly wonder what a marcus collection would do to this beloved series Amazing video
I loved the first three so much they were easily my favorite games and still are to this day.. just to experience them for the first time again.. simply masterpieces.
Honestly a big problem with the new games is they had nowhere to go forward with the story 3 was such a great ending to the series we’d really have to just get a prequel game for there to be an interesting story anymore. I liked judgement too but maybe about a squad we don’t know much about or have never seen before
You are 100% correct about the emotional maturity; now that I'm older I play Gears of War's og trilogy and feel so much more connected with it. In the past I loved the franchise because of the fun, violent and great multiplayer; today I love the franchise because of all that and the amazing story it has, many layers of good story and characters that only by playing it and experiencing it yourself can be feel.
I grew up playing thousands of hours of GoW, Halo, Cod, Battlefield on my Xbox360. Each a distinct and legendary experience. Haven’t enjoyed a shooter in 8 years outside of Doom and Doom eternal (Titanfall 2 was cool but died prematurely) but those were short single player experiences. Gaming industry might as well shut down completely, wouldn’t make a difference to me and I no longer even believe gaming can come back
Man.. just recently I've been thinking about Gears and wanting to replay them.. and though I've been wanting a remaster of them, I'm gonna Gear up and run through them again! Great video!
Im more upset at how GOW is seen in the general public these days. Its not only seemingly forgotten by everyone but also is just seen as "that one gray dude bro game from the 360 days"
I miss this era of gaming so much! Looking back this was basically the golden age of triple a games which I would say went from 2007 to 2012 back when companies actually put in effort and didn’t over monetize everything. Last point I think this is one the main reasons battle royale is still popular as competition for content rich triple a games is simply not what it used to be because they would not be nearly as popular if they came out during the heyday of gears, halo, cod, etc.
I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this in all these comments, but if you enjoyed the story if Gears then I really recommend reading/listening to the books. They really add so much to the lore, especially the 3rd one. It takes place between 2 and 3 and really tells/shows you how everything went to hell. Loved the video.
I remember back In 2008 me and my friends ditch school to go get gears 2 in another town and spent the whole day playing it and being amazed how good it was. Dam those were the days. 😢
When i first saw this game it was my dad playing it. When i was like 9 i played the campain with my dad and i loved the gun play and enjoyed playing something like nothing else. Right now i am in high school and replaying the first 3 gears games and understanding the amazing story with emotional moments like no other. This was a family game for me cause me, my sister, and my dad playing horde it was so fun. I love the gameplay to this day i play gears almost everyday. I love the carmine family not only are the common soldier but i see my self in them. Even though i like gears 5 i do miss the dark and grim world in the first 3 i mean when i played gears 4 campain i only really cared about JD and the old characters. I dont play COD or halo I play Gears of War
Growing up I didn't play these games cause they were prior to my teen years and I was poor but I'd watch vids on UA-cam and I loved the personality and how over the top it was and here I am years later playing gears 1 and 3 (I've played a little elsewhere but haven't found a copy of 2 yet... Only a case that had a broken PS2 game in it) and I still appreciate the game for the personality it has but with an appreciation for how much more realistic it is to the horrors of war than actual milsims tend to be especially in losing scenarios
When I was a teen I could only watch those amazing gow trailers but not be able to play the games except the first one waaaay back, due to lack of an a xbox. I recently got my hands on a litle weary but still working 360 and bought all 3 gow games and judgment too. I'm near the end of the 2nd game and love it. It feels so satisfying to fill this hole, these games are great.
As a kid when i played gears 1-3 I was young. Really young yet i remember so much about the originals. I remembered the beserkers the worm each carmine's death. I remembered dom's death tai's death etc. I don't know why i remembered them yet couldn't remember like anything from halo but i remembered all of that and i was like 6 maybe even younger. This franchise was the only one that stuck with me as a kid. I think it was dom and Marcus' relationship. I remember thinking they were legit brothers at the time and saw my own brother in dom to the point where we replayed the trilogy and plan to play the rest in a few months. I think he likes the games way less than I do as i'm the only one finding videos talking about the series because there is just something about it that really sticks with me. The gritty tone while never having a clear good and evil. I never really played the multiplayers growing up so I don't even have nostalgia for that. All of my nostalga and memories are from the story. I remember the fear I had of the krill and the berserker. I remember being really sad at Gears 2 carmine's death. This franchise was really something special. And playing through it with my older brother and seeing dom die really felt personal. I love this franchise, I love the lore, the characters, the weapons, the gore, the enemies. And because of that it hurt even more seeing the franchise devolve into this fake self.
