  • What's up, guys?! I figured it's time to show you how I record the Line 6 POD HD500x to my computer. In this video I go over using an external audio interface as well as using the internal sound card in the 500x and using it as the audio interface (did you even know that it can do that??).
    I have more videos chock full of tips and tricks with the 500x on my channel. Check em out if you want to be a 500x master!

    Update to what i wrote below. He does it at 6:23. Definitely my preferred method.
    One comment about headphones in the POD at 7:08 - make sure to set monitor as -100 dB to ensure you only hear signal out from PC and not both input and output. Esp. if adding effects in the SW like cab IRs.
    ------------------
    0:28 - do i need an audio interface?
    The answer should be NO - the Line6 products allow you to use the USB for audio recording as well as for control and status. This completely avoids the need for all the extra cables, the audio interface, and is a much purer tone given it is direct digital vs. D to A then A to D again which introduces noise.
    Please try this way. Choose the POD in the recording SW as the input source. Of course, this requires prpper usb drivers for the POD already installed. 🤘🎸

    Hey Jon! I really thanks for your channel which focused on HD500x!
    I got one 2-3 years ago, but never understand with it. I trying to search any video in youtube that time but got nothing like yours man.
    Now I want to build a home recording studio, and plan to sell my HD500x for audio interface. Now you convinced me to not sell it and use it as audio interface instead.
    Sorry for long comments and again, thanks you very much man!

    The XLR method to an audio interface (Scarlett 2i4) used to be how I would record, but for some reason, all of a sudden I literally have no sound through my external speakers through the Scarlett using this method and I have no idea why it happened or how. It was working fine before and now all of a sudden it just quit. Weirdly enough, the headphone input still works and I will always hear audio through that, but any speakers connected through the unbalanced line outputs will have no audio whatsoever. I was hoping this video would give me some answers to my problem, but alas, I’m still stuck. All that aside, this video is amazing and so easy to understand. If I were a first time user and confused on how to go about things, this video would certainly clear a lot of things up.

    Ideally you would want to use the S/PDIF out on the HD500 / HD500X and have an audio interface that has S/PDIF I/O like a 6i6 Focusrite. Then you are saving conversion time and will free up a set of inputs on your audio interface

Since the 500x is intended to simulate or emulate real amps and mics, what level do you/should you set your master volume and amp volume (both on the Hd500x) as well as the gain on your interface? • @JonEleyetGuitar
      @JonEleyetGuitar  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah... latency really sucks. If I'm using my audio interface, I route the computer audio back through it and use a blend knob on the interface to blend in my guitar audio before it runs into the computer (pre-DAW). That way I stay on beat while recording. Then, once I record a part, I drag the WAV file so that it lines up with the beat again. Did I explain that OK??

    • @waynemiller6070
      @waynemiller6070 Рік тому

      I have both. They sound the same BUT I have created programs on the X that give me "over limit' DSP messages on the 500. So Yeah, the expanded memory is a real thing. I was still able to make the program work on the 500 because there were effects in blocks that I wasn't actually using for the program. So by removing the effect it freed up the memory to allow the program to be used. Hope this helps.

      What equipment do you have? An engineer would shake his head the way I use mine. I use 2 computers in my studio. One is online for UA-cam etc. I'm using my HD 500x as the soundcard for that computer. But I run the outputs of the HD 500x which also now has my guitar AND Mic to a Scarlett interface of my other computer that runs my recording software. The Scarlett makes it easy for me to record and mix my online computer, my guitar (and Mic from my HD pedal) and my my playback from my recording DAW. It may be more complicated than it needs to be, but once it's set up, routing is all done without having to patch more cables. It's just "digital" routing.

  • @brettcrock

    3 ways to record.
    1. Easiest is with out the interface.
    Use usb on any pod device to not only record directly in the computer to your recording program, but update the device and upload any effect you could imagine.
    2. Like the video states to do, but the XLR to interface converts it 3 times, where as 1/4 does not.
    Use a noise gate inbetween the pod device and the interface.
    XLR cables are for mics and monitors, but will work. Might create latency.
    3. Plug from guitar directly into the interface. Use the effects on the program.
