I went to Nashville last moment, Sunday, and was blessed to find a room. The good Lord was watching over me. Plus I found glasses last moment for free. Watched from Gallatin park.
You might not want to be a globetrotter chasing eclipses all over the world, but think about marking your calendar for 2024. The path of that eclipse will take it right through Niagra Falls, which is a pretty great place to visit anyway.
I live in Milwaukie Oregon and we were in the path of totality sort of. We did have to drive to Detroit Lake to be in the total path. We have a van so we just stayed overnight in our van. There were hundreds of people there but it wasn't over crowded which made it fun. We bought our eclipse glasses before going down for $1. Everyone hooped and hollered and the time of totality. I would do it again in a second. We had so much fun and seeing the eclipse again (I was lucky enough to see it when I was 9 in it's totality) was definitely fun!
Imagine being in the Path of Totality area, and still not being able to see it at all. Because clouds n sht. Thanks Kansas. Not even mad tho, it wasn't very life changing, but was cool to see some of it while it lasted. Plus, got to hang out and meet new people.

I wonder if anyone noticed in the timelapse that the city lights turned on by themselves, sensing that there wasn't enough light. I always thought most were controlled by a central timer, but it seems like each had a sensor.

I live in Alabama and while we didn't get the cool total darkness, it was still pretty awesome since we weren't too far from Tennesee like you were. I wish I'd had glasses but they were all sold out by the time I too found out about the eclipse. Not life changing as well, but still very cool.