If you don't know about them there are a few books that take place before Gears Of War 1 and 3 that take place in between 2-3 that I highly recommended reading. They really build upon the story and make it that much better than its already great story and universe.
gears of war was the only reason why I bought an xbox360 over the ps3. I remember my best friend showing me the trailer and gameplay trailers (back when gameplay trailers had actual gameplay lol) and being immersed by the world they had created. the mad world trailer especially had me gripped and was one of the very few adverts I liked watching on tv, I'd even get excited during commercial breaks in hopes that I could see it, even the ad for gear 2 rendezvous with death was a chefs fucking kiss 👌 (adverts were a lot better back then compared to now) when I finally got the games. it truly was a masterpiece both 1 and 2 from story and online pvp to the creative weapons (torque bow😍) even the concept of active reload😝.... to bad the new versions bastardised the franchise
I remember when in about first grade, my dad was so excited for gears to come out. We went to GameStop on the launch night and I remember seeing the cover of the game. Instantly fell in love with the franchise and have played every entry since. Since 3 stories have been lackluster and I was always a bit chapped that they never brought back Beast mode
Gears 3 felt like a nice ending to a solid as hell series. Gears 4 came around and had the fan favorite characters play 2nd fiddle to kait and her family drama. Then gears 5 came out and made jd out to be a villan( i never even finished it because i got locked out of a mission and had to restart when it first came out) but kait kinda killed it for me. I didnt like her in 4, so having her be the main character in 5 just wasnt my cup of tea.
I played the trilogy of the Gears of War with my dad when I was 7 years old when I finished the third I was excited for the 4th game but you know what happened the 4th game wasn't what I expected 8 years has passed and I still play the trilogy over and over again but now alone my father is busy on work and my brothers got what I call (the new era corruption), I don't know but I fell that when we come up to heaven we will get the gears of war that we needed years ago and we need it even nowadays
Gears of War was why i switched to an xbox, 1-3 were just beautiful masterpieces, i even enjoyed Judgement - but the new ownership just poisoned anything i once loved with their greed and lootboxes and skins that looked they came out a childrens cartoon R.I.P GOW
As someone who grew up playing gears. I agree with everything you said! I just really hope this franchise gets saved and takes a turn to change it back to what it used to be. It’s not impossible just needs the right people who know what they are doing.
I remember the first time i played gears 3. At this point ive already played 1 and 2. Gears 3 was my favorite by far. It was the first gane to make me cry. Doms death hurt bad and drove me to finish the game.
I only started playing Gears of War this very year. Started with 2 and 3, and I'm currently beating the PC port of the first game. Even with the very late start, I loved the games. 2 felt like it was ending pretty much the entire latter half but it kept on giving, and it was awesome. 3 felt like seeing an old friend again and the intro did that wonderully, even if I played both games back to back! :p Instant favorites, personally, and I have to agree with people saying it's a must-play 7th gen trilogy.
Gears 2 is the first game i played when i got my first Xbox, i met all my early xbox friends through Gears 2 and continued to play with them for years. Now there’s only one friend from those days that i still communicate with every now and then but we haven’t played a match of Gears since Gears 4 had just launched.
I have to say I love you for not spoiling this for people who don't know the game and genuinely are curious, the storyline is amazing from 1-3 and it can be a treat in judgement, tears of joy mentally. Just a sad thing coalition fucked it up.
i remember playing the first 2 games with my uncle me being player 2.Once 3 launched i cried i still do whenever i see that scene. Maybe it's nostalgia and fond memories with my uncle but that scene is just so powerful to me.
Gears of war 1,2,3 was similar to halo reach. A setting based game with a overwhelming feeling of dread and failure. Carried by outstanding characters that you love and can feel for.
Honestly, there's a LOT I can say right now, so I'm just gonna start from the beginning. I started this game as a 11-12 year old kid just playing 2 on my step-brother's 360, I never got to start at 1 and I got to play 3 shortly after release, I ADORED the games because they just had a special something. I'd go to friends houses and (if I brought my own 360 or used theirs), we'd regularly play through the campaigns together and just have fun. I just turned 23 a few weeks ago, over a decade of enjoying these games and I JUST finished replaying through 2 yesterday with my best friend (now turned housemate), soon to start 3 and press on our adventure through the games in canonical order. Yeah, we poke fun at the games and say "why's this like this?, who not just do that? This shouldn't work" but we're both absolutely loving just playing Gears again like when we were teens. The Gears of War series just has that certain charm that I struggle to see much these days.
