That is a really sharp looking Eliminator. Maaco did a great job on that car. And that color blue is awesome. Whoever you paid to apply the decals/pinstripes should be commended for a job well done. Those curved lines on the side of body are still in alignment. I think that black rear deck spoiler really gives it a nice look. That is a sweet ride!
Thank you very much, it turned out incredible, and still more to come. I just did rear mount turbos and I’ll be doing a 408 stroker as soon as parts come in
Maaco paint jobs seriously depend on the manager & crew. I did a '99 F350; 4wd, crew-cab, longbed. Totally stripped it- windows, handles, seals, everything. They did very decent body work, base/clear, and I re-assembled it. Is it perfect? No, but it is very presentable & is holding up after 2+ years of using it hauling pavers, dirt, engines, a trip across the US hauling a 25' long cargo trailer...my "All-in" cost? $5300. My buddies with body shops steered me to the Maaco in Bellevue, WA. My lowest "Cash price" was $9k ballpark
Absolutely, most shops out here are a minimum of 10k. I’ve got kids and drive my car I don’t want to watch a 10k to 15k paint job get messed up or be one of those guys who are always on guard at a car show or meet. I let random people and kids get into my car at shows without a car, it’s inspiring them and giving them the opportunity to have fun.

I had a urethane maaco job done on a black car with peeling clear coat on the hood fro $1000. When i got it back I could still see the spot where the clear peeled when looking at it from certain angles. I learned how to paint cars after that and have painted 2. 1st one was a black 81 firebird formula that turned out great after wetsanding and buffing all the flaws out. 2nd car was a 2 tone 58 chevy turned out even better as i bought a better compressor and improved my skills. wetsanding and buffing is a requirement for any paint job unless you have a booth and perfect conditons
If people would learn they can do a better job because they have more time and if it's YOUR car more pride in your work. Maaco sucks. I paint too and have for the last 40 years. Can't believe what I'm hearing about these crazy prices. It ain't rocket science either. Most paints today can be easily corrected after they set up when you finish shooting it even if you're an amateur. I use the slowest reducer I can so it flows out really nice. Maaco is famous for that uneven surface prep. They don't do any sanding unless paid extra and then it's dubious.
I ran a Maaco years ago. An older guy brought in a pristine, 5 year old Tacoma. I asked him to not have us paint it but he insisted. I had everyone give it their best and while it was an okay job, it still looked better when it came in than when it left. SMH
Your story is the norm for Maaco unfortunately. It's a place where people go that are starting out painting or want to learn to paint. They aren't there to pay for talent. People go there to get experience and move on to make bigger bucks. 30 years ago a friend of mine, who could paint cars too, did all his prep and removal and went to Maaco. They let a high school kid paint it. He was pissed. Like most people that go to Maaco, he was being cheap. I hear people all the time saying Maaco's 'great'. Maybe. Time will tell. Depends on the shop and painter but 95-96% are average. It's a production shop. They run 'em in and run 'em out. Usually 6-8 cars a day. They have to to make money. Scuff, tape, and shoot. They don't take ANYTHING off. That's time and time=money.

