    It's only 19/20 where cap issue may be difficult but not impossible. Burke isn't very perceptive.

    These same media creeps will screaming trade if Tavares doesnt deliver a Cup next spring. Lack of stud D-man and top rank goalie means lots of fireworks but no Cup in all likelihood.

    Burke is so envious that this young GM struck gold so quick into his new, long career... Burke is irritating..

      If I remember correctly I believe Burke publicly said that he wanted to trade for the first overall pick in 2009 to draft Tavares, but he's wasn't willing to give up the seventh overall pick (kadri) and Luke schen.

    i think getting rid of nylander would be a huge mistake for the leafs.

    It's been mentioned that obviously part of the pitch to JT was that they had a plan to keep the 3 kids in place since they are the big reason JT is coming in the first place.

    completely irrelevant to this but imagine in the future when technology advances more and we can clone humans and clone all the top 100 nhl players so they can all play against/with each other and we can finally see who's the best lol

      Bwaka 67 because of one signing ?
      Not saying I wouldn’t like to see it or that it isn’t possible but is JT truly capable of that giving how much the islander accomplished. Just asking for honest opinions, as I’m not sure on the subject

    • @Scionofgreyhaven
      @Scionofgreyhaven 6 років тому +1

      DeejBot Nothing is guaranteed but in my humble opinion the Leafs aren't very far behind a team like Washington who just won the cup and they are getting better each year and with this signing, they get an elite #1 center along with Matthews. In the playoffs, the leafs struggled against an experienced and high skilled line of Bergeron, Marchand, Pastrnak, Having Johnny T and the winger depth makes it much harder for teams to play matchups and therefore eases the pressure on Matthews and Kadri's lines. Tavares has proved his entire hockey career from junior to now that he makes players around him better (Moulsen, Okposo, Lee, Bailey etc.) And that he is a clutch player in big moments. If he plays with Marner or Nylander and is healthy I predict anywhere from 80-90+ points next season, His leadership will also be a great asset for the younger leafs. One signing doesn't win you the cup but you could say it helps even the playing field against the true contenders (you could tell the leafs weren't as deep or ready to face Boston or Tampa), this should help them get past the first round or two and if they are lucky even further.

      I hated it when people decided that Vancouver was gonna win Canada a Stanley cup even after shitting on the Nucks all through the regular season. I won't ever be cheering for the Leafs, though I would be happy for their fans if they pulled of the impossible. And frankly, it is nearly impossible, even with the team they have right now. Why do I say that? Because though they are as educated in Hockey as any other Canadian, Leafs fans consistently see one player as being the difference between winning and losing, regardless of the fact that we are taught from day one in hockey "you can't do if all yourself." Then, when that player doesn't gift wrap the regular season and stick Lord Stanley's Cup in their stockings, the fans turn on them. What brings the impossibility into this situation is that the players can *feel* that pressure from outside to be basically perfect, look at Phil Kessel, he is a hell of a hockey player, but you would never know from his time in Toronto. Everything that happened to that team was his fault for like three years, small wonder he was miserable and never performed up to his potential because of it.
      I want to be clear, I'm not attacking you (well that bit at the beginning could be seen as overly directed, my bad). Your points are very sound from a strictly hockey perspective, I just don't think they take into account the pressure cooker that is Leafs Fandom. A pressure cooker that gets a bit hotter every time someone on TSN or SN talks about the Leafs maybe-possibly-definitely winning the cup at the beginning of the year, or even better, calling them a "definite contender" on *free agent day*

    I don’t like investing so much money for one player in a game as violent as hockey. One injury and your franchise could be screwed.

      derick belair you really have no idea what you’re talking about lmao still have 13m in cap left over after the JT signing gardnier and hainsey contracts are coming up which is around 6m and we trade matt Martin who’s 3m on the cap who didn’t play the second half of the season then trade marleau on his final year literally plenty of cap and before you say we have to replace them marlies just won the Calder got plenty of guys coming up

    I still don't understand the Plekanac (sp) deal at the deadline. Did he score 1 goal or 2? Seemed like a waste but its done. That was a Lou signing I suppose so I can let it go.

    • @davfernape
      @davfernape 6 років тому

      He wasn’t meant to be a goal scorer. If you pay attention to the minutes he played, it was mostly pk and dzone draws. Same while he was in Montreal the last 2 seasons.

      Sucks for isles fans but think about it this way. You have barzal, drafted two solid players one d-man and a great goal scorer, with a couple years of lottery picks you will have a young core similar to leafs. Just have to be positive 👍🏻