Dom wasn’t just another playable character. He was THE player 2. Not just another player 2, he was the prime example that stood out amongst the rest. The first player 2 character that really got you invested, not just a “less cool” player 1. No every time we played a new gears my younger brother would adamantly insist on playing as Player 2 because he WAS Dom. So when Dom died it wasn’t just his death, it was the death of THE player 2.
Gears of War 1 was so incredible. That advertisement with the song got my interest peaked with how dark the game felt and that was it from there. It was such a fresh take on a shooter. The graphics blew my mind and I played multiplayer endlessly… Man, those were the days.
I just want to say that Gears of war, Especially GOW 2, playing Campaign co-op, PVP Guardian, and Horde, is the MOST FUN I've had in gaming. Probably since the day of Contra on the NES playing with friends. Halo 3 4 player split screen was close, but I've had fun playing Gears since 2007. Gears Of War 3 4 player co-op was soooo much fun. I still play but it's not like it was back in the day. Everyone's gotten older and we don't have time to play for hours like we use to, but we still have a good time.
I absolutely appreciated this video. I started Gears from the original, made so many friends, started relationships, and even my first tattoo was for the game. It's a shame to see the franchise going down the same path as most shooters (at least for the multiplayer side of things). I'm being hopeful for 6 but still holding all reservations until I play it. Here's hoping it gets the final hurrah it deserves.
I've always loved gears but I always liked the carmine's the most and clayton became my favorite character of all time. as the oldest brother of 4 I really related to him on a deep level. Form his love for his brothers and and his overall badass attitude greatest character of all time. And amazing video bro you really showed all the aspects that make gears of war an incredible and wild ride of a game
This franchise is one of the few that was extremely memorable and engrained in my mind since childhood. The GOW franchise introduced me to the emotional pain a game can inflict on a player. Gears of War 2 in particular had the 1st two times I felt emotional pain, though at the time I wasn't sure what I was feeling because I was so young. Marcus and the team finding B. Carmine and hearing his last words, and Dom finding his wife were the two moments where I genuinely didn't know how to react. Then in GOW 3 when Dom dies to save the team... man... Sucks what they did for GOW4, but I don't judge it too harshly because I didn't even try to play it. The trilogy had a great ending and I didn't wanna botch it.
This era of gaming just hit different. Millions of people on the Halo 3, Gears, and Modern Warfare 2 servers. I'm thankful that I got to experience it from start to finish
Outside of Bad Company 1 & 2 and Battlefield 3, all of my best stories come from Gears. 1 - 3 were remarkable. Quick story: Playing Phantasy Star Universe. Dude says he'd obliterate me in Gears 1. Challenge him to a 1v1. He shows up with a friend. I 2v1 them anyway. To his credit, he's pretty good and we consistently beat the hell out of each other. Finally end up on Fuel Depot. Super close match. Final round. I get downed inside the warehouse. Both guys are teabagging me from either end. Stand up, get downed again. This is it. Have to have perfect timing. I stand up, instantly fire my gnasher from the hip and roll right at the same time. Decapitate guy A, wall-slide past guy B, down him, teabag him, down him again, chainsaw him. Victory. So satisfying.
I'm so so happy my mother got me gears 2 and 3 on my birthday, the multiplayer, hoard mode, beast mode, and most of all the story. I hate what gears or war is now, how do you take a great game with great characters, great story, great moments, and most of all great gameplay, and not understand what makes it a great franchise in the first place. gears of war will always have a place in my heart, every year I replay 2 and 3 campaign just cuz its so good. rest in peace gears of war, what a mad world we live in.

I’ve thought of exploring the old Call of Duty games (COD 1-3) or maybe something more niche with a game, like the horror in Gears of War. Not sure yet.
Fun Facts -
For the “Our Story” segment, I wanted to use the Sound of Silence (used in the GOW4 trailer “Tomorrow”) but copyright came into play no matter the variations I used :(
A hardcore Gears fan may notice I used Clayton Carmine’s dialogue at 5:25 while playing as Benjamin Carmine, I just liked the sound effect and had only Ben to play as.
I'm curious where you got the "an appointment with death" at the beginning

1-3 are absolute masterpieces. Great stories, multiplayer and co-op horde. Something for everyone.
