    Nice comparison.

    Also you can easily change the sweep of the treadle by sliding back the (whatever holds the 'claw' against the cog of the pot) ie the rotation of the pot's cog is greater than what the treadle allows so theres a further 10% approx. But of course what you add to the treble reduces the bassy end, so its upto preference.

    I've been playing, repairing, modding and building amps and effects for 50 years.
    Love Jimi!
    Oddly, I have never owned a Vox wah but had ordered one just before coming here.
    Vox, every time.
    I guessed the Vox correctly and with conviction every time.
    Regarding the Voodoo Child intro....... I've listened to this obsessively for decades and there is a certain subtle something in the way the tone "turns over" that I've never managed to replicate with various makes of Wah.
    I can definitely hear that elusive Voodoo tone in the Vox here.
    - which is remarkable because live even Jimi did not often get it exactly and occasionally was not even close LOL.

      Yep. The vox definitely has a sharp end of the sweep that has a nice character, but gets unusable with higher gain. the cry baby doesn’t have this sharp edge which is actually why crybaby wahs are big with shredders and and vox wahs are big with blues players.

    Thanks for the very useful demo. I own a Vox and have several pictures of Jimi Hendrix playing on one, although the innards at that point were probably different. Much to my chagrin, I A) got all 3 right and B) preferred the Hendrix pedal. The Vox sounded thinner throughout the spectrum. Also, the Hendrix pedal had an almost Octavian harmony at the top during the 3rd comparison. The thin sound that I perceive when playing is what caused me to listen to your comparison and you hit it right on the head. I came to the right place! I'd better subscribe.

      It actually hasn't started to do its WAH sound yet.
      It ACTUALLY requires the rest of the set of pedals to activate the WAH sound.
      At the moment it's just acting like an adjustable tone pot.

      @@Gma7788 No problem hearing the wah here. Maybe there's a problem with your play back system. It's just a wah, and yes it can make a nifty tone control but it does wah.

      Sounds thin because for vintage voiced pedals to shine they need to go into a cranked amp (or an emulation of one)

    I think it’s way cooler to have a pedal like Jimi than having a signature pedal „from“ him

    Vox stood out. Very good rendition of VDchild (slight return). You may need to change the Vox pot down track sooner than later but its made in usa so who knows. I had a Dunlop pot put in mine (V847-A china) within a year from new and no probs ie nice n quiet, since.

    I bought the first reissue Vox wah back in the early 90s. I used it tons but I never felt like it sounded like the recordings I listened to of SRV or Jimi. It seemed to lack treble. When I got a Teese picture wah, it sounded fantastic, the way I had always wanted a wah to sound like. I also found that Dunlop pedals never sounded authentic nor accurate.

    • @Gma7788
      @Gma7788 Рік тому

      GUESS WHY.
      Dude, every dunlop WAH pedal actually requires the dunlop rotovibe pedal at the end of the signal path.
      The jimi Hendrix brand requires 1 dunlop pedal at the end to link that brand to the dunlop brand.
      The JH pedals require each other to activate the official sounds.
      By themselves they DON'T WORK.
      THE JH set of pedals don't work until you also plug in the dunlop rotovibe pedal at the end of the signal path.
      Do you understand that?

      Also what amp/ speakers did you run the dunlop through?

    • @mysteryjesus
      @mysteryjesus 3 місяці тому

      @@KevinCoblerOfficial Because I don't like how they sound and I first tried them around 1991. They don't sound like what Jimi Hendrix used nor do they sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan. They sound like pale imitations which is what they are. So what if you have to hook them together? I have a Teese wah, a Captain Coconut pedal by Foxroxx, and I got the real sound. The rest is garbage.

    The Vox wah sounds more like the "Jimi Hendrix Signature Wah Sound", go figure. He used a VOX wah to begin with, so it’s no suprise that the VOX wah sounds more like his sound. Towards the end of his career, Jimi had his wah modified to sound deeper and not have so much high-end, which is what they basically did with the Signature Wah. I use a Crybaby Classic. It has a fasal inductor, which gives you that classic VOX wah sound. And after hearing the sound clip, I feel the VOX wah sounds better than the Crybaby Classic. I like the Fulltone CLYDE Deluxe Wah. I like the buffer switch, which fixes that problem when putting a Fuzz after a wah. And by problem I mean when you use the wah while the fuzz is engaged. You can barley hear the sweep of the wah, but the buffer switch fixes that.

    • @Gma7788
      @Gma7788 Рік тому

      Wrong.
      The Jimi Hendrix wah pedal actually requires the rest of the set to be plugged in before it actually starts to work.
      The Jimi Hendrix brand requires 1 dunlop pedal to activate the sound as well.
      You must plug in ALL the set plus the rotovibe pedal to activate the jimi Hendrix sounds.

    Dude, you DO realise that jimi Hendrix is a BRAND now, not just an artist.
    This JH pedal doesn't work until you plug in the whole SET of JH BRAND products.
    It isn't doing its wah sound yet.
    VOX is tuned electrically to only work with VOX guitars and amplifiers.
    The JH pedals ARE electrically exclusive and don't do what they're supposed to do if you're missing the rest of the set.

    • @thesmartway693
      @thesmartway693  Рік тому +1

      I’m not sure I agree with that to be honest. I can’t see that they would assume that nobody could get the full appreciation of the JH pedal without having to shell out for the whole setup. As for Vox only working with their brand of guitar?? With all due respect I think you are way off there. I can understand the full JH setup could enhance that Wah but it would and should work as a standalone Wah pedal too.

    • @aldonapolitano5979
      @aldonapolitano5979 Рік тому +1

      Dude, you DO realize that the video was a side by side comparison of 2 wah pedals, don't you, and not a signal chain demo for obtaining the "ultimate Hendrix sound", brand or not? Way too much of that around. It accomplished that.
      They're not even manufactured by Vox, neither were they ever. The ancillary signal chain products aren't available anymore.
      Not sure what you're about here, other than revealing your superior knowledge of all things Hendrixian and/or Vox but I am sure, Dude, that you're loving being just a bit condescending.