Nice car, I live in Vista and have a 2008 Tacoma that I purchased new. The roof is starting to show the clear coat is breaking down and also on the outer fender attachments. I only have 103k miles and it runs great. Most 2nd Gen Tacoma’s driving around SOCAL due to the sun have the clear coat go first due to the sun and UV breaking down the clear coat. Most body shops that I spoke with in Oceanside will not entertain painting a whole vehicle, too much time to prep the vehicle to due it correctly. I will keep my Tacoma for the foreseeable future. My neighbor just had his Mazda pickup painted and he paid 12k. Great job, no orange peel, no over spray. I am contemplating doing the same thing. Like you said, you get what you pay for.
Are you serious $12k to paint a Mazda truck? I had a '98 Mazda black B2500 and took it to Maaco and they quoted $1,900 which seemed like a lot for a 20 year old truck that's worth maybe $2,500.
@@cheftomsd I have seen many, many Maaco paint jobs. It all depends what one is looking for and I believe you get what you pay for. Car looks excellent man!! 👌🏻 Don't listen to any of these haters. Most of them have shitty lives and have never owned a muscle car. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
I worked at a Maaco for about two and a half days, told the management I couldn't do it, I knew people in that city, my reputation would be ruined by the quality of the product they expected me to paint. Everything, bad prep, bad bodywork, is the painter's responsibility.
I completely agree with your choice, when I was a tattoo artist I would refuse what people wanted because I knew they would regret it. At the end of the day it would be my name attached to there stupid idea, great job protecting your name and reputation, people don’t understand how important prep is they think paint covers everything
I learned when I first started painting, the shop owner's Air Force buddies would bring their cars only for me to pull the trigger, but a few complained about their shitty body and prep, like I should have done something. Told the boss no more buddies cars
@@bruceprice8882 That's the problem with those kind of deals being only the 'hired gun' and no control over the final prep. If they can't paint they obviously can't do bodywork or prep either.
How much did you pay? And do you have any idea how much they would charge if I get my 2013 charger painted half black and half white. It’s gonna be length wise from from to back on the half and half
We have a black Mustang GT convertible with no dents that we want painted Fighter Jet Gray. Every shop I called only does insurance work. Would you reccomend Maacos premium paint job? I may ask them if I can buy my own paint and clear, because I don't know if theirs supplies are any good.
I did the urethane paint for an older look. I didn’t want to do the clear coat option. You can already ask what paint supplier that MAACO uses, my local one uses the same pain supplier as the ultra premium shops. Talk to the manager and ask to check out the shop. People forget good business is about communication and customer service. If they won’t take the time then that is not the shop for you. But you have to ask those questions and shop around
Wow I have a 67 and it’s disassembled and you have me thinking. Do you think they would paint the car semi disassembled? i.e. hood and fenders provided to them
I’m sure you can, my local one gets their paint from a reputable pain supply shop that provides paint for the high end shops in the area, you can always ask them where they get the paint from and I’m sure could provide your own however is May void the warranty they offer
11-2022 >> About Maaco.... all shops are privately owned and operated. If you live in a large metro area there are probably 3-4 in your area. Visit them all and get separate quotes. Im on SoCal. the Macco in Costa Mesa is a Ripoff the short muscular guy wanted $3,000 just to strip the old paint and body work off my car, then he would quote on the paint job. I drove to city of Orange, Macco, I paid $3500 COMPLETE.. two stage color sand and buff. I complained to Maaco corporate office about the Costa Mesa shop, they didnt seem to care... So... shop around, move as much trim and chrome as you can yourself.. bumpers, grills, side trim, mirrors, door handles.. anything that will make it easier for the body and paint guys.
Absolutely spot on, it’s all about the owner, shop manager and crew, they mostly do insurance jobs, in and out, more cars more cash but shopping around like you did is the way to go, both for price and quality
Thank you very much sir, check out some of the other videos I have I’m doing a stroker build next. And just did twin rear mount turbos. I have videos of the car prior to paint also
I blasted my down to metal then sanded with 150 then 300, they did everything from there, if you are just doing paint you need to prep everything, remove what you don’t want to be painted, sand and fill any imperfections, other wise pay extra and have them do it. If you just pay for pain that’s all you will get
@@olddirtycougar6401 I've removed everything (glass out) but when I went by they said the prep/sand it. Is that not correct or do they do a crappy job?
I think your spoiler in on backwards dude. The tapered winglets face to the front. You got the whole experience. They paint whatever is there. Not the worst Maaco job I've ever seen, not a bad price for Ca. Bought many cars from pictures and videos. You can NEVER really truly assess the paint from either. Might be just the video but your trunk area on top towards the right looked like it was starting to dull.
my buddy built up his Ford Bronco XL, new V8 , super swamper tires too much to list he took it in for paint & they did the same thing painted all wheel wells.. not overspray full paint all White!! and SH#T hit the fan where law enforcement was called and we were escorted off the property, went to court in the end they just redid wheel wells black turned out to be a shit show
Absolutely, it’s just an assumption but I’ve done quite a few paint removals including Berliner on an entire car, but never one that couldn’t be removed by sanding or aircraft stripper, it was bad, thank you for the comment, if you like follow my other videos I’m doing a rear mount twin turbo and 408 stroker
Haven’t had any issues with the Southern California sun 110 degree summers, I also know the paint shop this MAACO uses for their paint, I’m not worried, thank you though
Honestly I wasn’t sure about it at first I wanted to go white but once I pulled of panels and saw it was originally grabber blue I went with it. Once the stripes went on with the black accents I thought it looked pretty good. Have as good holiday boats
It looks decent enough. But if you took so much timing on preparing and it seems you really like that car why would you take it to maaco? And you say it only has 1 year in half and you seem to be amazed! A good material paint job will last 10+years . Everyone seems to be uploading videos on UA-cam about Maaco and if you really look at all of them there all cars painted decently with poor material quality Maaco uses a single stage paint job wich means there’s no clear there’s no mirror shine no matter how much you buff or shine . My advice is Maaco is like a bandaid so metal won’t rust it won’t be pretty but it works but if you want that brand new off the car dealer look take your to a professional don’t waist time with Maaco
I do like the car very much, but I wanted the paint to be like 50 years ago I had the option for clear but decided on this one. The paint they use is quality from a local paint shop, painting is easy, body work and prep is hard and what matters. Taking it down to metal and doing the work good primer and a double shot of paint that will allow me to cut and buff, I personally don’t see a point on paying 10k (my quote for just paint from another shop) to pull a trigger. I think this paint will last a long time (hopefully) but it’s a daily driver not a show car to make a long story short. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Maaco does have clear coat 2 stage euerathane paint options on thier cars for about 1500 so not sure where youve hear its only singlestage and how do you know until you try it

Painting a ’70 Mercury Cougar orange with house paint was very disrespectful. When you had it repainted blue, I hope you didn’t forget to paint the door jambs which would’ve still been orange, instead of the color shown. MAACO rushed your paint job in order to meet their quota, which is a certain number of vehicles done in a day. Next time, let Earl Schieb hook you up with their professional work, especially after they purchased a rotisserie. I thought a rotisserie is supposed to turn meat --- not cars. My knowledge of auto painting --- just never too old to learn. Put a high volume, low pressure spray gun in my hand --- not a paint brush. In any case, it’s still a Ford, no matter what color it is.