@MrDjBigZ yep 4 was alright, nothing special, and 5 was just meh... I miss the spooky horror Gears of War had.
@N7 yeah 2 & 3 was more action oriented, but I think it also was because that's when the game kicked off and became a mega hit, so by making it less horror and more action gets a bigger potential customer base.
@FannyBashing247 2 very much kept it.
@@NoMansLand98 exactly, they made it more generic to cultivate mass appeal. Mass Effect had the same issue
They aren't just tools used for killing, they are their own character.
every weapon in the game is so iconic, so many cool ideas and designs, back when devs tried to make something special instead of something profitable
The hammer of dawn was revolutionary in its impact on the world
Turning someone into mist with a Gnasher was my favourite gaming moment of all time
I knew it was over when they removed the blade melee from torque bow in 4
I still feel like Doms death is still the most depressing death I've experienced in a video game
Arthur’s death from RD2 had me balling my eyes out 😢
It really was. It's the only time I've ever cried in a video game or movie. The film Seven Pounds got me pretty close though.
He didn't deserve it
Same brother I was like 10 when he died and I just broke down still remember it
How about Lee from the Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 1?
Gears of War 2 was my first game into the series and I loved that game. I had so many fond memories with this masterpiece. I remember when my dad bought it I was just in first grade lol. He's like don't play it because ofc I was young. I snuck and played it and I loved it from that day on. Then when he found out I didn't get introuble we just played co op campaign

Playing gears 1 multiplayer was a glorious time for gaming
2006-2010 😕
Your dad is awesome
When I was a kid I only ever played Nintendo games, or at least things that were on the Gamecube. Gears of War was the first game outside of that sphere and when my uncle brought it over, playing it with him and my dad was the thing that truly got me into gaming. Was the reason I wanted an Xbox 360 and ended up getting one for Christmas.
It was the series that actually *made* me a gamer.
Also so much great lore. The light mass bomb you set off in 1 is what makes the worm wake up in 2
Gears of War is the first series (movie, game, comic, or book) that made me cry with doms death.
These games today fill me with the most nostalgia. The series really helped me in my teenage years gave me some great memories and even better friends
This was... beautiful - well done.
I really appreciate how you used cutscenes from the original gears, rather than the ultimate edition. Excellent choice
Ngl ultimate edition was fire idk why ppl hate it so much when I want to play gears 1 I hop on ultimate edition
From one Gears of War brother to another 🤜🏿🤛🏿❤
These campaigns were very underrated. These games still make my top 10 to this day.
I played the trilogy this past spring on Game Pass and I love them! I’m replaying the entire trilogy the second time right now.
Gears 1 is my all time favorite game. There are many reasons but one includes the multiplayer actually feeling like it continues the conflict from the campaign. I adore narrative context for MP.
@N7 it really was a bummer that 2 and 3 were far more cheesey
nothing will ever top this game series for me, absolutely amazing
GOW1's first Berserker fight, 2's mission where you pilot a Brumak, 3's...honestly, everything about 3, and even Judgement's Karn boss fight, this series is just full of amazing, absolutely fantastic moments
The reason why I even wanted an Xbox 360 was because of the first Gears. It's still one of my favourite games to this day. The new Gears games just seem to be soulless mockeries of what was once an epic (pun intended) franchise.
A fantastic video, thank you!
As long as TC has control of Gears, it will NEVER get what it deserves
I agree.
The story of the gears 5 should have had Abaddon the Despoiler and the Black Legion of Chaos invading Sera and killing everyone on the planet, human or Locust before declaring exterminatus on Sera
Halo suffered the same fate with 343. Poor management and forgetting what made the games great to begin with.
Yeah. Gears needs to be given to the people who made mortal combat
Same here. I find the fourth the best in the series. I love all of them though, even Judgment. My favourite Xbox franchise by far.
Gears 4 was garbage.
Gears 4 was the best one.

Appreciate the love brother ♥
Gears of war 1-3 were masterpieces. Judgement was great as well. 4 was a shaky new start. 5 was unforgivable with what it did.
This is the tone Gears 4 went for: Everything is a meme.💀
Oh, and yes the overkill is a monster.
Best part: Gears 5 attempted to juggle 4's relentless comedy with some Life is Strange-style story about an emo teen girl.
So you can imagine my excitment for Gears 6 lol.
@@sas6384 the fact there's been no news of gears 6 after so many years says a lot.
I've found that i like more serious characters. Even when they're making jokes they still understand the gravity of the situation.