What's the color name ...It looks beautiful ❤️ ... I will get the same color on my truck
Grabber blue it’s on their paint chart they mixed mine to match the original ford J code paint from 1970
@@olddirtycougar6401 wow I want the same color on my 2014 mustang
Looks great for less than 3 Grand.
Still looks great!
Thank you very much
How much did you pay? And do you have any idea how much they would charge if I get my 2013 charger painted half black and half white. It’s gonna be length wise from from to back on the half and half
Wow, looks great!
Thank you very much
We have a black Mustang GT convertible with no dents that we want painted Fighter Jet Gray.
@@olddirtycougar6401 I will definitely do what you suggested.
Great video and apparently I am your 500th "like" on the video.
That's a nice car I'm a Ford guy.
Absolutely love that color is that the grabber blue?
Yes it’s a J code, grabber blue.
amazing cat what size tires are you running?
15x7 wheels
235/60r15 front 255/60r15 rear
Maaco painted my Escalade I am pleased
Wow I have a 67 and it’s disassembled and you have me thinking. Do you think they would paint the car semi disassembled? i.e. hood and fenders provided to them
Yes that’s how I provided my car, check out my older videos I took everything off
I've always wondered if you could bring in your own paint and clear and have them shoot it. Maybe it depends by shop?
I’m sure you can, my local one gets their paint from a reputable pain supply shop that provides paint for the high end shops in the area, you can always ask them where they get the paint from and I’m sure could provide your own however is May void the warranty they offer
@@olddirtycougar6401 I'm SURE it would void their warranty. It's a weasel clause. They'll point to the paint and say 'it's YOUR paint!'
That’s one nice car. I had a 68 xr7.
Thank you very much, I have wanted one since I was a kid, my family loves is and hopefully my kids will get it one day

You should have taken it to Earl Scheib. $29.95 paints any car.
Ah the good old days lol
🤣🤣🤣
Yup, Earl Scheib's Diamond Gloss Enamel.
It used to be 19.95 when Earl started.
I took two of mine there back in the 1970s and never had a problem with fading, peeling, bubbling, etc. They did a good job.
Fabulous.
Thank you very much sir, check out some of the other videos I have I’m doing a stroker build next. And just did twin rear mount turbos. I have videos of the car prior to paint also
Beautiful car
Thank you so much
Beautiful car....
Was this painted with single stage paint or base/clear?
Single stage, I wanted it to look more like an original 1970s paint job
And such a nice car was...
How well do you feel the sand/prep it?
I blasted my down to metal then sanded with 150 then 300, they did everything from there, if you are just doing paint you need to prep everything, remove what you don’t want to be painted, sand and fill any imperfections, other wise pay extra and have them do it. If you just pay for pain that’s all you will get
@@olddirtycougar6401 I've removed everything (glass out) but when I went by they said the prep/sand it. Is that not correct or do they do a crappy job?
Pretty kitty😺
Thank you, check out some of my new videos I’m installing a twin rear mount turbo
It’s not on backwards thank you though, I’m very happy with the paint job haven’t seen any issues with it, yeah video is a little hard to capture it
How much $$$?
For what?
@@olddirtycougar6401 How much for the paint job and bodywork? Missed the itemized list. Was pouring coffee while I watched it and didn't catch it.
my buddy built up his Ford Bronco XL, new V8 , super swamper tires too much to list he took it in for paint & they did the same thing painted all wheel wells.. not overspray full paint all White!! and SH#T hit the fan where law enforcement was called and we were escorted off the property, went to court in the end they just redid wheel wells black turned out to be a shit show
Painting that car with house paint was a crime against humanity.
Looks good, except for the tires.
Don't leave it in the sun. Paint is OK garaged; it will fade BADLY in the sun
Haven’t had any issues with the Southern California sun 110 degree summers, I also know the paint shop this MAACO uses for their paint, I’m not worried, thank you though
F*cking Grabber Blue! Not sure why I hate it but I always have.

You know how maaco stop the windows from getting painted, they roll them down.do not pressure wash the car! you're thank me later
Cool
where are any earl schieb shops? i thought they went out of business. they did EXCELLENT paint jobs in the 60's.

So maaco glues in a piece of metal in the quratet instead of "fabricating a piece" and welding it in. Sounds like you got a maaco paint job and its no better than the rivet job.
oh no better not get Maaco