Man, you have me reminiscing now.. It’s definitely a major difference in the past few series. That original darkness is sadly gone.. 🥲
It's what stood out for me, I loved that darkness compared to its competitors.
Horde was surprising well done, its not often you get a third game mode that people constantly play
I miss the days of the beta haha. Real ones worked hard to get that golden retro lancer exclusive to the beta grind.
The friends I have online I met on Gears 3. It’s been almost 13 years and we still talk about the good old gears. I still play gears but it doesn’t have the same hmmph anymore sadly
This video is absolutely incredible man, it means so much to me
Gears of War 3 specifically is my favorite game of all time
Also side note, your editing is amazing, it captures so many of the themes you were talking about within the Gears of War universe (The music choices are amazing)
So many moments that just left me in awe and staring at my screen after they happened…
I’m so glad I got to experience those times. I’m hoping somehow there will be a MCC style release for Gears as a love letter to the fans, but I won’t hold my breath.
Thank you for this video, it was truly incredible.

Beautifully passionate and well put together video. Thank you.
This game just like you was my whole childhood.. I've days and days playing the multiplayer but also the campaigns.. truly a generational trilogy that got mudded by it's recent opuses.. it will never be the same and I want to go back to the days where gears 1 was filled with longshot lobbies on gridlock, popping heads and having fun.. whilst I'm still doing this on GoW 5.. it's so different I truly wonder what a marcus collection would do to this beloved series
Amazing video
I loved the first three so much they were easily my favorite games and still are to this day.. just to experience them for the first time again.. simply masterpieces.
The save or kill Clayton vote for Gears 3 was a really neat fan influence for the game. This was a great era for games and online play.
Amazing video. Perfectly relates to how I think and feel about Gears of war. Thanks for making this video, its nice to know others feel the same way.
Like you, very grateful to have played all 3 games during the height of their popularity. What a wild ride.
S tier: 3
A tier: 1 and 2
B tier: Tactics and 4
C tier: Judgement and 5
D tier: pop wars
I will not elaborate further
Honestly a big problem with the new games is they had nowhere to go forward with the story 3 was such a great ending to the series we’d really have to just get a prequel game for there to be an interesting story anymore. I liked judgement too but maybe about a squad we don’t know much about or have never seen before
You got an instant sub, this is a conversation ive been waiting for.. thank you!
Nice video. I've been saying for years that Gears 1 - 3 deserve a trilogy collection remaster. I sort of can't believe that doesn't exist.
All good things come to an end. Sometimes they are pet cemetery-ed alive to become bad things.
The war for Sera was won.
I just happened to play through the first 3 games again. Had a great time. Great video editing style btw, watching your video made my night :)
These edits were good im ngl. Good video
Brothers to the end. Gears means so much to me. Halo and Gears I'll never forget
I was top 100 Gears of War 2 player in submission and KOTH and I miss those days destroying everyone with my boys
I have gears of war 1, and the special collectors editions of 2 and 3 archived away safely. 3 was the end of gears for me.
Man, I remember that scene where Dom finally finds his wife, it hit my feels as hard as playing the intro in the last of us 1.
I didnt like her in 4, so having her be the main character in 5 just wasnt my cup of tea.
shes a Mary sue annoying character
Kait ruined 4 for me. Sure it had nothing on the OG trilogy, but it had its moments, especially Horde.
I blame Laura Bailey 😂😂😂

Gears of War was why i switched to an xbox, 1-3 were just beautiful masterpieces, i even enjoyed Judgement - but the new ownership just poisoned anything i once loved with their greed and lootboxes and skins that looked they came out a childrens cartoon

As someone who grew up playing gears. I agree with everything you said! I just really hope this franchise gets saved and takes a turn to change it back to what it used to be. It’s not impossible just needs the right people who know what they are doing.
Thanks for this video ❤️
I love the series, thanks for the comment :)
Instant favorites, personally, and I have to agree with people saying it's a must-play 7th gen trilogy.
Carried by outstanding characters that you love and can feel for.
shotgun battles in 1 was everything, especially in gears 1 ultimate, zero lag and no shot delay
I replay the entire series once or twice a year. Phenomenal games.
I grew up playing all the gears with my older brother. He was always marcus, and I was Dom. Gears will always have a special place in my heart
As a younger brother this was well said
Gears of War 1 was so incredible.
I still play through the series with my bro every now and then and it made me realize how much I miss couch coop
